hi there ,
I keep getting a message saying that i should have a "control "on the injection ( its a french car so hence the translation ) , I have taken it ti a couple of renault garages here in Frane and 1 fitted a new fuel filter which seemed ok for a couple of days then the message came back ; the other garage says that they cannot find a fault at all .... I have a harman becker rb3 be6802 fitted to my jeep. It gives a ding-dong warning 43 seconds after start-up. One minute later there is a irritating 15 second alarm of about 1kHz. How do I get rid of this Read more
I have just had a new windscreen fitted and I swear that there is now more engine noise in the car! has anyone had this happen to them? it is similar to having a front window slightly open when stationary and reving the engine. Read more
Are there different tests for automatic and manual transmission motorbikes? Read more
Not as such. Although the difference between "moped" and "motorcycle" could well include such a distinction.... Have alooksee at
I have a full car licence obtained in 1985 which is also a full moped licence.
I was thinking of buying a moped and using it to do my motorbike CBT and training. I'd be able to ride the bike to the CBT site and save the cost of hiring one. (I want to do the CBT even if I don't have to)... Read more
A moped is defined as having a cylinder capacity of less than 50cc and a top speed of 30 mph. unless you get a pre 1977 model where the law stated less than 50cc and had to be capable of being pedalled. The law changed when so called mopeds were capable of going at 50-60 mph and were ridden by 16 year olds who normally stuffed them in the nearest hedge or killed themselves. I was one of those, although I did manage to avoid the hedges but had a few scary moments but am still alive, but at 16 riding a Yamaha FS1E at 50 mph was great fun.
So if your 50cc scooter is defined in law as a moped, then you have a full licence for that class of vehicle and cannot take another test. However if it is a motorcycle I suppose you could take your test and get a full A1 motorcycle licence which would let you ride upto 125cc and i think 12bhp machine as a full licence holder.
Hiya i have an annoying problem. My Vectra cuts out after 5-6 mins tops as if its run out of petrol. Its not the petrol pump or the relay as both have been changed and made no difference. Have had breakdown out but they were found no error codes. The ECU light isnt on. After it dies out it takes a while to restart. Before it dies out when starting i can hear the petrol pump. After its died out i cant hear ir priming when i try starting. . Not long ago it had a service so all filters etc have been changed. The car doesnt sound rough sounds perfect even when revved high so no pinking etc.. Just wondered where my friend can look now i have been told about sensors but wondered if this was the case how can they be tested to see?. much appreciated for any info.
Thanx.... Read more
What if wanted to replace my fabulous Jag XJS ( unlikely, but what if?)
I would need 5 seater.
Coupe/ 4 door / 5 door / don't mind
Plenty of wood/leather and luxury all around
Awesome sports performance
Manual gearbox
Old enough design that I can pick up a used one in clean nic for under £8K
Modern enough that it won't disintegrate and be reliable
Perferably smaller (quite a bit smaller) than my Jag
Based upon recent experiences:
1. a Jag 4 door XJR saloon would be on of my list, but no getting away from the Arthur Daley image as far as Mrs G goes, so probably a non starter
2. BMW 5 Series not for me I'm afraid, theres too much BMW in my street, and everytime I have driven one I have not enjoyed it,
3. My old Merc CLK320 was the most uninspiring drive ever, I wouldn't go back to that
4. Going back further, my Nissan 200SX Turbo was too lethal in the wet and too easy to put in a ditch
5. Suburu Imprezas / Mitsubishi EVOs are just too low rent interior wise, and too boy racer image wise
Here's some ideas:
Rather large:

Still a Golf!

Could definately be tempted:

Would I be mad? (Crap listing, terrible photos, but always been a car I fancy)

Any more ideas?

Guy - it has to be another Jaguar surely? You need something that appeals to you (heart) and the rest of the Gampses (head) - so if an XJ is too near the XJS in length, it's between an S and an X. You need to be happy with the looks of the S-type and not to mind that there are Mondeo parts in the X-type - but I'd almost bet that you'll end up with a 3-litre X or (probably) a 4-litre S-type.
If it were me I'd have a fast Audi A4 on my list (smaller than a big Jag but more room for the family than an A3), but would it give you the same thrill as a Jaguar?...
Received a PCN yesterday for being parked on a loading/unloading area even though i only arrived at 08.53 and ticket was issued 08:55 and i never once left the vehicle unattended.
i was under the impression that a PCN could not be issued if the vehcile was not left unattended. Am i correct in thinking this?... Read more
them budget cuts really taking effect now eh?
They'll come round your house and ticket you soon, just in case you might do something later.
my garage has noted metal debris in this filter bowl and is fortelling serious future failure and expence though the car at 100,000 is currently operating faultlessly. I do not push the car's performance, normally using cruise control at 70 mph and at 30 or 40 in built-up areas. Can I take any pre-emptive action to allieviate or prevent trouble. I believe the high pressure pump and injectors are in danger or even already going over. Read more
The debris probably originates from the electric fuel lift pump in the tank. 100k miles is longer than most of these pumps last and I would change it now as a precaution. Failure means breakdown.
Be very careful indeed how you or a garage dismantles the fuel filter. If incorrectly done, the metal frag caught within the housing can enter the engine driven high pressure pump when the element is removed. This will cause terminal damage....
When inserting a driveshaft into the gearbox with a tripod joint do you hit it in until it clips in or just insert it. I didnt want to force it in earlier but when i put it in it falls out quite easily. The manual only says to insert it in but in the past with other type of driveshafts they have always clipped in. Thanks Read more
The are normally held in by a snap ring, if you slide it in hard it should hold. If its the o/s shaft it probably has a centre bearing which will likely hold it in position anyway but the n/s one can slide quite well out if its not 'snapped'.

Thanks doc. this was exactly what I was hoping it wasn't. I will do the check as suggested. I am already not happy with their work. Ho Hum - live and learn!!!
