IIs it just me or is any one else finding car headlights blinding at nightime?. I have recently had an eyetest and my vision is absolutely fine. From what I can tell (Being nightime) It is not only new cars that seem to have the exceptionally bright lights, but also older models, perhaps fitted with these new high intensity bulbs that chains such as Halfords seem to sell.

I would be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this. Incidentally I find these far more blinding/irritating/dangerous than some of the DRL's fitted to new cars which some people seem to hate, labelling it as trinketry or the chavs choice. Read more

I have the solution - Bacofoil. Wrapped right over my sun visor, facing outwards. As brake light dazzle is obviously not a problem for 99% of road users, when waiting at lights (with my HB on and in neutral) I am careful to tilt the sunvisor so that it throws that bright glow of comforting red light straight back at the rear view mirror of the driver in front and none into my cabin. It is quite priceless to see the simultaneously enraged and puzzled reaction from the drivers in front, most of whom cannot fathom out where the red light is actually coming from.

Had a bump and it was my fault, i admitted that and as i was fully comp was expecting a payout for my car. My dad fixed my break pads last year for the m.o.t and it passed no problem, he did however switch off the brake warning light as it would not turn off whatever he tried.

The insurance company are telling me they will not pay out due to the light being switched off even though they tell me my brakes are perfectly fine. I am in despair as if they will not pay me out, they will not pay out the third party and i have been informed that they will sue me, i own nothing.... Read more

For the Insurer to decline your claim, the accident has to be either be caused or significantly caused by the brakes being faulty or another defect with the car. In addition to this (not separately) the Insurer would also need to have a requirement in the policy that the car is maintained in a roadworthy condition.

Also it is up to the Insurer to prove the accident was caused or significantly caused by the defect....

Hi Folks,

Looks ike I have a common problem with the aircon on my Mondeo 1.8 2008 . Drivers well carpets getting damp and pongy . I lifted the carpets etc to do a trace and try dry the damp. While I was drying it I noticed a small rubber tube about three incheds long going from what appears to be the aircon unit and exits via a small white plastic fitting attached to the tunnel just beside the clutch foot reset to drain the aircon water out to the street below , Have identified the part in the Ford Microcat as Part number 4N5H 19A699-AC .... Just had a discussion/debate with a retired couple. My view is its better to reverse into a supermarket parking space. However, they like to drive in forwards so they can leave the trolley in the roadway and load shopping bags. I'd rather reverse, carry shopping bags from trolley to boot of car and then easily drive out forwards. This couple vehemently disagreed, yet the wife conceded that when reversing out she'd hit another car!!!

Well you're not going to like my approach but i tend to park in the Pick Up Only point of my local supermarket as they dont have any parking wombles to tell me otherwise. And i tend to go down in the evening where its dead and im hardly in anybodies way. When i had a Peugeot 406 i used to be able to get away with parking in the little Taxi layby bit also as it blended in perfectly. If im there for more than a quick pop-in-and-out though i will often hunt for a space nobody else likes, if thats not possible then park across two down the bottom end of the car park. Its a nice car and i dont want some Golf driving chav to dent it as he dismounts from his council estate chariot. Its not my fault parking spaces arent big enough for big luxury cars which are 100% required to go and get some milk in is it?!

Hello, i received a parking charge notice from parking eye showing photos of my car (and number plate) entering a private car park and leaving after 40 mins. They want £60 and this will apparently rise to £90 if not paid within 13 days. I have noticed there is a lot of information about these private car park management companies on the internet with most people saying ignore the letter. Has anyone any good advise on this please from a legal standpoint. Thankyou Read more

Hi, I have just received a fine from CP Plus, has anyone had dealings with these people? I spent over 2 hours in Moto service station on the motorway (Chieveley, Berkshire to be exact) I was using their facilities, i.e. having coffee and shopping their, it didn't occur to me to look out for parking restrictions. I have noticed advice on here to be to ignore it, they have offered me a discounted fine of £50 if I pay early, I have appealed already but am worried about ignoring them, which is what I want to do, but worry if I do get summoned etc. and end up paying much much more - what to do?!

What's the date of the alledged infringement?...

Hi All,

I have a problem a few times with my mondeo, when the car is warm and it's only been off for a few minutes ie just going into a shop, when starting the car again it violently shakes for a few seconds then cuts out, starting it again it starts fine an doesn't then happen again for a few weeks

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be? Read more

What seemed like an inocuous dashboard message,"dipped beam bulb failure", turned out to be not only inaccurate but unreasonably costly. The fault is not the bulb, replaced but still no dipped beam; further investigation leading to a faulty electronic part, "ballast" ?, attached to the light unit and requiring a complete replacement at an estimated cost of £1150 +vat! Most likely cause is the ingress of water during recent downpour. Does this mean we can no longer drive in wet weather? And if we do how can a repetition of this be avoided?

Awaiting reply from Volvo asking what possessed a designer to come up with such a basic flawed system.... Read more

Thanks for the warning but I shan't be touching it! When you say there is something wrong with the car do you reckon this is a fault that has developed in whatever protection is there to stop water coming in contact with these sensitive electronics? The car has been virtually trouble-free for over 100k miles so what could have deteriorated to cause this ingress? Interested to hear any views.

The fact any council has a 'strategy' on climate change is pretty laughable. Even if you believe all the nonsense spouted about it, theres nothing a little English council can do which will save the World, rainforests or polar bears. Its an insignificant spec. All it is is another 'reason' to charge you even more of your hard earned money to park somewhere. Because it will save the World. Oh yes. Obviously.

You wouldnt happen to live in Merton would you? The TPA recently featured them in their 'non Job of the week' section as Merton Borough Council are offering £39,000 a year for someone to fill the role of 'Climate Change Officer' and another £31,000 for 'Climate Change Projects Officer' to (and i quote the council in question) 'Form part of the newly created Future Merton Team which is dynamic and forward thinking in its approach to enabling development.'...
