Been on the receiving end of one today. However can't deny it was me and it is in fact correct. I was there. That said - I am dubious as to the legality of this (particularly so under Scottish law . . . . . . . . . . . . ) It's done by an outfit called Athena ANPR Ltd and photographs of my entry and exit are provided
However before I admit my guilt, am I correct in the above or should I just stump up and shut up . . . . . . . . Read more
why does our 1997 tvr not want to start again when hot? i.e stopping for petrol!!?? Read more
These have the dreadfull Lucas injectors that suffer from leaking when hot, so may just be flooding the engine of fuel when hot. ECU and temp sensors a well known issue so checkm first as Peter D suggested.
Also when hot remove the oil filler cap whilst idling ( watch out for hot oil splash ) and place a piece of paper over the filler cap, if it blows away all the time its ok but if ity gets sucked down over the filler hole the inlet manifold may be leaking , common issue on the V8
Hi we have a P plate 1.8 GLX Mondeo, which has several issues
1. About a week back as the weather improved (i.e. it was warm) sat in traffic for 10-15mins and car started to get very hot (hit L on Normal) and no fan action at all. At same time ABS and (P) lights came on when the car went above 1500rpm and then when stopped they would go back out.... Read more
checking that -the PATS thing is flashing code 11 (i think although this has only just started doing that wasn't doing that a minute ago :(
For eyesight, do I have to mention a successful cataract operation? There has been no further trouble and I can easily read a numberplate from the standard distance, and don't need to wear glasses while driving. Read more
Noted with thanks. This seems to cover it.
Ive got £1200 to spend on a car. Im looking for something from 2000 on with enough space to seat 2 parents, a teenager and two car seats. It needs to be something that is easy to remedy when things go wrong. i.e no time consuming labour repairs....
What would you buy? Read more
Good idea! When fuel prices are high, you can pick up a big petrol for buttons. If the annual mileage is low, the savings in purchase price more than make up for the poor fuel economy.
I've been reading that Renault Meganes built from 96-03 have a clutch system that requires the engine to be removed in order to be replaced.
Does anyone know if the Scenic from this era has the same set up with the clutch? Read more
Definitely an engine/transmission out job for all 1996-1998 Megane/Scenic models.
My Nissan Almera (52 plate, n16 engine), has developed a noise, sort of like a whistly, woo-woo noise, sounds like it is coming from the front of the car, not sure where, as I can only hear it while driving.
It happens when I am going approx 20-40 mph.... Read more
The change of noise on cornering would suggest a wheel bearing but braking doesn't usually shut it up but its possible. If its a bearing the noise generally increases when you but a load on it i.e. the left side when cornering right.
I have a 2007 140 TDI DSG. 40K miles on the clock. At around 1000 rpm the car lurches in little kangaroo jumps. Main dealer can find nothing wrong with diagnostics but acknowledges problem exists with the car. Car also occasionally stalls when starting in reverse after a long run. Fuel filters checked and clean. Any ideas?
my friend has just replaced his rear shoes on his car and i think they are wrong.
my reasons for this are the leading edge and trailing edge appear to be the wrong way round.... Read more
''I was told many year's ago that rear brake shoes should be fitted so that it appears the friction surface has been dragged round the shoes by the drums''.
Didn't rear drums usually have one leading and one trailing shoe...the latter becoming the leading shoe in reverse....and front drums generally being twin leading shoe set up?...
Rare intermittent fault - judder or 'rounded' vibration which is neither speed, gear, road surface or wheel balance related. Tyres are new and properly balanced but problem continues. There is nothing coming back through the steering wheel and it feels as if it eminates from the auto box. The classic CVJ clonking on full lock is not apparent. Any ideas please. Read more

Depends if you think the sum they are inviting you to pay seems like value for money to you.
They can't fine you, they can't charge you a penalty; all they can do is ask you to pay a sum of money for breaking a contract you have supposedly entered into. Dubious at best....
