how can insurance companies tell whether you've got points on your licence or not?? that is current insurers and any new ones you'd wish to start a policy with, also how can they tell whether you've had any accidents or not. I'll be honest I've had a few accidents in the past year or so,but they've been really minor like reversing into cars and causing slightly crumpled doors etc! I've always contacted the vehicle owner right away, looking back I wished I just paid for repairs out of my own pocket, what is the point of insurance if you can't claim on it? b***** leeches. my first year of van driving - no rear view mirror! sorry if I sound irresponsible,I'm almost used to driving a van now. Obviously time has come to renew my insurance, but I don't want it to put me out of business! currently paying a reasonable £1,200,but the only quote I've got so far has been £10,000! Something I will simply have to pay,but goodbye to any decent profits this year, and maybe next? Read more

Other things not quite right:...
A friend's son is in big trouble. Aged about 30, with six points on his licence for speeding, driving a highish-powered Ford Mondeo, he was provoked by aggressive driving in North London recently into attempting an unwise overtaking manouvre. He ended up hitting a keep-left bollard and ricocheting into a woman with a pushchair, who was crossing the road. In effect, when she was hit, the car was partly on the wrong side of the road. The child was unharmed, but the woman suffered facial and leg injuries, requiring hospitalisation for several days.
At yesterday's magistrates' court hearing, after the prosecution outlined the case and the victim's statement was read out, the case was adjourned to a criminal court, as the magistrates felt their powers of sentencing might not be sufficient. As expected, an immediate driving ban was imposed on the accused, who was finally persuaded to accept legal representation.... Read more
I guess this is him.........
My daughter's having trouble with a front seat belt on her Mondeo. It won't always 'click' in. I see the problem end includes the pre-tensioner.
I presume this pre-tensioner is an explosive device and as such should be treated with great care.
Is it acceptable to just change one part of a seat-belt? There's something in the back of my mind about the two parts being a 'matched pair'.
They're dirt cheap on ebay, but if I obtained one would it need a 'black box' re-coded to recognise it? Read more

Having opted to take cash in lieu of a company car about 8 years ago I have just taken a new job and will be opting back in. I am looking for a new car but am not up to speed with what is out there. The car policy says it must be a 4 door and the emissions are capped at 160.
I am looking for something with much lower emissions to keep my personal tax code down but also looking for something that is fun to drive. This will be a second car and I will be the only person in it most of the time. I will cover approx 20-30K miles per year and it would probbaly make sense to have a diesel. To get an idea of value I could have a Passat estate or a Vauxhall insignia. I have looked at the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the new Ford Focus and a high spec Volvo S40.... Read more
If the OP plans on doing 20-30k per year than a diesel might make more sense. A Giulietta is a great car and you won't see them everywhere unlike the focus and golf....
I am considering selling my Ford Focus Estate Auto 2005/55 Mark 2, 52,000 miles.
It has the left twin flip Jeff Gosling Accelerator and Lodgesons 9 Way left handed steering control worth £1400 - both fitted Jan 2009.
Can anyone advise the best way to sell it for the best price?... Read more
is there any disabled magazines, that have for sale columns.
it seems dealerships only want to sell new stuff
My Landy (75000 miles) has an 'interesting' chugging effect on the entire car, but this only happens after having gone 5-10 miles. If I stop in traffic or at lights it feels like the whole car is shaking with an engine effect. It's remarkably similar to an engine not firing on all cylinders. A similar effect is felt if I try to accelerate harshly. I've had the torbo renewed recently, but the car was doing this before the turbo change. Do I have a fault that develops only after some sort of heat expansion? Does anyone have any helpful clues?

They do suffer with EGR valve faults and oil inpregnated wiring looms. The best thing to do is to have fault codes read to see if any faults stored. If so then 1st is check the ECU plug to the ECU to see if there is any engine oil around the connection! if there is then it needs a new injection loom and may be the |ECU cleaning. I have done many on TD5's
