I've been reading that Renault Meganes built from 96-03 have a clutch system that requires the engine to be removed in order to be replaced.

Does anyone know if the Scenic from this era has the same set up with the clutch?

It's almost the same car and from memory our 2001 company pool/hack car was an engine out job to replace the clutch..... at 36,000 miles!!

Thanks for letting me know. Ive been looking at 1999-2002 models as im on a £1200 budget but the worry of a 10 yr old car needing a clutch replacement has put me right off!

No, you don't need to remove the engine the replace the clutch, if a garage tell you that it simply as they want to charge you more, I dont know what engine size or if it was petrol or diesels your looking at but none of them require the removal of the engine, If its a 2.0 16 valve petrol you will be looking at between 6.5 and 7 hours labour plus parts plus vat. Good luck with finding one. PS Make sure you check all electrics on them and have TWO keys, they are expensive if you loose them

Definitely an engine/transmission out job for all 1996-1998 Megane/Scenic models.
