Hi all
I posted a while back as I was worried about my VW Polo Bluemotion if I were to move closer to my work and stop doing 100 mile round-trip commutes. I am now soon moving even closer than expected. Basiclaly I won't be using the car much and it would be mainly short trips.

When I first had the car I had problems with teh dpf light coming on. The 100 mile round-trip commutes sorted that completely.

But now I'm wondering if there is anything I can do when I move again?
Or would the best optionbe to try & sell the car and get a non-dpf (probably petrol) one?

I should also mention it's an 09. If I did have to sell it how would I get the most for it (not keen on part-exing on a more expensive one) Read more

It doesn't -- DPF regeneration is the same as a charcoal fire, the soot burns to produce carbon dioxide and water.

The tiny amount of non-flammable residue remains trapped in the DPF matrix, but takes up far less room than the soot particles so doesn't affect engine operation.

Just about to service the Mondy for the first time and have got a service kit.

Is the oil filter underneath near the sump? It is a cartridge type. Also I have read that the car can be hard to start if the diesel filter is not primed properly.... Read more

Monsieur Kev

Well, the garage did not change the air filter at the last service and it is filthy. 60,000 kms is too long. If you get the garage to change it, the diesel filter costs a fortune on a MK4, likewise the pollen filter where on LHD cars you have to remove the accelerator pedal to locate it. Here in France, you get charged for each individual job in a service, rather than it being a package price

I have a 2001 2.0TDDi 75ps transit. When i start the van from cold it starts fine, but runs on what feels like 3 and a half cylinders it diesel knocks and smokes. It does this for about 5min and then idles fine and stops smoking and sounds spot on. The van also feels under powered and a bit flat all the time, it will go along at 70-75mph ok when empty but seems to work hard to get it there and I used the van the other day to tow a classic mini on a 4 wheeled trailer and it couldnt maintain 50mph on the motorway.

I have spoken to a diesel specialist and have been told that this sympton sounds like a bent con rod which i find hard to believe as surely for this to happen it must have to have valve to piston contact or it must of hydrauliced. Neither of these have happened.... Read more

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have checked the timing as it did feel a bit like injection timing was out but that is spot on, I am a mechanic for Porsche so understand what a badly timed engine can do but unfortunately do not do much with diesels. A compression check is the next step I think and while I'm there send off the injectors for recon as this will do no harm. I don't suspect the pump as from my little diesel experience pumps either work or don't work and nothing in-between.

I've got a Hyundai i10 which I've had from brand new (May 2009) and today noticed a small salt/water mark about an inch high in the front passenger footwell . On lifting up my rubber car mats I found that the carpets underneath were soaked - with it worst on the passenger and rear carpets. All other surfaces are bone dry - it's only the lowest points of the floor carpet that are wet. I had thought there was a bit of a smell in the car and this explains it.

I then checked the boot - the boot carpet and plastic storage compartment underneath are bone dry but there was water underneath the plastic compartment; the padding on the base of the plastic compartment that rests on the wheel arch was soaked, there was water/condensation collected in the spare itself and there was about an inch or so of water pooled in the spare wheel well.... Thanks for all the replies and advice about the carpets.

They confirm my thoughts that Hyundai should either dry the carpets and underlay out properly, to my satisfaction (i.e no smell, mould, etc.) or replace them completely....

My 08 plate Zafira 1.9 CDTI 150 is from time to time blowing blue smoke out of the exhaust, I've noticed it's using more deisel lately and the oil level is rising ! can someone help ? Read more

unthrottled

The oil is becoming diluted with diesel. Drain it out, and replace with fresh uncontaminated oil. For blue smoke to form, the oil level must be sufficiently high that some of the oil is being forced into the cylinders. This exchange of oil and fuel isn't good! I don't know why the contamination is occuring-perhaps due to an active DPF regeneration which requires diesel to be sprayed into the exhaust gases. Some of this might be running down the cylinder bores into the sump.

I have purchased this vehicle from new. It has always had an intermittent problem where it will not go into Drive and only go into 3rd gear. It has been taken back to Suzuki main dealer many times over the 3 years warranty and they have never found a problem with it. They have just replaced the auto transmission fluid.

Now it is out of warranty (by 6 weeks) and has completely stuck and will never go into Drive, 1st or 2nd gear. I therefore have had to drive it in 3rd for a week before a new part could be found. ... Read more

The problem arises due to the total lack of expertise in dismanting any discovering a fault its normally a fit a new one syndrome. The problem with autoboxes is that they are quite a specialised item and save expense your agent hhas been trying to solve this himself and not bringing in someone who knows about the problem now its gone udders up he will be panicking and clutching at straws the only solution is for someone with some knowledge of autoboxes to have a look and repair or replace as they think fit all this should be done at their expense and under the circumstances providing you with a service car.Having to drive an auto around in 3rd for a week could have done untold damage.

This type of topic has been done to death on this forum. One more time though. The ECM is a computer, a dumb machine that does exactly what it's told. It cannot think, apply common sense or reason. It does exactly what it's prgrammed to do. It receives information from the O2 sensors in the form of a voltage, just like it does from every other sensor. The ECM cannot tell if the information received is accurate or not. It just acts on what it receives. It cannot tell the difference between a low voltage received due a faulty sensor or a low voltage received because of some other mechanical problem which is affecting combustion efficiency. It just sees a low voltage. If you can understand this then you will go a long way to understanding how and why the ECM logs fault codes. To begin to accurately diagnose faults you have to think like the way a computer works.

Ive just swapped an engine in a Kia Sedon 2.9 CRDi, 2004 reg. Everything is in and seems fine, good compression, good fuel prssure, strong battery etc. problem is the injectors arent opening. They are the originial injectors in the original locations so its not a coding issue. I have had a noid light in the injector wiring plugs and there is nothing at all. My autodata doesnt have a wiring diagram for this vehicle so I am struggling with basic checks.

The cam sensor has a 3 pin plug on the ecu side unplugged with 5 volts at 2 of the terminals and one to earth which seems odd.... Read more

yeah it was a big relief. The first day the injectors went in it would only fire on one cylinder. the diesel specialists tried blaming all sorts instead of the injectors they overhauled. Eventually they agrred to restest the injectors and sure enough 3 had locked up again. guess they were stoiod dry after the rebuild. they sorted them FOC as expected and it fired up.

Think I probably lost a lot of money on that job given the work I had to turn away due to space. Still thats the car game!!

I have just bought a Nissan Note Acenta, unfortuatly the car did not come with a handbook.

Can anybody tell me how to set up and use the Cruise control and speed limiter on this car.... Read more

Your welcome. Another thing when in cruise you can speed up to say overtake then remove your foot from the accelerator and it returns to the set speed. Whilst you 'over speed' the symbol will flash then when you return to the set speed it will stop flashing.

I have been driving my Zafira Comfort 1.8 petrol for the last 11 years, and it has done 195,000 miles and has been a wonderful workhorse. Nothing flashy, but has been everywhere.

Just before Christmas I had 4 new tyres and a new exhaust. On Saturday I had new brakes, disks and springs. On Sunday it died, it looks like it needs a new engine. So the dilemna. ... Read more
