Hi all, I am a newbie to SAAB, (just bought one) and was wondering whether anybody knew if the factory where they are made has something to do with reliability. Not sure If they are made only in Sweden but would a Swedish built SAAB be less prone to failures compared to perhaps other factories? I noticed that there seem to be mixed feelings regarding reliability. Read more

This is an incredible achievement. He bought it with 76,000 miles on the clock. I've heard of a guy who did 1,000,000 miles in a Saab who was rewarded by Saab with his choice of any model. He went for a very well specced 9-5 estate.... Read more
I went to Morocco - all the taxi drivers are driving them!
Hello,
I've seen a BMW 330d on a y reg estate 96000 full main dealer history and just had a full service and checked over by an independent BMW specialist. I've read the reviews by HJ which don't read well. Can anyone advise if I'm wasting my time buying it its up for £4000 grand but is in excellent condition. Any help please Read more
I know someone with a 320D. He's had it from new. It's now done 170,000 miles. £150 for interim and £200 for main service at the supplying dealer. Engine shot by swirl flap failure at years old, but BMW stumped up the cost for a new engine.

We're looking to replace our excellent but now 5 year old Honda Accord Tourer and have just seen an Audi A6 TDIe Avant multitronic with our local Audi dealer at £25,495. At about £7,000 less than list this looks to be a great deal so what's the catch?
Its registration date is late Sept 2011 so it's a 61 plate with delivery mileage. Should I rip his arm off or are there better deals out there? Read more
Thanks for the tip, Chrish79. All is good so far, great round town and very smooth and comfortable on the M1. Weird not being able to enter a full UK postcode on the sat-nav but otherwise the media interface is pretty good!
@bustercambelt... What's your complaint with VAG and what's not to like about the A6 (over and above relatively minor details)?...
The speedomoter has packed up I am rrying to get it repaired, but no one can find out the problem, also now the CD player has also packed up.
It is owned by my friend who is a single mother and is afraid of getting ripped of as she knows nothing about cars - can anyone help.... Read more

"DO people become the car they buy... or do they buy that sort of car because they are that sort of person?
I'm wary of saying: 'That's a boy car and that's a girl's.' You don't drive with your genitals. There are only two types of person. Those that like cars and those that don't.
But I'll make two points. Are BMW drivers aggressive? And are Volvo drivers blind?... Read more
My good mate drives a new Mercedes buys one every 2 years "because he's a solicitor" and he thinks it's what is expected of him because he earns a few quid.
He lives in these new flats and pays RENT!!...
I'm looking for a small, cheap, automatic car. On Autotrader locally there are quite a few late '90s Micras and a few Daihatsu Sirions (I'm discounting the Corsas, Clios and Puntos) Checking the car by car breakdowns, I was surprised by the negatives on the Micras, I thought they would good reliable little cars. With the Sirion, I'm worried about it breaking and no one knowing how to fix it as I don't have a tame mechanic I can call on to help. In both cases, the late 90's automatics aren't covered. I know that cheap means I shouldn't go for a specific model but I thought I would be safest with a Micra, am I wrong? I don't have any experience with Autos so I'm not even sure what I need to check when buying one.... Read more
Thanks for the further comments but a deal has been done on a 98 Micra 1.3 gx auto.

Hi,
Hi, having problems with the window smearing when using the wipers.... Read more
This is one of the most difficult things to solve - but I have cracked it. Here is the regime I used.
1- Clean the glass VERY CAREFULLY with HG Stove Glass Cleaner. This will remove a great deal of the ingrained dirt. Use a soft cloth to rub in, wearing gloves, then rinse copiously with gallons of water. This stuff must NOT get anywhere near your paint work.
2 - buy some TurtleWax Clearvue Glass Polish, and Provision Glass Scrub. Invest in a 150mm compound pad, and attach it to either a machine polisher or an orbital sander. Apply the Glass Scrub first to a wet screen as per the instructions, but utilising the compound pad and machine assistance. give it several passes, vertically, horizontally and diagonally. Then rinse copiously.
3- repeat, this time using the Clearvue Polish. Again, rinse copiously.
4- finish off with Nilglas glass cleaner, and blue paper towel roll.
5 - fit new wiper blades.
This has finally stopped the smearing which was beyond annoying. An hours work but well worth it.
and the one headlight brigade are already out in force.
Last night on my way home (A12) I pulled out in frot of a 60 plate 1 series BM and all he had on were two weedy little sidelights. Black car too. He was nearly invisible! Not too tragic as the 1 series is a bit fugly isn't it.... Read more
"But please people go to Halfruds buy a £5 bulb and the nice man will even fit it for you..there is no excuse!"
Sadly a lot of modern cars require either three hands or multijointed slim fingers to fit a bulb or even worse the front bumper needs to come off. Not something you want Halfords attempting. Better try the main dealer who will have done it so many times they will know the tricks to fitting the bulb. ...

Aren't they basically Vauxhall Vectras with a Fiat engine? My Dad has one of the 1970's made SAABs for 18 years and 300k mileage with no problems and was still able to sell it on. Was bullet-proof and probably still going somewhere. I met a guy from Sweden once and he said that Swedes lost all their repsect for SAAB as a quality car manufacturer after the GM takeover.
