Recently bought the jazz off the dealers the abs light lit up took it down the dealer who charged me £40 for the daignosis was told its the abs module that is faulty luckily the car still in warranty and i asked the receptionist to how much it be if the car was out of its warranty was quoted £1132 for it. Ouch !!

My question to backroom readers any one who got a jazz with some problems as i was led to beleive that the jazz was a reliable car.

The warranty going to expire june 2008 and i was quoted £260 with warrantydirect with the wear and tear option, is it worth it? should i extend the warranty?

The car is serviced by the main dealer {slang word deleted} i am paying out a service plan for it basically take the car own and pay nothing for servicing it cos i already paid thru the plan.

I know that the dealer price of the abs module is high just wondering whether the abs module can be bought cheaper than the dealers.

I recently sold a house that we lived for around 20 years. It has a drive way big enough to take two cars side by side and a matching dropped kerb. The house is a semi and there is also ample room to park a car in the street out the front without blocking the driveway.

In 20 years of living there we never had any trouble at all with parking, even with 3 cars in the household.

The new owner (a lady in her late 60's and has been moved in for about 2 weeks) lives on her own and has one car. Speaking with her the other day she said that she was fed up with people parking accross her driveway (she's means people parking outside her house) and is getting the council to extend the dropped kerb to be the full width of the house. This purely to stop people parking outside her house.

To me this is just a selfish way of stopping anyone parking outside the house. I guess the 'older generation' are just as ignorant and selfish as anyone else. Read more

Hi I have a 2001 Peugeot 306 Meridian that has the airbag light on - it just stays on and doesn't even flicker. I have removed the seats and checked all the wiring underneath for loose connections , removed the steering column shroud and checked the wiring there also (with battery disconnected!)
I can't get the car to a Peugeot garage as the car isn't currently taxed or insured . I can get the airbag control module checked for £60 but i can't find it - any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks again, just tried working the switch,no joy so measured the resistance at the pins - it does vary between the off-on position but whether its within range i have no idea. I would order up a new switch if i could figure out how to get to the back of the passenger airbag to check the wiring first.

Hi.

I know it's been along time since you posted this message, but I will give you an ansver anyway....

I was looking into Google for details of problems with Multitronic gearboxes fitted to Diesel A6 like mine, and I came upon an ongoing discussion back in 2005 that concerned "cold weather and the Multitronic". But I have not found anything in your site which specifies the obvious problem that exists with this otherwise excellent gearbox.
My car car has just turned 100,000 miles since October 2001 and tomorrow it is going back to the Audi agent hopefully to receive another "fix" to the gearbox....this will be its fourth.
From memory the first gearbox was replaced completely after around 30,000 miles, and subsequently it has had at least two input shafts fitted at approx 20,000 mile intervals.
The symptoms are always the same - reluctance to engage drive in the morning, high revs needed to move off, juddering under load and acceleration.
I was told at first (in 2004) that this was a problem that they were unaware of, but from other web-sites I have seen that it is widely understood and there are a variety of fixes offered. One of these involves the fitting of a seven plate clutch instead of the six plate version, another involves replacement of input shaft.
Clearly there was a problem with this gearbox, especially when fitted to the high torque diesel engines...but does anybody know if it has been completely sorted now ??
I am considering another A6 Avant TDI with a Multitronic box....but will it work ??

I had an A6 1.9pd with a multitronic box - I loved it - but I think I was lucky to have passed the car on before any problems appeared. Shame really, the MT box really suited the diesel characteristics in my view. Sorry I can't add much except good luck!

'Er indoors Getz is due it's third service/mot in a couple of weeks. Before I ring the local dealer (who is a multi franchise and has a poor reputation) does anyone have a ballpark figure of what they should be charging. I wouldn't put it past them to try and bump the price up.

The car theoretically has another two years warranty to run, but I bet it's pretty selective in what it covers. Read more

There was a thread going round a while back about 3-4 year old Corsa's requiring engine rebuilds. It seems that the owners that had full Vauxhall main dealer history were being offered much better out of warranty goodwill payments towards repairs than those who did not.......

I was pulled over this morning on the A14 after travelling on the inside lane at a modest 60 mph miniding my own business, with the usual accelerate/brake queue in the outside lane. I was advised by the rather Mr Grumpy PC, who was in said lane, that I was committing an offence by undertaking the cars in the outside lane. I tried to point out that I was merely staying with the flow of traffice in my lane, but as he repeated again 'That I was committing an offence,' I decided that an apology for my behaviour was the better route rather then argue the toss.

With that he basically let me get on with my journey. The point is, if the outside came to a dead stop or slow down as they can and do, do I, on the inside lane, have to abide by his rule, and not 'undertake', and even come to a stop even though my lane ahead is clear. Common sense should be to carry on, unless there is an accident or other problem ahead.

The other thing was that was Mr Plod in just a ratty mood due to the fog/frost/traffic or even missing his morning doughnut? Read more

the officer driving the police car will have noticed someone undertaking him and thought 'cheeky sod', i'm here in a marked police car and he's brazenly undertaking. Graham it would appear did not realise he was doing anything wrong, so didn't think not to do it.

There's a degree of discussion as to whether or not 60mph is within the spirit of queues and slow moving traffic. IMO it is not, although i understand the problems i.e. you're doing 60mph, then the outside lane is doing 50mph, what do you do, slow to 50 or keep going.

The real problem is the berk who goes up the middle lane at 60mph undertaking the outside lane doing their 50mph, then indicates right and pulls into the outside lane, so that everyone sat there is fuming because he's extracted the urine.

Myabe we ahould all undertake and overtake like they do in the States. I never have problems driving over there and suspect that our UK driving skills would have to improve if the mimsers didn't know what angle people would be coming from..i.e they'd be forced to be more aware (in the same fashion they wouldn't dare pull out without looking properly whilst on a de-restricted Autobahn, as there'd be two tons of Bavarias finest up their jacksy at warp factor 5).

I've just bought a Clio that came with only the spare key. I hear Renault keys have a built in immobiliser transponder. I want to buy a new master key (that controls the immobiliser as well as the central locking) but I hear official Renault keys cost around £130.

Are there cheaper places to buy these?

I haven't got the key yet - I'll be going to the dealer tomorrow, with the necessary documents to order the key; the MoT is at the end of the month.

I will have to pay as SWMBO has decided that I lost the previous 2nd key :-)

Ihave a 53 reg 2.0hdi, sw ,se ,that's done 90k miles. when the temperature is below 5degrees it is VERY slow at cranking over.obviously when its been started once it starts again but it still seems to be slow at cranking I had a new battery fitted in august, size 075, I have been back to the shop and had it checked out as ok. when it is really cold I have sometimes to use jump leads from a spare battery but this does not seem to crank it over much quicker (this spare is on a trickle charger just in case) I have fitted new glow plugs also but my thoughts are looking towards the starter motor itself now. how much are they/ and is it an awkward job to fit? is the battery the correct size? all the local battery shop did was gave me a like for like but who knows whether that was the original? any helpful ideas would be appreciated

Hi jayvee,

I have the same problem. My car is not starting after nights or after longer time on a car park. But if it starts once, it is ok all the time. Had few things done already which didn`t helped. Could you tell me, please what starter motor did you fitted? Was is new or used, or re-manufactured? Are they all the same for diesels anyway? Cause I brought one from scrapped car to see if its gonna help. I have a warranty from guys, which allow me to give it back if its not working, but I hope it is going to help... what else it could be? And why starter motor could be the reason of starting problem only when the engine is cold?

Any help will be appreciated,
Best regards
