i have a 54 plate 307 hdi and it is in limp mode have taken to several garages and they could not find the fault i am getting an anti polution fault on dash and when i took to peugeot garage they said that there was an airflow sensor fault when hooked up to the computer there was no clip on the meter so they replaced that and this did not solve the problem and said it requires further investigation but they want about £300 just to investigate this and dont want to pay that if the problem is not that serious any ideas welcome please !!!!!! Hi All.
My 2002 (52 plate) Escort Van has become a right pig to start from cold. I have renewed the glow plugs, and have checked the power going to them, so its definately not a "heat" problem, so im guessing (from reading up on the subject on many forum threads) that it is possible that the diesel is going back to the tank? meaning an airleak of some sort?. To try and justified this i took the air intake off one morning and dropped a spoonful of diesel down each pot, put the air intake back on, turned the key, heated the plugs and hey presto it fired straight away, albeit didnt run as it only had the spoonful of diesel to burn, which would strenghten my case that the diesel is running back? Today i have renewed the primer pump on the fuel filter, as i read that these can sometimes leak air, but i still have the problem?......any suggestions? I have also changed the fuel line between the primer pump and the injector pump as both fittings didnt seem that "tight", but that still hasnt cured it. I have noticed that one of the diesel injectors has a leak, could that cause the fuel to creep back??? It seems that i am running out of "cheap" options. The pump timing has been checked, could it be the pump itself? but it does run ok once started, abeit a bit smokey these days and not very quick (bluey/whitey smoke...related?)
Like i say, i am running out of ideas, would be greatful if anyone could shed some light as to what else i could try. Someone did say there was a "shut off valve" on the pump that sometimes sticks??......couldnt see it (but didnt really know what i was looking for)
Thanks in advance

Just try connecting them to the 12 volts, if that helps and it runs OK leave them connected. You can pick up a 12v switched supply from the fuel solonoid towards the rear of the pump on the top.

Several of us have this hard disk drive system in XTrails but I gather it has been fitted in other models in the Nissan range too - perhaps for two years. It works well but as far as I can tell there has never been an update DVD made and so owners are stuck with whatever map version was installed at manufacture. Not so much as an annual update never mind a quarterly as available by download for Garmin owners.. Is this really so - we're stuck with old maps that can't be updated? Why? Do Nissan care so little about existing customers? Who makes the system for Nissan? Is it possible to buy an update from the system manufacturer or to crack the code and update with map data bought from Navteq / Garmin / Tom Tom? Or should we stick portable units on the very impressive fitted screens and just use the audio system? Is this "known Nissan issue" replicated with other car makers and their fitted hdd satnavs?

If so, this should be public knowledge to prevent orders of expensive options when cheap after market kit will continue to offer current map data. ... Read more

I'll never buy a car from a main dealer again, having bought from independents for quite a while and then getting my latest car from a Main dealer was an eye opener, I thought my own situation would've been a one off, but no a relative bought a 2nd hand beemer; flat tyre & shoddy valetting etc, If that was'nt bad enough; it's do you want this very reasonable (but massively overpriced) extra, or this very reasonable (but massively overpriced) extra, whereas an independent does'nt push extra's, does genuinely care about the customer, because a happy customer normally returns ;-), and will ensure that the car is fully prepped and ready for the customer.

Nissan sales & service do take a hammering especially when compared to the likes of Honda (see which's ratings), as for updating Nissan connect, if it is £260+ as you say, it'll be years out of date anyway, and would'nt it be cheaper to get a tom tom for less than £100 and get that updated for 4 years, lol. The connect system is'nt cheap for starters and if you're right adding another £260+ on top for out of date updates is somewhat taking the Pi??.

Hi there

I'm currently looking to replace all four corners on my 1.4 Citroen Berlingo in the next couple of days. As like most people these days,I am feeling the pinch and have been trying out various "maximiling" techniques to try and squeeze every drop out of my ever contracting fuel tank! So I was wondering about the claims Michelin are making for this tyre. They sound impressive but they are pretty darned expensive in comparison with my usual mid-range choice's (Firestone/Uniroyal/Avon) I also read somewhere that grip and handling can be somewhat compromised with energy saving tyres, however my driving style and vehicle choice certainly do not push tyres to their limits. So my question is... are they really worth the initial outlay, or just a clever piece of marketing? Read more

I replaced my OE fitment Michelin Energy's with Continental Eco tyres. They feel smoother and are noticeably quieter.

I had Pirellis on my Toyota and I changed them for Nexen's which I was pleased with, Handling, Dry and wet weather were all good in my opinion.

