I have a nissan Primera 51 plate with about 70k miles on the clock. Had no real problems until today when I could not get the car into reverse. Any idea what the problem could be please and how to get it fixed?
Many thanks Read more

Why also do we have to stipulate a model for posts that do not concern a particular model....
Hi all
Just failed MOT. A couple of bits and bobs need tightened but main problem is "serious fluid leak in nearside shock absorber."... Read more
So, £40 for each strut, 2 hours labour @ £35, +VAT = £180. Seems ballpark to me.
I was wondering if anyone could give me a ball park figure for what this massive service should cost on my 2003 VW Golf?
I'm bracing myself for the worst as I believe its time for the cambelt to be changed :(... Read more

Hi,
The driver's door handle decided to die yesterday so have been opening it from the passenger side to get in. I decided to remove the door trim to have a look at the lock to see if it was easy to sort, after half an hour of trying to work out how to the get the trim off, i managed to remove the inside door handle thingy (unplugging the power from the speaker), the metal covering the wing mirror, window winder, still couldn't get the trim off, unclipped it but it wouldn't come out of the top. Lifted up the trim and saw that there is a plastic sheet covering the door so gave it up.
Put the door back together although the trim wouldn't quite click back into place properly near the speaker at the bottom of the door, but it kind of went back in.
Went to get back into the car, door wouldn't open, passenger side wouldn't open. Locks are functioning via the fob, key opens the passenger side but only while the door is unlocking itself. Once the door is open, I can't open the driver's side from inside and the central locking just cycles until the door is closed.
Can unplugging the speaker cause this problem?
It's a 1999 MkIV Fiesta.
Thanks, Read more
Yeah, pulled the fuse for the central locking to be able to get into the car without the locks cycling. Still can't open the driver's door. Got a local mechanic to have a look, they're gonna have to remove the panel with the door closed, I couldn't get the thing off open.

Ive got £1000 to spend on a used car and I wanted to buy from a dealer as Ive bought privately before and always been burnt in some way or other.
Can anyone recommend a decent used car dealership in Bristol (or near Bristol) or any advice would be greatly appreciated!... Read more
Yes, maybe I was a little harsh. Of course you can get something which works for under £1k but it is not a simple task. You have to hunt around - small ads, ebay, private sales - all sorts of places. Unfortunately it is not as simple as turning up at a dealer and just choosing the colour - there is a lot of rubbish about.
Buying a £1k car is much harder than buying a £10k car. Unfortunately it has got a lot harder in the last 2 years since 400,000 mainly decent cheap cars were crushed.
I note on the HMRC website a change in the mileage expense rate for business travel in employees' own vehicles - effective 6th April 2011.
"For tax purposes: 45p for the first 10,000 business miles in a tax year, then 25p for each subsequent mile For NICs purposes: 45p for all business miles"... Read more
