Hi,

My car was involved in an accident about 3 weeks ago. In summary, my car (Nissan 350Z 3.5l V6) was parked along a street next to a Showhome we were viewing at the time. The guy living across the street reversed and hit my driver side door. Fortunately he drop by and spoke with the sale advisor regarding the damage he caused. I got his details and he admitted liability, also got details of the sale advisor as a witness in case.

I advised my insurer (Esure) and eventually was passed to their non-fault handlers (Helphire). Helphire got in touch next day and advised they would handle the full claim - arrange repairers, no excess, replacement car, sort out costs, claim from the third party etc. In an unlikely event they couldn’t recover costs back a separate insurance policy would be used for this situation; So that no costs would every come back to me.....as explained

By the following week, parts were in order via the bodyshop after assessing damage.
That same week Helphire advised that the third party had admitted liability on the incident.... Read more

Welcome to the forum, hy288. And many thanks, Ifithelps, for taking the time and trouble to provide the advice.

Despite using it regularly throughout the year, my Fiesta's air con has finally started smelling a bit farmy. I've used a propriety aerosol cleaner/disinfectant of the type discharged in the footwell, which has helped but not eliminated the problem. I'm considering spraying another of these directly onto the evaporator matrix. I'm assuming that this is immediately below the panel beneath the heater control valve. Before I struggle to remove those four srews, can anyone confirm that the matrix is easily squitable with an aerosol without disconnecting anyone else?

Thanks. Read more

Can I ask peoples opinions if this is safe or not? I know your not meant to mix summer and winter tyres... Read more

There is a school of thought here that the tyres with the most tread should be on the back anyway so you would need two more winter tyres with full tread to go on the rear.

Mr B has just had his back brake discs and pads replaced (he grudgingly paid up as he wouldn't have passed his MOT; the fanbelt was cack too but that's another story)

He is now concerned that, when he rolls to a stop without touching the brakes, he is stopping earlier than he should do and there's a graunching noise from the back brakes. He feels it's the brakes touching the wheel, but neither of us can see it, on either wheel. Obviously they'll expand when hot, but I don't reckon that'd do it.... Read more

Hi

My first post and it's asking for advice, apologies.

I was in an accident on the motorway the other day, at the top of a slip road I was waiting to leave the motorway when a car drove int the rear of my vehicle. Due to it's age and value, I'm sure my car is a write off.

At the place the recovery truck took us, they told us our accident company had referred the matter to a third party as it was clearly the other parties responsibility. When I checked with my insurance company, they denied this and I asked what to do. They said it was up to me.

I chose to call the third party company back and cancel them being involved as I had been lied to or mislead and then called my insurer and went through all the information to make a claim.

Now, I don't know if I have done the right thing. I'm worried about losing my no claims discount, my excess, I clearly was not at fault. I'm now without a vehicle and my insurer may provide a courtesy car but only for two weeks.

Am I doing the right thing? Should I contact an accident management company which I am told many insurers recomend, or is it to late to do so? Any advice
would be appreciated! Read more

I'm planning to sell my BMW. It is in very good condition with no damage, 90K miles, MoT to May 2012, petrol, manual, and FSH. The car is Topaz Blue with cream leather, and with the SE spec. What's it worth selling privately? Read more

I am thinking of Adding a boot light to my mk4 polo.

Anybody any tips? I'm finding it hard to find any diy kits. Read more

If boot lights were fitted to some VW Polos your best bet might be to try the local scrapyard. You should be able to source all the bits you need and see where and how they fit. Don't limit your search to Polos as other VAG models might use the same light.

I had a test drive in a new Picanto auto when we were looking for a car for my wife. As HJ mentions in his review the power steering was very stiff at speed. Presumably that's a quality control issue with the early cars. Otherwise I thought it was a good little car. In the end we went for a Fiat 500 which my wife had fallen in love with...

My Volvo V70 diesel was hit from behind in a traffic queue and although the bodywork is now fine there are several issues on which I would like opinions. The fuel flap was jammed solid and on release has just flapped around...aptly named. Rear seat mechanism stuck and one reat seatbelt won't move and the other won't tension. Oddly the idle speed is now fast too. The rear tailgate was replaced and several rear end items like the bumper too so it was a fair old smash. The car was mot tested and serviced recently and none of the faults listed were present but I have to attribute them to the accident or pay out myself. If I was trying to con the insurance I would have screamed whiplash and got the ambulance chasers on it

The repairer did a good job on the body but the minor issues like the flap drive you to distraction.Yyou get the feeling they think you are trying it on. Maybe getting cars out quickly increases revenue and sorting the minor bits is not cost effective.
