I have a 2010 cube CVT . Have owned since 2011 one of the Nissan imports , would love to get a new one to replace . What I can't understand is why Nissan just did not give it a little more time to establish a foot hold in the uk market place. To this day people show lots of interest in the car , more so than any vehicle I have ever owned ,and could have sold it a dozen times , especially when they sit in it and amazed at the space and ease of access / spec . As I write I am exploring the possibility of obtaining a new one direct from Japan . Best small mpv that wasn't given a chance in the uk Read more

Hi

After a bit of advice about my 2008 Nissan Note 1600 Auto, done about 25k. About 3 months ago it started making a squeeling fan belt noise. The dealer sorted out new auxillary belt under warranty, and was serviced at the same time.... Read more

Sounds like my problem and is almost certainly noise from one or more of the hydraulic tappets valve lifter. Mine seems to have cleared itself but as a precaution I will have the engine flushed at next oil and filter change. Good luck

I hope someone can help - have a 2007 Focus 1.6 which has developed an intermittent fault. Three times in the past couple of months we've had the engine cut out - power steering etc fails and engine wont re-start. On each occasion we've been unable to re-start the car, but after calling out recovery the car has eventually started (with no intervention) - although once only after it was bumped onto the recovery 'cradle'. On the last occasion the recovery guy checked the plugs and there was no spark (until it was bumped!)

Two ford garages and one local have been unable to locate any fault - although the first one said that the coil pack was showing a fault in the engine log so they replaced that. It had no effect although after the second breakdown they replaced the coil-pack again (again to no effect since it broke down a couple of weeks later).... Read more

Hi

I have a galaxy and had a similar problem. I was driving along, luckily in traffic, when the car just stopped. I had no engine power to the car, all power steering was off and it wouldn't restart. It turned over but nothing. I called recovery who swore it was the fuel lines, although I didn't believe it was. I was towed to the garage and a few theories were offered. We tried it again and the car started, ran for about five minutes then stalled again. We looked at the door light (where the old latch type thing would have been) and it was flashing (it wasn't doing this before!) this meant the ECU had a problem and it was suggested it was having problems recognising the key. We then towed it to Ford, who after putting it on their own diagnostic machine found the fault to be a relay in the ECU. This is the second time it has happened, the same switch replaced twice (out of gaurantee!). It fines fine now.....

My 89-year old father had a stroke last August which affected his peripheral vision in one eye. He has not driven since but the doctor has not actually told him to contact the DVLA or insurance company so my son (who lives nearby) and myself (who live 60 miles away) who are both on the insurance policy have been driving him and my mother around in his car. The renewal has just come up and we had decided that the best thing to do was insure the car in my name with my son as a named driver. This has pushed the premium from £799 with his company to over £1,400. I was told this is because I do not have an NCB with them and that I could transfer my own from my policy but this would evidently affect my own premium. I then contacted another company who informed me that I could not insure my father's car for myself as he is the registered owner and keeper. Please could someone advise what is the best /cheapest course of action to keep the car at my father's address but with my son and myself as the sole drivers. and without this impacting on my own insurance costs. I would add that my own car is a three door and cannot therefore accommodate both of my parents as they are not agile to fit into the back.

Any advice would be immensely appreciated.... Read more

Assuming he is with a mainstream insurer, start by asking them.

Although I am currently trying to get my licence back, I had to surrender it for medical reasons. With the NFU, no problem in me being the owner of my landrover, but the sole driver is my brother. Different addresses - no problem.

Not even a charge to issue a new certificate.

A good real broker ought to be familiar with the situation, but you'll never find a web site that copes in my opinion.

I have had problems with tesco fuel. Was wondering if anyone else has had problems around the end of 2010 or begining of 2011. This has caused lots of problems with my car. Read more

no light was coming on or knock sensor fault. The garage did lots of tests and they all came back clear, there was nothing wrong with the car but still wasn't starting. The garage then emptied the fuel tank and the fuel was stodgy, as soon as the old fuel was taken out and replaced with new fuel the car started.

I have a VW Polo 1.4 TDI, 03 plate, it was running perfectly (good economy, good performance etc.) then it was involved in an accident affecting offside wing/headlight/door. Immediately after the accident the engine was running very poorly - sluggish acceleration, low power etc.. During repair diagnosed P1556 fault but insurer (Direct Line) refusing to accept that this is accident related and therefore refuse to fix the fault.... Read more

Just to let you know the outcome - took the car to an independent VW specialist (C&R Enterprises in Nottingham) and it took them 10 minutes to locate and diagnose the problem - split intercooler and intercooler pipe located front offside - was accident related and Dirct Line have now conceded this - it's a pity they couldn't diagnose the problem themselves - I think the service Direct Line provided was poor to say the least - they happily returned a car to me that wasn't just unfixed - it was also dangerous to drive.

Needless to say I asked C&R to fix the car - and it's now running as it was before the accident.

Hi, I am thinking of part-exchanging my car and would like to retain the reg. plates which I bought for it a couple of years ago. Anybody tell me the process I need to go through for this - is it just a matter of refixing the old plates and informing the DVLA? Read more

fingers crossed

Forgot to mention in my previous post if you don't transfer within 12months you have to pay another £25 to retain the cert. for another year, and if not certain but i think you can keep paying £25 each year till you transfer to a car.

Next June the lease runs out on my company 320D Touring and I will get a car allowance instead.

I have an option to buy the 320, but am being put off by 2 things: long term reliability, eg turbos going etc, and the fact it is no good in the snow.... Read more

My car choice came down to either a new Octavia or a 2nd hand BMW. I had a test drive in a 1.4 TSi with 7-speed DSG, was very impressed by it.

In the end I went with a BMW 520d as I managed to pick one up cheap at auction, I calculate that it'll cost me less overall (depreciation is a big factor). If I hadn't been able to get such a good deal on the BMW then I would have gone with the Octavia....
