Brum, I've had 3 VAG group cars and met or exceeeded the mpg with each one. Last long trip in the 2 litre 140 Diesel fully loaded: 2000 miles, 1600 motorway at a 90 cruise and then the ususal pootling around. 46 mpg overall. If I cut the motorways to 80 then it exceeds the published 49.

I am having problems with my car. My interior light, electric mirrors, rear/front windscreen heaters, front intermittent wiper, rear wiper and warning lights alarm have all stopped working. I have also noticed when sometimes i change gear the car jerks and the radio goes very loud just for a split second. The warning door light sometimes flashes and the central locking can lock and unlock whilst i am driving. Has anybody got any ideas please!!!!!! Read more

Thank you for the very helpful replies.

I am trying to understand the implications of insurance if we decide to write the car off.

The assessor has said the car will need a full respray to comply with the report they have done to make it roadworthly, until that is done we can only insure third party. Surely because the car will have been written off and is worth so little it won't matter if we only have third party?

Thanks for your help

sounds like a lazy or dirty starter motor/solonoid.
Check all the connections but sounds like its the start or starter motor failure.

Just to advise that I took my 2006 Yaris diesel to the local dealer at 85,000 miles with a slipping clutch to find out how expensive it would be to repair (none of the clutch specialist would touch it because of mmt autobox) Extremely pleasantly surprised to be told they would replace the clutch and actuator for free because Toyota had just issued a recall due to some problem with the existing ecu which presumably causes the clutch to fail early. the ecu was upgraded at the same time.
