I am conscious that this is a public forum and do not want to prejudice any future actions by being too specific about make and model - it's not relevant to the question anyway.
A car belonging to a member of my family was involved in a minor damage-only accident requiring it to be repaired at the other driver's insurance company's expense. The bodyshop specified was not a marque specific company so it was decided that it should go to a main dealer's bodyshop instead. The repairs, involving cooling system draining, were carried out and the car returned a day before the owner was due to travel to the continent on holiday in the car.... Read more
The oil level warning lights did not show an oil shortage and I agree that cam and followers are minor comparatively despite there being 24 followers at £22 per piece. The big end bearings will be examined before it leaves the workshop. I do not believe that the coolant fluid was as low for most of the trip as it was on arrival back; it probably was being driven out over a long period. The bodyshop now says they did not drain the cooling system although their estimate document says they would. Apparently the estimate is a worse case forecast so that they don't have to go back to the insurers with cap in hand for more money. In fact the damage was more minor than it might have been once they'd dropped the front apron off and rad removal was unneccessary. This is borne out by the parts listing on the invoice showing no anti-freeze charge. If this is indeed the case then they are not implicated unless the rad was damaged by the accident and they didn't spot it. Facts, accurate ones, are hard to come by it would appear... Thanks for your interest; I'll update as I learn more but this now probably deserves to be in 'Technical Matters'
Hi, I have a year 2000 Mk2 Ford Mondeo with a brake problem.
Firstly, I have upgraded to 300mm discs that were standard on Mk3 Mondeos, and Mk3 front calipers. I know these aren't standard parts but I don't believe in any way that this is the cause of my problems.... Read more

Have you disturbed the engine earth lead?
To test try connecting a single jump lead between the battery negative and a secure bit of metalwork on the engine.
Is my (albeit sad) observation correct that most new cars are now fitted with 4 tail lights presumably to ensure that should one bulb blow there will be at least 2 working bulbs to keep the vehicle legal after dark?
If this is the case, then I wish the same back-up could apply to headlights - FiL had to get the dealer to replace the headlights on his Scenic which involved removing the front bumper and £75 from his wallet! At least he had the good sense to have both headlights changed at once. Read more
I likw some of the Renault designs and stle but its stories like the £75 headlamp bulb renewal that keeps me from buying one. Bulbs should be easily changeable by the owner but have to admit my swmbo's V70 is a real problem with some of the tailbulbs.
b***** amazing rider. Would have certainly been a future world champion. Rode his bike to the limit and often beyond. Didn't care who he annoyed on his journey to get to the front.
Moto GP has lost one of its future stars and a character that the Stoners and Pedrosas of this world just don't understand.
I'm certainly not going to search You Tube looking for the crash; I want to remember you for the way you rode when you were alive rather that to watch you riding to your death.
RIP Marco. My thoughts are with your family and friends.

Marco was a future world champion, a thrilling rider and MotoGP won't be the same without him.
He and Rossi were good friends and Colin Edwards is an all round good guy so they will of course, be going through all the 'what if's'....
Hi guys,
I need help, I drive a 2010 Audi A3 1.4TSI (92kw - Petrol), the car is now 15 months old with 26 000km on the clock. Up to 23 000km - no issues, but then the car started to accelerate in a jerking motion, would lose power and sometime, I wouldn't even be able to get it to 120km/h on a level road. Went to Audi several times, after changing everything but the turbo, they finally resorted to do that. I had the car back for a week and everything was fine.... Read more
Hi all, Just a quick question about my 307. Just recently its been struggling to start. The best way I can describe the symptoms is it turns over a few times as normal, then "half starts" for anything up to 5 seconds then it starts. When it "half starts" the cranking picks up pace but if I release the key the engine will stop. It is a bit like there is some ignition but not enough to start the engine. Sometimes the car will start pretty much straight away as it should.... Read more
I understand that VAG changed from Pump Deuse to Common Rail systems in 2008. Then Common Rail 2 came out in 2009. Does anyone know the difference between the 2 Common Rail systems and when each was introduced? Thank you. Read more

I have a friend who is 6ft 7 and he currently drives a 57-plate Honda Civic with no problems. He's had a Vectra and a Volvo S60 as well, both of which he fitted in with no issues. His wife is 6ft and she drives a Fiesta. I feel like a midget when I'm round for tea at their house....