My focus was diagnosed as having a faulty dpf - the cost is £800 ! I can afford it yet, but an I safely use the car without causing any damage for a week or two - I accept the loss of power but I dont want to use it if I am going to damage it Read more

It's worth phoning a car scrap yard, they have components available such as a Focus DPF.

Hi All, bit of ignorance here on my part but there is road near me that has a 7.5T weight restriction on it and some quite large stuff uses it. I have to admit that haven't got a clue what 7.T looks like.

Also I thought that the limit applies to the max laden weight of the vehicle and that even if unladen the restriction still applies. Is that right?... Read more

Just had a new Volvo S60 D3 (the 2 litre 5-pot diesel) on a 24-hour test drive, did around 150 miles of motorway, town and A-road driving.

The good: usual Volvo superb front seats (cloth), adjustable every which way. Nice even weighting on all controls, especially steering which has a lovely fluid feel without being overlight.

Excellent suspension control, ride and road noise suppression on standard 17" alloys and 50-profile tyres. It flows nicely over broken, bumpy surfaces without crashing or jarring. As good as my current Mondeo in this respect.

Handling is tidy and safe, it goes where you point it without understeer affecting the line.

The D3 engine (single turbo, 161bhp and 300ft-lb) is utterly fantastic. SO effortless, even the slightest flex of your ankle has the car leaping forward.

Some road tests have criticised it for having a narrow torque band ... all I can say is, the one I tested didn't. It pulled HARD and revved swiftly from just over 1500rpm to 4,000+ without tailing off in 3rd, giving awesome overtaking punch in the middle ratios. 6th gear is 39mph / 1000 rpm so it lopes along motorways easily yet still picks up and flies without needing a downchange.

Fuel consumption according to the on-board computer over 150 mixed miles is 49mpg ... even if it's 20% optimistic, that's around 40mpg which, given the performance available, is pretty good.

Dislikes: electronic parking brake (I suppose you get used to them) and no clutch footrest, which is an oversight in my opinion.

Overall: that's my next company car sorted, then. Read more

@ Avant -- you make a good point here on prices. ...

Hi.I am considering getting my X-Trail converted to LPG as i only get 29mpg.However i am getting conflicting views when asking for quotes online. One garage has said that the car has "severe valve seat recession"and that it will last 8-10000 miles even with oil injection(like flashlube)and then a £1500 repair bill for new exhaust valves and seats !The others have given me quotes from £970 to £1600. Has anyone with the same motor or similar had problems with their conversion as i now have grave doubts as to wether to go ahead. Many thanks,Tony. Read more

Your worrying excesively over nothing. Have the conversion done and get Flash lube fitted. Job done. Your extra £700 is fixing a problem before it MIGHT happen. So logically it's like buying four new tyres every week just in case you gat a puncture.

Cheers,

Not sure if this is the right section or even the right forum to post this question but I thought id post it anyway because I cant seem to get a straight answer from anywhere else...hope some one can help

I've been considering getting my hgv licence for some years now but I've always been put off at the thought of having to spend nights away from home. I am 25 and have a one year old son and a mrs so do not like the idea of never seeing my family.

Working shifts doesnt bother me, if I had to work days, nights and noons I'd be fine with that but I certainly dont want to be in a position where I'm out all week, EVERY WEEK. I wouldnt mind having to sleep out in the cab every now and then, like once every couple of weeks for example, I realise we have to take the rough with the smooth.

I have family members who hold there class 1 licence, 2 uncles and a cousin. One uncle starts around 6am and is back home for about 3pm most days, I dont know how much he gets paid or anything.

My other uncle does 12 hour shifts, four on four off but is home every night.

My cousin on the other hand is out all week from monday to friday night and he loves it but this is what I DONT want.

I also know other lads from the footy who do various shifts and hours but my question is how likely is it to get a job where you are at home every (or most) nights ? I hear all sorts of horror stories on the internet about 80+ hour weeks and never been home and family life taking the brunt of it all. Then i hear other stories of cushy 9-5 jobs, Im sure alot of stuff is from people who know nothing or from people who are just trying to put newbies off getting there licence for whatever reason.

Basically I'm not loaded, (far from it) but NEED to change jobs, so what are the chances of getting a HGV job where I can be home at night. I understand that the BIG money jobs are class one artic and to be making 30k + you've gotta put the hours in and be out all the time (in most cases) but wouldnt I be more than likely to find what Im lookin for if I only did my class 2 and was happy to accepte far less (more like about 18k). Over the years I've learned that job satisfaction is more important than the money (to me). Is it worth me investing 1k or how ever much it costs to do my class 2 with the hope of getting work where I can be home at night ? ?

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any info in advance
