I've just had the newal amount from the AA. I've looked on a few comparison sites but not found anything much better. However, when I went on the AA site I've had a quote, which is 25% less than the renewal quote!

It's now fully restored but needs more oomph- I'd like something with more go. I don't care about 0-60 mph in silly seconds. I am going to work from this van so I'd like it to cruise confortably at 70 mph.

Wasn't the HY the large "corrugated-iron" van?
With alot of talk around rising premiums i thought this could be an interesting topic. Let us know how much you pay per year, what the car is and any other information if you feel comfortable sharing, age, area of the country etc :) Read more
If even i can work it out you'd think insurers would be hot on it already.
There are two BHP outputs - 95 and 120. Does anyone know if there's a significant difference in power, insurance and fuel consumption? It would regularly have a payload of 800kg
Thanks in advance. Read more
I'm no expert on vans but provided that you can verify that the services were properly carried out, that's not an unreasonable annual mileage for a van. Get a good test drive in it: walk away if the seller won't let you.
The more powerful version will of course be better to drive, and probably not much less economical. With a full load you;'d be using a lot of right foot with the lower-powered version just to maintain progress.

I am looking for an engine rebuild for a 1.9 tdi engine, been quoted an allin 1700 GBP, company stipulates that inorder to validate 60,000mile warranty must be serviced by the comapany that supplied and fitted the engine ie themselves. Is this true I was under the impression that servicing can be carried out by an competent VAT registered garage using OE parts. Read more
Best read the small print it may be there clause of the warranty contract.
Can't you get a second hand engine from a accident motor or repair the one you have?...
Wow! These cars, though
they’re not the same as the new models, are just as good, and probably more
efficient, than those new ones coming from the factory. With this list, I hope
those who are thinking of having their first car should consider purchasing
secondhand cars too. Just be sure to check the car carefully, as well as the
reputation of the car dealer, be it a company or a private seller.... Read more
I've never bought new before, still not sure about that?
Would a good spec one year old be a better financial bet - what to watch out for?
Either way - how much leverage do ready funds hold over finance - if any? I've seen some substantial freebies that are only available with finance. Not that I'm going that route.
How much can I bargain if I don't go for a default spec but want extras and what would be the waiting time be for delivery?
I have to be general at the moment because I'm not sure what vehicle I'm going for yet?

I tried the Honda CR-V and whilst it has some very good features, overall I found it to be rather sedate and utilitarian, except for sounding a bit whiny when pushed hard.
Both were 2.2 diesels, but for me the Kia engine won hands down at any speed or ratio.
Where it will lose is in depreciation.
Any others in the same budget spetrum I could try?
Good evening. I am looking for some advice.
Up to now we've had one car, but now need a second to ferry kids around. Our budget is £3000 max although I would rather spend about £2k. I would like isofix anchors, a five door hatch if possible, though i would consider three, low insurance and tax, and cheap to run. I have in mind a Honda Civic circa 2002 on account of its good reliability record, but there may be other cars that you would recommend. if so I would be grateful for your thoughts. Read more
thanks for your recommendations, an for the welcome. I'll investigate the options. Re the number plate the letters were from my dad's first car and he did buy it in Manchester. The numbers are random.

Ring them and tell them another company has offered far less, tell them that price and sometimes they'll then offer you the same deal. By ringing up Churchill on house insurance to point out someone else would do it for less they cut it by 65%.
