okay so iv been driving since i bought my first car on my 17th birthday 10/10/2007. so i took out my own insurance as a provisional driver and had lessons. i passed exactly a year later, just intime to renew my policy , all fine all correct , now a full licensed driver. but search for best car insurance using comparison sites. which dont take that first year of drving into account due to being provisional so when id get my quote id have to 'fiddle' m,y date of birth, then call my insurer give them the quote number and say 'by the way had to change my dob blah blah blah' fine again . anyway stayed with the same insurer ( a femanist one :p) until this year while im at uni my car stays at homekeeping out of trouble. so i renewed my insurance..once again using the comparison site and my 'fiddle' stratergy..then calling the insurer with the quote and explaining..that my dob is 10/10/90, NOT 10/10/89.. which the lady on the phone said she could ammend along with my email address.. so my policy arrived and got put in a drawer by my mom safe and away. i went home recently and drove my car with my bf in and we crashed. the other driver admitted fault. the police said that too. it was horrible i went home and pulled out my policy and rang my insurer in quite a daze and still in shock. it was a bad crash. smal car vs landrover. so my car is now with salvage men. they said all would be sorted soon and they would contact me further. now im out of shock iv read my policy and my DOB is wrong. its reading 10/10/89 !! what do i do now! I am sure that from an insurance perspective your driving experience on a provisional licence does not count thus when they ask how long you have held a license they mean a full licence. Normally they ask when you passed your test, certain that is what they always ask me and the Mrs.

Why you would want to change details like you have done is a little beyond me, hope it works out for you.

I was involved in a crash last week, at the time of taking out the insurance I didn't tell them about 6 points that I had for speeding. The evidence from the internet seems to think that they have access to a database of everyones driving licence which they consult after the accident but not before the insurance is taken out.

How can they look at what I have on my licence without my permission?I rented a car over the last couple of days and the car hire company had to phone up the DVLA , tell them who they were and then pass me over, I then was asked was it OK for them to divulge what if any convictions I had on my license. I replied OK then handed the phone back to the car hire guy who was told the state of play.... Read more

Today when i pulled up at a level crossing, i turned the engine off and when the trains had passed, i tried to start the engine back up but it wouldnt fire. It just kept cranking and wouldnt fire. The orange spanner light was flashing and the pedal test showed P1614 error which i believe is to do with the key immobiliser? I hit the dials a few times and after about 5 minutes, the car started fine again and went. Then when i tried to start it again later, it was fine. Does anyone know what this is because i really dont want to get to the car one morning when i really need it and find it wont start? I hope its just the key and not the whole ECU :( Read more

"It is possible the immobiliser signal was just being 'swamped' by interference from the train or the signalling equipment."

I agree - it's happened twice to our Zafira when parked near something giving off strong signal, like a mobile 'phone mast....

I'd guess it was the vacuum attached to the variable vane actuator.

No vane movement = little or no boost as the vanes will 'fail safe' in the bypass position, directing most of the exhaust gases away from the turbine....

I have recently had my 2 front coil springs and 2 track ends done on my car on monday just gone and when I got the car home noticed gearbox oil leaking onto the floor, I took it back to the garage and it appeared to be leaking from the driveshaft oil seal this was subsequently replaced and the leak continued. This leak was not present before the trackrod ends were replaced in my view I think the garage have been too heavy handed and broke a seal on the gearbox as there is absolutely no oil leaking from the driveshaft oil seals what soever. The garage does not seem to want to take responsibility for this and I am wondering wheher they have damaged the seal or if im just been paranoid? has anyone ever experineced this problem at all and is it possible that it is the garages fault? if anyone can help please let me no asap as i am at my wits end.

If the oil leak is on the nearside it could be that the drive shaft has not fully entered the diff, it should snap into position. See if you can move the shaft in and out, if so drive it in either by hitting the inner joint with a soft hammer or clamping mole grips round the shaft and hitting them.
