Hi,
I went to renew my insurance policy and i told them about some previous motoring convictions that occured some years ago as which i hadnt told them about because i didnt realise i had to. anyhow they are now trying to backdate charges to when i received those convictions despite the fact there related to an insurance policy a couple of years ago and i never made a claim and they possibly would never have paid out. Can they do this and is there not an obligation on insurance companies to check information with the dvla, if they do make such checks and are aware of your motoring convictions should they be selling me insurance?... Hi everyone
I have a 2003 Jazz which has recently developed a small fault. The dashboard A/C switch no longer illuminates blue when it's turned on. I assume the small blue light is an LED, so is it a simple job of checking and replacing the fuse?... Read more
Thanks for your reply. Yes the a/c is working to the best of my knowledge, i.e. if windscreen steams up without a/c on, pressing the switch quickly removes the condensation.
Admittedly it hasn't been re-gassed since new. Kwik-fit appear to have cheap prices for this, whether or not I should trust them is another thing......
Has anyone bought any policies from this company?
I paid for a policy on 28th December yet despite emailing and calling them I have yet to receive my policy document.... Read more
Yes it is.
i have oil sludge in the hoses leading from the emmisions control value through to the intercooler
engine runs fine slight black smoke on acceleration fully serviced but high mileage
any ideas of cause of sludge Read more
Its quite normal to have oil deposits in anything connected to the crank case breathing/air intake pipes but there will be more if the engine is worn. If its running OK I wouldn't worry about it but it might be a good idea to clean the pipes out if obstructed.
Scenario
Wife summonsed to court having been 'safety camera'd' - 48 mph in a 40 zone. It got to court because she is having chemotherapy and as we have been rather preoccupied with that, overlooked the deadlines in responding to AA Drivetech offers to attend Speed Awareness courses.
Wrote explanatory grovelling letter to the court and have just heard that she has been given 3 points - that's all. Her returned licence shows £60 fine but we haven't paid that nor have we had a demand for payment.
Questions
Has she been let off the fine?
Does the demand for payment come separately?
Do we try and contact the court and offer to pay?
Will they chase us for non-payment if we don't?
Do we keep quiet and count our blessings? Read more
Update:
As LucyBC predicted, demand for £75 appeared albeit 1 day before the last day for payment, failing which all sorts of dire repercussions were threatened. Hopeless court admin but couldn't be bothered to challenge them so paid online for a quiet life.
I took my car in for new brake pads and a brake fluid change to a garage (well known chain) - which shall remain nameless for the moment - in November. I went back a few hours later and paid for the work, assuming they had done their job correctly.
However, I went to my usual garage for a service one month later, who advised me that my brake fluid needed changing! I asked them to double check, which they did, and said the water reading went off the scale immediately.... Read more
1st thing to do is to back to the first Garage and ask for an explanation or a fluid change FOC
2nd depending on the make of car there are some that suffer with water leaking into the resovouir!...
Amazing video from Oz, particularly the aftermath towards the end.

Gentlemen
I don't think this contravenes rule 112 of the highway code, but what do you think? I keep an aerosol horn in the car. They are very very loud. To be honest, I use it to signal my displeasure at the following: litterbugs, jaywalkers, street drinkers, aggressive or lazy or stupid drivers, and ruffians generally. There is another category which I won't mention, but I believe they have a cavalier attitude to planning regulations. ... Read more
Hardly heroic, licking your tongue out and running away.
im just about to buy a 1999 Ford Mondeo Ghia X V6 auto. what should i look out for? are auto gearboxes reliable? please help. thanks Read more
the V6 is a very good engine, as long as you look after it. Dont skimp on servicing and mpg is not great 25-29 mpg.
expect the alternator to fail unless its already been done....

They can claim the difference between what you were charged and what you would have been charged had they been aware of the offences.
It's difficult to get away from these as they will log the data on various insurance industry databases.
