I drive a W reg Avensis, 165K on the clock. I've had it 10 years. I'm now doing 60 miles a day mainly on A roads it's showing its age and the fuel costs are biting. I'd made up my mind to spend somewhere around 7 or 8K and get a 2 yr old used fiesta or focus diesel (possibly an econetic) as seeing as how I intend to keep the car 8-10 years I assumed the better economy and lower tax would be beneficial in the long run. However I'm now reading that the 1.6 diesel engines may give problems in the long term. So it looks like I may be back to square one.... Read more
I have a 2000 (X reg) Megane 1.6 16v that has become difficult to start when cold. It has gradually got worse the past few days. It turns over fine but refuses to start as easily as before and when it does it's very rough with a fast idle, with misfiring and smoke from the exhaust which it never has done before this problem. From under the bonnet there's a slight smell of petrol, again not usual for it. It will hesitate on pulling away but once the engine is warm everything is fine. I've been told it could be a coil but more likely to be the Coolant Temperature Sensor. Any ideas as I would like to sort this out before I put it in for the MOT which is due in a week. Thanks. Hi, I do hope you can help me. I've been having problems with my clio for approx 2years. When it rains the floor in my car is full of puddles of water. I've been trying to find where its coming from, been looking underneath the glove compartment and i have poured water over my windscreen to try and see where it is leaking from...but i've had no luck. My car does not have a sunroof and no seats are getting wet...just the floor.
I would be very grateful if you could help me... Read more

hi got a laguna 2 and need new heater motor can somebody tell me how to remove old one thanks Read more
Hi, this one is surprisingly simple...
Remove the velcroed interior in the passenger footwell (under glovebox)....looking up (awkward bending) you will see a 6mm gold coloured bolt, unscrew that and turn the motor clockwise around an inch (it can be stiff), the motor should drop from its position...simply unplug it and do the reverse with your new one. Took me less than 5 minutes....
Keep getting 2 fault codes 17524 (which I can't find in book) and 16706 (P0322) Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit - No Signal. The latter code seems to be causing following problems:-
Car starts fine from cold. However, car difficult to re-start when warm after filling with fuel. Also occasionally stalling at traffic lights. Usually re-starts, but I get EPC light and car then runs lumpy.... Read more
Apparantly clearing the fault code cures it

JLR have no shortage of large engines. But no-body want them anymore and they are certainly of no use in the company car market. They need more 4-cylinder engines like the one in the Evoque and the newer Freelander 2 and isn't one going into the Jag too? Ford/PSA simply cannot guarantee the level of supply that JLR need. There are already rumors that new Freelanders are getting difficult to get hold of as the engines are needed for the Evoque launch.
Numbers of engines isn't the main point - JLR are having to pay top dollar to Ford/PSA for engines so the sooner they develop and build their own engines the better as it will reduce their cost base.
The car has been lumpy and juddering for some time, culminating in a glowplug being replaced earlier this year. The problem has not gone away, since then the fuel injectors have been suspected and due to an unclear diagnosis only cleanig fluid applied, but very little has changed.
Returning from West Country yesterday and having topped up with Shell Regular diesel it was very dillicult to start after the next stop. It then displayed the "DDE" warning on the move. This went out after the next stop but still coughed at low speeds and idling. The "MPG"went to 70+ although the fuel was beening used at a high rate leaving dark SMOKE behind us most of the way. It's booked in tomorrow, Monday, with my independent engineer - I would much appreciate you early advice. ... Read more
Have a read of HJ's reviews (above), in the whats bad category you may well find your answers.
edit...our family 320d didn't get any injector problems but it did have Millers Diesel fuel additive from it's purchase at around 35k to it's sale at around 125k...the swirl flaps were removed at around 80k.
I like huge rear wheel drive estates, so just bought this '52 Vauxhall Omega V6 Estate, good price, good condition, low miles (54k). I've had one before and like them.
But . . . . there's a kind of whining noise. I can't isolate it to one area like front, back, left, or right. Low pitched when slow, high pitched at speed, almost disappears above 70mph. Car is fiited with new-looking tyres branded "Sunny".... Read more
Jack it up and check the wheel bearings, also check the diff oil level.Any proof it's only done 52K miles?
Well, general inside and foot pedal wear looks like 52k-ish and my own HPI check was clean. Also I've had an Omega before up to 160k so have some idea of what to look and listen for. These are not 100% of course . . ....

If you get a Ceed 1.6 Diesel it will be warranted till aged 7 or reaches mileage restriction so long as it's been serviced properly, and if over 12 months or so old (check this for confirmation) will have neither DPF or DMF.
