Can you imagine a worse hell in the North? Ok those of you in the M25 region can probably outdo this chaos, but have a read:

Oh of course £9.5million is very little in the bigger picture but its still alot of money to spend when now councils and departments are being told to cut amounts much larger than that.

You're right Dutchie to spend that long on such a tiny piece of work is quite pathetic. Did anybody see how fast the Japanese got that highway mended after that Earthquake? And that split it in two. This should be a fortnights job at maximum. Working at night will help matters though. The A14 is having work done and an 18 mile stretch being shut for a couple of weeks in October i think, but only at night. they say its either close it for two weeks or slow people down for two months, i suppose looking at it that way its better to get the problems out of the way quickly. The 37 mile diversion has got peoples backs up mind, as the main traffic at night on that road is obviously lorries, and they havent got the time to waste with a 37 mile diversion and they'll roar straight through the villages at 3am instead.

Well yes i suppose we should just take the 40s out of the stats all together and possibly the 50s as well as we were still putting the country back together at that point.

In the 60s and 70s i still think a big part of it is the safety of the cars, nobody used seatbelts so if you had an accident you were more likely to be killed (you could have the same accident in a new Volvo today and walk away from it unharmed). I think i can safely say it wasnt all due to everyone speeding everywhere in the absence of camera's. Even a crash at 25mph with no seatbelt in a mk1 Cortina wouldve been life threatening....

Some friends of mine have 'cooked' the engine in their Musso, it is the rarer 2.3l Diesel model and are finding it hard to source a replacement engine. Question is.... is it easy to replace with a more common 2.9l diesel engine, will the gearbox etc marry up or will they just have to keep looking?

hi, newbie here, have a ford fiesta 125 and it has failed the mot due to the handbrake not working on properly on the nearside. I have jacked the car up and tried adjusting the handbrake using the nut under the gaiter in the car, but still does not hold fully as i can still turn the wheel by hand, any ideas what else i could try or do i need a new cable and how difficult are they to fit? thanks in advance . Any advice greatly received. matiz stalling intermittently whilst in low revs/idle and the power is not there when restarts. After revving up it seems to clear itself. I can be driving along and feel a sudden jerk and kangarooing a bit and I know I am about to stall. Been in garage 3 times. twice, the computer couldnt find a fault. 3rd time, they said I had petrol leak and replaced tank - £300. problem solved for 1 month, now happening again. I dont feel safe driving it at moment. Many threads mentioned distributor, but apparently my model doesnt have one!! Help please!! Read more

It seems to be incompetence, so no surprise there.

Sadly, the whole motoring world seems obsessed with mineral/part synthetic/fully synthetic and totally ignores the ACEA grades....

Following on from advice we read on a post regarding a rattling / knocking suspension noise on the Ford Mondeo http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=88244 , we had a very similar problem on our Opel Zafira. It was successfully cured by replacement of both link rods and bushes. Read more

Very interesting article, suggest everyone reads it,

but, nothing unusual as the insurance industry is a huge moneymaking machine using every underhand trick in the book....

I've found by far the best prices for the new vehicle I want at two online sources and an offical dealer.

The dealer freely admitted he didn't carry it as stock and that he'd have to get it in. That would take a week and delivery anywhere in the country would be free.

What are the safest procedures for deposit (£500) and final payment?
My guess is credit card for deposit and debit for final payment.

I'd like to see car in front of me before parting with the balance.

I believe I could make a payment from funds loaded into a debit card account but can this work instantly and clear at his end. Obviously the dealer has his own parallel concerns.

I bought my car by securing it with a deposit done by online banking, and then on the day I picked it up I paid with my debit card.
