I was hit by someone driving a 125cc bike, he admits fault and is insured but I have found out (from his mum) that he has an expired CBT. What is the likely outcome of this?

Hi,

I'm hoping someone more knowledgable on VW fault codes than me (which really wouldn't be hard <*** class="inlineimg" title="Embarrassment" src="http://www.savs.co.uk/images/smilies/redface.png" border="0" alt="" />) is able to help give me some advice before I try and raise it with VW customer care.

My VW Golf went in for a service and a diagnostic check on loss of power at an authorised VW repairer garage. I mentioned that a previous garage thought that it may be due to the EGR valve. They came up with a low pressure fault in the fuel pump and replaced this. When asked about the EGR they said everything was fine with it.

The next day, less than 12 hours later, I broke down on the motorway at peak time and had to get towed to the nearest authorised VW repairer garage. They did another diagnostic and said a piston in the EGR valve had seized and would need to be replaced, and also the catalyst had broken up and would need to be replaced. Total repair bill of just under £1k.

Looking at the diagnostic log from when the car was in for the service, I can see three faults.

6575 P0191 008
Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit
Range/Performance

7808 P1400 001
EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve -N18-
Electrical malfunction in circuit

7863 P1455 008
Exhaust gas temperature sender 1 -G235
Implausible signal

Now I understand that the first fault is why the fuel pump was replaced but what i was wondering was is the first garage negligent in the other two faults that could have prevented my car from cutting out the next day? It amazes me that after spending a considerable amount of time in the garage, my car would break down the day after by chance.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks <*** class="inlineimg" title="Smile" src="http://www.savs.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.png" border="0" alt="" /> Read more

Hello...

thewick

I bought a second hans car for £8,000 today - at least, I think I did. As on at least one previous occasion, the invoice given to me by the dealer differed from the agreed deal - in this case it involved a £750 reduction in the agreed price for the car, and a corresponding £750 increase in the trade-in price.

This was a main franchised dealer, so presumably there's nothing fishy going on. Could someone please explain, to settle my curiosity? Read more

I suppose you could make the dealer aware you're cognisant of this, erm, scam and cut you in on the deal?

Hi,

car: Ford Fiesta 2004 1.4i Zetec engine, current mileage 45,000,
fault: p0420 error code

First time poster and was wondering if any one can help. Have read through the forums and have got a lot of useful info on p0420 code which is "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)".

I know that this can be a number of different causes to this code. I have run an OBDii diagnostic check with a scanner hooked up to my laptop and have recorded the O2 sensor voltage output. I warmed the car up by driving it for 20 minutes and then hooked it up. From what I can tell the voltage of the front O2 sensor fluctuates between 0.1 and 0.9v and responds to throttle almost instantly. The rear 02 sensor voltage seems a lot flatter on the graph with smaller fluctuations.

I have attached two graphs one of the car idling at 750 rpm and the other of the car at 1500 going up to 2500rpm. One each picture the 02 sensor voltage is shown by the bottom graphs with the blue line being the front 02 sensor and the yellow being the rear.

On the first graph, when it is idling, the time between the front O2 sensor reading a high voltage (~0.9v) and then it dropping down and reading a high voltage again is about 3-4 secs.

If any one can tell me whether they think there is any problems with the O2 sensors I would really appreciate it. If you need any more info please ask. Thanks very much for your time.

Quite a few on ebay at the moment - search by distance as the decent ones are quite heavy.

Perhaps no lasting damage but it would have given the oil in the transmission a damn good work out - the diff must have been working overtime!
