Peugeot 306 1.4 - Am I being ripped off? - gavmoffat

Hi all

Just failed MOT. A couple of bits and bobs need tightened but main problem is "serious fluid leak in nearside shock absorber."

Apparently it can't be patched up, requires a new strut and for parts and labours will cost between 150 - 200.

Is this guy trying to steal from me or does that sound about right?

not if for proper parts AND for a pair, as it should be ? make sure you ask for the part to be given afterwards - most shocks have no faults with them

Beat me to it. They are not repairable and must be replaced in two's (axle pairs).

That said the parts for your car are about £50 a corner (max!). If I were you I'd get a quote from someone like Kwik Fit to replace them. Purely as a gude.

I wonder if (for that price) the garage is trying to sell you new springs too. Seems a bit on the high side to me.

So, £40 for each strut, 2 hours labour @ £35, +VAT = £180. Seems ballpark to me.
