Hi all concerned I own a2002e39 530d it has 321543 miles to date, I have read these threads with interest, I have had the same symtems, with my car, as I havee said it's couverd 322thou miles, I have done lots of work my self on the car, I have couverd 200,000 miles with this car and enjoyed all of them, so to put you all at rest is the tank pump is the fault, I'll explain, my car when I purchase it had a fault, the car would run out of fuel just bellow 1/4 tank of Deisel, so I take out back seat ect, and down to the two tank openings,ie floats in the tank, my pump side float was knot seated correctly in tank, so disconnected pump give clean then reseat the electric lift pump never failed since, and another thread, if you own the manual shift 530d e39 model they don't have the swerl flaps only auto box.

Any experiences with the 2.0d V50 to share? My in-laws have been car hunting and looking for a reasonable sized estate. They've found one of these in a local Volvo dealer, and they both like it a lot.

They do piffling mileage, and really should be going petrol, but my father-in-law has always driven diesels, will always drive diesels, and really there's no point even going there. We've done the discussion to death, and a diesel it will be.

AFAIK, this is the same PSA/Ford engine as used in the new Mondeo / S-Max / Focus, and the Pug 307/407. Is that correct? I know a few people with high mileage examples of these engines (in different cars) that have had no issues at all, so if it is the same engine, I'm happy.

I am very concerned about the DPF on the Euro IV models - they do a lot of short journeys. Is this the type that needs a regular blast to clear it out, or is it the fluid based system? If there's any worries on this, we'll try and find a Euro III model.

Anything else to look out for?

Cheers

NO low pressure fuel pump on those cars fuel line goes straight into the fuel filter and straight into the HD pump from there ao if the computer aint showing any faults its down to a faulty fuel line its drowing air from somewhere and when the car is not running it lets go of the fuel and lets it back into yhe tank so non starting in the mornings will be down to that taking fuel up to the hd pump easily checked though, there is a clear line from the filter to the hd pump and the fuel flow is clearly visible if you can see stationary fuel at the down curve of the pipe and air infront and back of it voila there is your problem

Hi all,

I have a problem with a Passat that some of you helped with previously, however it still exists and the garage have no idea where to go next.

To recap on the problem. I have a 2002 Passat 1.9 TDi 130 bhp, AWX engine code.

Intermittently (4 times in the past 4000 miles) the car loses a large amount of power, mainly struggling in 3 or 4 th gear. With the gas fully down in second there's no acceleration until around 4000 revs. Then its only a little boost.

Diagnostics so far:
Previously I have been able to resolve the issue by turning the engine off. Opening the fuel cap to allow air into the tnk and starting the engine. However it hasn't work this time.

The car has gone into the garage and they found a fault code:

17964 - Charge Pressure - Negative deviation in Turbocharger wastgate regulator valve.

The garage removed the hose leading into the regulator. They said it had a leak on the hose and replaced it. They also checked the voltage and impedance on the unit it connected into - they read 12.34 volts and 16 ohm so in range for the device. Next they deleted the code and tried the car out - still no acceleration.

The garage are now confused and not sure what to do next. Its been to two garages, one wanted to do a compression test as they felt it was misfiring. THe car does judder and jump when stationary indicating a missfire. However the second garage believe the misfire is due to this negative pressure.

On a side line when starting the car from cold a large amount of white smoke, smelling strongly of diesel (not oil) comes form the exhaust. Its enough to cloud the view in the rear mirror. It only happens on first startup from cold.

Any thoughts anyone? I've seen that some people on here have the same problem and are talking about a N75 - is that the unit I mentioned above??
thanks for all your help.
Richard

Hi, i had engine light come on and so went to garage and had fault codes read. Car is fine from start up until reach 67-68 mph then lose all power. power is not regained until have switch engine off and then on again. power loss is everytime hit that mph, if keep under that mph from startup the car has all the power available all of the time. Car is a 2004 audi a4 1.9tdi. this is the one which the seperate grilles not the big one piece grille of the later cars.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

P0243 Turbo wastegate solenoid (A)
P0401 Exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient detected
P0299 Turbo under boost

update.

I went out in car earlier and it was fine on way there but on way back about 50 mph went into low power condition thingy.
It feels like no turbo. Turbo definanately working before fault thingy. Turbo no go??? after fault thingy has happened. feels like n/a engine Read more

In view of your low boost; check that the EGR valve isn't stuck open.

With a boot full of camping gear and 4 bikes on the towbar rack, my lancer estate sits down noticeably at the rear (just occasionally I miss my old Xantia which would just pump itself up a glide away). The ideal would be to fit self levelling suspension but I've no doubt it would be prohibitively expensive, even I could find a supplier. I've come across a product on ebay called a spring assister, which seems to be a rubber packer that you wind into the coil. has anyone used such a thing and are they any good ?

The problem with those types is that they seem to need to sit inside the spring and don't work with a lot of the modern strut type suspensions.

I have the number plate "9 TU" and was hoping to trace the history of it.

DVLA are getting back to me, but did not seem very positive.

All I have found so far is that it was issued sometime between 1925 and 1945 at "Chester A" licencing centre.

A few people have said it may be ex-Rolls-Royce, but although I know Rolls had a few TU plates, I have not found any evidence to suggest they owned this one.

So my questions are hasanyone tried to get the history of their plates and is their some kind of plate spotters forum that may have some info that could help me.

NB:
1) It is not for sale!
2) The number has been on all sorts of cars since I got it, so it is annoying that anyone can check the car it is on currently from the Autotrader website for free - especially as it is on a humble Vectra at the moment! I can't see what benefit giving that information freely has, apart from allowing my ex-wife to see what car I am currently driving. Read more

Can anyone answer why I keep seeing more and more of these style of plates?

I thought white letters on black plates were illegal on cars over a certain age or have the rules changed. Read more
