About 13 months ago now I pulled in to a taxi rank to let someone out of the car (a bit naughty I know). I stopped about 8 feet behind a taxi that was parked there. The taxi driver then got out of his minibus and started accusing me of hitting his car, despite the fact that there was no damage. The driver was a very large and intimidating man who was getting very angry, so I decided for the safety of me and my passenger, we would leave and report him to the police. I some later got an letter of intention to procecute on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving, once I had spoken to the police and linked the incident to the call I had made, all charges were dropped on the basis of there being no evidence of anything happening. He also tried to claim on my insurance, but after eight months with him presenting no wittness or evidence of damage my insurance company informed me the claim had been closed. However about a month after this, nine months after the incident, the taxi driver suddenly found a witness and the case was reopened. My insurance are now saying that they don't believe that there is much prospect of my sucess in court and they intend to settle against me out of court (my insurance company still can't tell me what damage he is claiming for). It seems that there is nothing I can do to defend myself despite there is what I would call a reasonable doubt that an incident ever occured. Is there anything I can do, or is it possible for people to claim that anyone they see driving past has crashed into them, providing they throw someone a few quid to be a witness for them? I probably should mention that I did have an actual accident, were a learner driver pulled out at a junction, then stopped in the middle of the road with me running in to the back of them - a claim that I admitted liability for and was settled by my insurance company. This meant that when the incident with the taxi driver occured, I had damage to the front of my car - some thing I suspect he saw as an opportunity.

I've a new shape VW Polo that has alloys and a steel wheel as a spare. There are no extra bolts for the steel wheel.
I've bought a set of 4 winter tyres on steel wheels from mytyres. The steel wheels looks similar where the bolts go so am I right to assume that the alloy bolts will work with the steel wheels? Read more
So long as the bolt seats are correct you're in business LL, enjoy your winter grip.
Many thanks for the most important post, the update, too few bother.
We have a 2nd hand Ford Focus Xetex LX X Reg 2000 and just recently we have been experiencing the problem as set out below:
Driving along, suddenly the speedguage drops to zero and sometimes even cuts out, the lights all come on like a christmas tree, sometimes a loss of power can be felt.... Read more
Now that is what actually really drove my anger levels through the roof in the Ford Dealership.
I allowed them to change the dash cluster, but guess what happened? Was driving down a hill near Kendal, Audi 4x4 right behind, speed dropped to zero and cut out 3 times within the space of a mile, quick reactions and thinking I got the car fired up each time before nursing it to the Dealership.
The service manager couldn't even look me in the eye when I stated what had happened, but his own words 'must be the speed sensor then'
My reply back was 'THATS WHAT I SAID IN THE FIRST PLACE'
Agitated is not the word, but oddly enough, since then, we've numerous issues and problems with the car. It's cost a mini fortune now, so we're looking to part ex this year
In January 2010 I had a new water pump fitted to the car at a final cost of £320. This week according to the garage my water pump has gone again.
They are the original garage who did the repair in 2010, they are getting on to ford as the car has only done 15000 since the original part was fitted, the 10 month warranty has run out and the garage feel that ford should offer a goodwill gesture.... Read more
Hi Steve, sorry to hear about your misfortune.
I can't offer any advice I'm afraid as I don't know the legalities, but surely there is someone out there who KNOWS (as opposed to an opinion) about how long new parts are supposed to last under Sale Of Goods....
Recently I posted about cars getting bigger because drivers are getting bigger. Obviously safety features and items like electric windows and door mirrors are the main reason. What puzzles me it that people who lay out car parks still seem to think we drive the same cars as fifty years ago. In the last two years two car parks I use regularly have been resurfaced and yet despite having to re-paint the lines the layout of both has remained the same. The only change was that in one there are some additional disabled bays. Obviously by making the spaces wider you would lose a number of spaces. Is it greed overcoming common sense? I suspect so. Has anybody seen a car park that has had the spaces actually widened? Read more
When i had the new 3 door Fiesta for a weekend recently i found the front doors to be massive, like on a Coupe and you need a good parking space!
This comes from Steve Wade's www.inside.saab.com site. He was the man who ran the saabunited site which was instrumental in much of the support Saab had, and Victor Muller had when the company was saved from GM.
'We have the biggest product portfolio we’ve ever had, with cars that are going to meet the marketplace better than ever, and more new product on the way very soon. Some of the technical innovations we’ve got coming are very, very exciting indeed. Some will be firsts for Saab and some will be world firsts. I’m so very happy that Saab fans will get the chance to see them.'... Read more
You've missed out on their engines-Triumph,Vauxhall and Ford-even the two-stroke was a DKW copy.
This is without trawling round main dealers or even having to talk to anyone.

Hi a friend of mine tried to use his remote fob but it won't open the car (nb he's over 200 miles away so the info I'm getting is via txt's). Sounds like the battery for the fob needs replacing.
Surely he should be able to open the car with the ignition or door lock key? Is this likely to set the alarm off or if he has one fitted, trip the immobiliser?... Read more
I have an 08 reg diesel Renault and would like to buy a 59 or 10 reg to replace it possibly with a Kia Ceed SW but........I don't want one fitted with a particulate filter as my motoring wouldn't keep it clean enough.
So my question is is there a date when all diesels were fitted with a filter or is it a case of asking every time?... Read more
Have a Ceed 1.6 CRDi SW, great car. Only cars imported into the UK from September 2010 onwards had a dpf fitted, ours was one of the first. If you get a car registered prior to 09/10 you will not have a dpf fitted.
Agree with last post regarding problems with cats and how they were soon sorted but it may be more difficult with dpf's since they do need a good run to regenerate. The Ceed is used probably 70% on m/ways and 30% in town and it does a regen every 300 miles approx, no drama, just idles a bit rough and smells a bit if you have the window open or get out shortly after its finished. Regen takes about 15 miles or so. The so called "Italian tune up" does not work despite what the urban myths say, the soot gets bonded to the dpf and cannot be blown out....
Hello clonedagain, unusual for legal cover not to include this situation, you are disputing a claim afetr all. If they still won't play ball try the legal cover on your household insurance policy. This usually covers you for public liability and may be effective.
Also try the local authority and their taxi licencing office. If a taxi has been damaged, no matter how slightly it has to report this and catalogue the damage to assess roadworthyness. If he has not done this, bingo, you have hit the jackpot. Especially if he has no record of repairs. A bit late for advice, but always carry a camera and take pictures, this will put off the most blantant scammer....
