I'm looking for a nearly new Mondeo at the moment and most of the suitable cars I am seeing seem to have 18" alloys and to add insult to injury this seems to be a selling point.
Given the state of our roads, the additional cost of these tyres and the rapidity of wear on lower profile tyres, why are the car manufacturers almost forcing these on us ?... Read more
Hi we purchased a battery from Chrysler 18 months ago, it had a 2 yr warranty.
Our car keeps not starting, and with 3 kids and a us 1 car family that is not fun.... Read more
My dads volvo has a problem where the temperature gauge flicks from flat cold to red hot and back again quite often. It moves around really quickly.
Also - when he stops, the engine fans continue running at full speed and make a lot of noise. They continue for about 5 minutes after switching off.... Read more
my car failed its MOT on oil pressure light flashing, aside from the fact that i didnt think it could fail on an oil lights, why is it flashing? it had a rocker cover gasket seal leak, but ive replaced that. i also gave it a service so it has oil in. but when i got the new oil filter it was smaller, we put it on and ran it up, and it didnt seem to be leaking. as im currently 100 miles away from my vehicle i cant actually check myself, but any advice to why its flashing is appreciated.
many thanks. Read more
>>I suspect once they started the emissions test and discovered the ight on they suspended the test.
Good point, I hadn't considered that.
Is it safe to use a power steering stop leak product, or is this likely to cause problems long term? I have a small leak on the rack and this had been recommended, but also heard that it is not recommended for as it is not mineral oil based, which is a requirement of the VW, and that it that the swelling of the seals doesn't have an end point, which means that the long term effect is more leaks from more areas. How have others got on with these products. Read more
I took my car to get the wheel alignment done today. The steering was fine before but once I got it back it was swaying all over the place. I took it back and the guy redone it. He showed me the results on computer screen adn the tracking was spot on. The guy from the mot gararge next door test drove it and said it was a suspension fault. Fair enough. So when driving home the car sways to the right they to the left. Once I got home I jacked up the car and shook the wheels. No movement in them. I noticed when going over bumps on way home the nearside was banging at the top of the wing going over bumps and this made the car unsteady too. The offside was fine. Anyone any ideas whats causing this? Thanks Read more
Forgot to add that I have recently changed wishbones and track rod ends both sides.
Hey folks,
I picked up a cheap 1999 Mondeo diesel recently which has a problem that has me scratching my head. I noticed last night that while sitting still, the temperature guage creeps up and up and the engine fans never come on. I chickened out when it was heading towards H and turned it off to let it cool down.... Read more
Thank you. Can you suggest anything I can try apart from sender and thermostat?
Where on a car are the readings obtained for temperature that you obtain within the car itself. I've looked in my manual with no avail. I have a 2002 camry 2.4 and wonder where this might be.
Thanks... Read more
Please could someone help me locate the temperature sensor. It is something out of interest, but it would be greatly appreciated.
A few months ago we bought a Citroen Saxo and at the time my boyfriend said to register it in my name. Now that it's been fixed and MOT'd we're ready to tax and insure it. He's now suggesting that as I won't really be doing much driving he should be insured as the main driver, with me being listed as a named driver (which I have no qualms about) but in order for him to do that we need to swap the ownership of the car over. I have never held my own insurance, having never owned a car so it had been his intention to let me insure it to start building up my own no-claims (hence getting me to register it when we purchased it) but again I don't think the policy can be in my name if he is genuinely the main driver?
Can anyone clarify this situation for me please? Read more
I enquired with a couple of insurance companies regards this named driver no claims bonus. It appears that this only applies whilst you remain with the same insurance company, almost like a loyalty bonus and is not transferrable.
We've opted to insure it in my name, with him as a named driver as I hadn't appreciated his no claims can only be used on one car thus making it about the same price for either of us to insure. One small hiccup I did come across tho - some insurance companies said I needed 2 years no-claims in order to insure a "warm hatch" and as a result wouldn't even look at me.
DVD - I'm not sure why you aren't able to start a thread. Please reply in this one as I'm sure that what you want to tell us will be useful as always.
I left 'make/model' blank when starting this thread and it came up with no problem. Read more
Don't they already have Stop powers?
Vosa Officers in those highly marked Vosa Galaxy's are already empowered to to stop HGV's (and presumably PSV's) for the usual purposes....

My car runs on 15" alloy wheels. They seem to be a bit of a rarity these days, and they don't look as good on the car as the 16" or 17" rims would. But the compliancy the extra rubber gives is really handy on the pretty awful road surfaces I have to drive on. On dual carriageways tyre roar isn't an issue, and they performed much better in the snow this winter than an identical car with the low-profile tyres and bigger wheels. Win win!
