Peugeot 306 1996 Petrol - Changing ignition lock but immobiliser problem - savage37422

(No alarm but immobiliser)
Old ignition lock beginning to seize up. Replaced with second hand lock (metal key only, no new fob), dashboard lights partially come on but cannot get to point in sequence where immobliser is available to unlock. (Engine will half turn if turn key all way, but evidently immobiliser stops it firing.) Tried new key inserted into old key fob, no difference.

Put back old lock (and key in old key fob), all OK for now.

Any help much appreciated.

Any ideas please!

I do not understand this "Engine will half turn".

The immobiliser transponder is in the body of the key not the fob. If you channge the barrel and us a different key it will not start. You will need a dealer or an independant specialist to code them. Regards Peter

Thank you for your reply.

By half turn I mean i you rotate the igintion key all the way against the spring the ignition will turn the engine over.

Dos anyone know of the way of recoding the key assembly?

Was the old key with rubber head???

You can try and get the old key as close as you can to the ignition barel and hold it there, then try starting a car with your metal key, if it starts then you know that you have a transponder inside you key (rubber head).

Take the rubber head apart and get the transponder out of it and then glue it near the ignition barel (as close as you can) or go to your nearest auto locksmith and get him to make you a copy of the key, it will cost you in a region of 25 pounds.

Hi

The old key had a hard black case with 2 buttons on it for the central locking and deadbolt.

I did try putting the newer lock key into the old fob, and it didnt work, and because of that I dont understand why your solutions will wokr.
