I was involved in an alleged accident on the 1st Feb 2010. The initial statement and diagram process was started fairly quickly but my last communication with my insurance company was 1st July 2010 when they said the only option was split liability. I accepted this (despite not being at fault) and had not heard anything since. When I renewed my insurance in August 2010, I was told that split liability meant, I pay for the other drivers damage and he pays for mine (of which there is NONE!) . Anyway, I heard nothing until today when I got sent an email asking for a diagram from me and an explanation of where I was and when.
Firstly, is there idea of split liability correct and fair? Secondly, is it acceptable to hear nothing for over nine months and then to get in contact out of the blue like this? I would be very grateful for any ideas here as this is agony being dragged up again after so long! ... Read more

Can anyone advise me which automatic transmision fluid I should use for a drain/refill in my avensis 2002 2.0 VVTi
It is the last of the "old-shape" models (facelift version of the MkI)... Read more
It probably uses an Aisin automatic transmission, since Aisin is a subsidiary of Toyota.
Dexron is a specification, not a brand. Dexron 3 licences expired at the end of 2006 and haven't been renewed. Dexron 6 aka Dexron VI is the current specification. All Dexron specifications are backwards compatible for older cars so just get some Dexron 6....
Hi there,
Hmmmmm. I have just bought a 2002 VW Passat Estate Sport and had not realised that the Sport version had 15mm lower ground clearance. What it does have is a veggie oil conversion, which was the clincher for me. However, I live down a rough track and often have the car fully loaded and so am concerned about the lower ground clearance. Certainly, I've already scraped the bottom going over a speed bump with some firebricks in the back. Don't want to do that again!
So wanted your advice as to the simplest, and cheapest way to increase the ground clearance. I wouldn't even mind going a bit higher than normal!
Cheers,

Hello
I have been offered a low mileage 1.4 Petrol engine from a 206,without ancilliaries. I would like to use it to replace the 1.4 petrol engine in the 205.Can I transfer all the manifold /carb etc from the old engine , or are the heads different. I have a well equipped home workshop, and some machining facilities.
Regards

Thanks for your reply.
I was hoping for answers to all the points you mention, pointing out those similarities and those differences which need to be overcome in order to do the swap. It seem that all everyone can offer is 'more questions than answers'.
In the absence of constructive suggestions I'll just pop the old engine out, rebore it , fit new pistons, and valve stem seals.
The red warning light comes on when I apply foot break. It does not happen all the time.
The car manual says the red warning light has two functions, ie, if the hand break is still on, or applied, or if the brake fluid level is below line.... Read more
Sounds like it's low on brake fluid - have you checked it under the bonnet !!
have recently informed finance company requesting a VT as i had paid more than half of the agreed payments stated in the agreement. Then then informed me that i would only now pay for the insurance which was added as a separate agreement and to contact their agents to drop the car off which i have done it goes in on thurs this week, contacted the finance to let them know when it was being dropped off they then told me that i would have to pay to bring the car up to market valve. I thought that as long as i had taked reasonable care of the car i wouldnt have to pay any more the car is 10yrs old and has 97500 miles on it and yes it has small minor scratches on it and a dent that was on the car when i bought it would this be classed as normal wear and tear and although i,ve had the car 3 yrs i hav only done 12000 miles in that time. some advice would be welcomed as i feel there just trying to get more money off me

here's a guy thats putting up a fight with Mazda and needs all the support from other Mazda owners !... Read more
Yes well said, lets hope more people who have been affected or should I say conned into buying one of these USELESS MAZDA cars are successful in their fight against Mazda but I also think the UK Government should also take some responsibility as they are the ones who forced these Manufacturers to build these useless Diesel engines.
The DPF system Mazda built into their cars is totally against logic for one why does the Diesel mix with the oil which in effect defeats the purpose of the oil in the first place WHICH IS THERE TO LUBRICATE THE ENGINE, I am not a mechanic but from what I’ve been told by other mechanics is my understanding is diesel engines ... engine oil contaminated with diesel will get thinner mixing diesel with the oil only contaminates the oil and will result in engine failure!!!!!! If this is the case then I believe MAZDA are the people we must fight all the way and get them to admit that the system they have installed in their engines is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE....
How can I get my radio playing again when I have (stupidly) lost the code? My chassis number is vf1kcapa826891960. All help welcome, I love listening to music while driving and I'm feeling bored in my car! It just won't do! Read more
Firstly not a good idea to post your chassis number on the internet! If you can prove ownership to your local Renault dealer they will no doubt have your radio code on file against your chassis/reg. number and for a small fee provide you with same. As an example, Vauxhall charge about £20 for a replacement PASS CARD.

We would need a lot more information as to the circumstances as to whether split liability is fair but unless there is a clear cut case (such as rear end shunt and no frontal damage to the leading car) and/or an independent witness many cases will be dealt with on a split liability basis.
Split liability means that the damage to both cars (and people) is added together and split in the agreed ratio. In a case where the liability is 50:50 then the damage is divided equally,. If the third party suffered damage and you suffered none, then you pay 50% of his repair costs....
