An error message "engine systems fault" appeared on dashboard which was shortly followed by "acceleration reduced" message. Took it to local garage and they did a diagnostic but said so many codes were being thrown up that they weren't sure what was the cause. They said most common reason was problems with the sensors so they replaced turbine shaft speed sensor and the engine speed sensor. Took the car home and drove it for about 30 miles and then the same error messages came up. Took the car back to the garage and they did an electrical diagnostic which they said showed "cranking voltage low on starting" and they replaced the battery. Picked it up from the garage and as I was driving away the same messages came up again. Took it straight back to the garage and they phoned Ford technical who said there was sometimes problems with moisture so they cleaned all plugs. Picked the car up drove it for about ten miles and then the messages came up again. I'm now £270 down with my car still having the same problems. Has anyone got any ideas about what the real problem is? Something I have always had a problem with for the year and a half that I have had the car and before the error messages started appearing, is that the car seems to lack oomph when accelerating - could this be something to do with it? I would be very grateful for some advice on which makes and models would be most suitable for use in Executive Private Hire work, mainly for use to and from Airports and other long-distance trips.

The Skoda Superb has been suggested to me as a very good example but I would appreciate any other ideas too. I'm not too fussy about whether it is manual or auto transmission but would suggest that a diesel engine would be prefarable to an petrol one in view of the potential high mileage.... Read more

Agree with the Mercedes choice. True some bits can be expensive but what car runs for free? the important bit is that your running costs will be set against tax as business expenses.

Brainache

My girlfriends just bought a second hand Fiesta (1.4, 52 plate) and just recently the Battery indicator has started coming on when we first start it up in the morning. It quite often takes 2 turns of the key to start up the engine (the first attempt just lights up all the dash then they all go off).

Once we set off the battery indicator sometimes stays on for up to 1 minute and some times we will just manouvere the car round in the street to set off and all the electrics go out. This has only happened a couple of times and if we turn the engine off and back on again everything starts up fine and off we go. These are the only problems we've found with it, everything seems fine once we're driving around.... Read more

Also check battery connections for tightness/corrosion and earth connections.

Hi i'm new to this forum so hello and thanks for any help in advanced. Ive got a 2.0 TDDI mondeo that wont start. I cracked of the injector pipes and cranked over Cylinder's 1, 3 & 4 just dribble out but cylinder 2 fires out as you would expect it too. I removed the fuel line into the high pressure pump and cranked it over and fuel rushes out which rules out the lift pump. I suspect the fault lies in the high pressure pump but im unsure if its the mechanical part of the pump or the ecu part of the pump? sureley its mechanicly fine if it supplies good pressure to number 2?. Ive found a company that repaires the control units on these pumps so if thats the problem it would make it alot cheaper for me. Any help would be really appreciated thanks again!!!!!!!!! Read more

I checked the injection pump power relay today, to make sure the pump is getting the power and a good earth all found ok, Iv'e bought a pump with a faulty ecu so i'm going to swap the ecu over and fit the other pump, proberly not the best way to go about fixng it but worth ago as i bough the pump for £30.

Hi, my key no longer opens the door via the remote, I now have to unlock the car manually. I assumed the key was not charging in the ignition because I only do short drives and a 20-30 mile long drive once a week. During Xmas, I had a dead car battery so changed it over. This hasn't rectified the problem. Mini have said it sounds as if I need a new key and it re-coding, however, will do a diagnostic test first. I know they're going to cost me £120+ for this. Is there anywhere I can get a remote key from, other than the main dealer? I know a garage that can re-code it for £20.00 but can't get the key. Any suggestions really appreciated. =) Read more

One of my favourite lady friends is looking to change her car as she needs a comfortable mile muncher due to a change in jobs, family living a long way away, and the fact that her 02 Astra is getting through oil like the Queen mother used to get through Gin & tonics.

Anyway she is completely taken with a 56 plate Citroen C5 we saw at the local dealers, which is a 56, 1.8 petrol engine and seems immaculate, FSH one owner 48 K miles and is up for only 3.5 grand.... Read more

Mr Fox

Got the car.

It was totally immaculate 48 K miles and drives beautifully, with a freah MOT even though there was almost 5 months left on the old one, it looks and feels like new car so we didn't mess about....

I took my car to the garage as it stopped working after not being used for the month od December. The AA suggested that I get my coil pack tested. Investigation by my garage showed that My No 4 Injector was faulty. I have had my No 4 Injector replaced and the spark plugs changed. The coil pack and battery were checked over.

I have been driving it now for two weeks and the Airbag light is now permanently on and it beeps when I apply the handbrake. The speedometer now no longer moves from zero.

Any ideas what is wrong and is it safe to drive? Read more

Hi i was wondering if you managed to figure out what the problem was? I have just bought the same car and the speedo stays at zero as well as airbag light being on and hanbrake beeping, thanks
