Does anyone know if you can bumpstart a petrol lawnmower ?
If so then how ??

Friend of mine has started selling fuel efficiency magnets which are placed around the fuel pipe and supposedly improve fuel consumption and possibly performance. Have any BRers tried or run with these fitted? And if so what were the results? I'm sceptical as to the claims but can see some logic in what is supposed to happen to the fuel particles as they run past the magnets. Thing is, does the reorganisation of said particles really make any difference to combustion efficiency? Read more

Hi Guys,
Couple days ago I had an "Anti Pollution" message in my 54 reg car. Since then my friend has read OBD codes which were P2408-Fuel Cap Sensor and P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit Low. Does any one know what do I have to do in order to fix these problems (apart from going to a dealer)? Or at least where the above can be located?
Thanks,
Bob Read more
Hi,
found this thread thro goggle.
i have a similar issue on my 2005 307 1.6 HDi 110bhp.
Can the magnets on the cap be visually checked?
and Where is the fuel cap sensor?
Has anyone any detailed info about the prohibition on Kuga sales?
I'm told that Ford have banned the supply of all models, even those that have been paid for and are already at the dealers, due to insuperable problems with the DPF blocking.
Any owners come across this? Read more
The engines you refer to comply with Euro IV but the addition of a DPF
helps collect diesel particulates and then safely vaporises them whereas a Euro IV without a
DPF chucks the particulates out of the exhaust and anyone can breath them in which
in turn can cause/aggravate health/lung conditions.
Can I comment here that much of the health concerns of diesel particulate matter (PM) relate back to studies done in American cities in the 1950's / 1960's. PM production in the modern diesel car is only a tiny percentage of what was happening 40 to 50 years ago.
Even a Euro III engine is producing far less PM than previous generations. My Mk3 Mondeo TDCi is Euro IV, but thankfully without a DPF.
I therefore question arguments that rely on the extrapolation of 50 year old data, when so much has changed.
I am having a problem with a new car I have bought. When I bought the car it only had one key fob and a key. I recently purchased another key fob so my wife can has her own set rather than have just a key. I have managed to program the immobiliser no problem but when programming the central locking it knocks out the programming in the other fob for example when programming the new key this works fine but then the orignal key doesn't operate. My questions are can you have more than one keyfob per car and has anyone else ever come across the problem and if so how did you solve it?
Thanks. Read more
Is this any help?

Has anyone had/got any experience of using a diesel power/torque tuning product in their turbo diesel engined motor ?
If so what is your experience of these products regarding economy, performance, and ease of installation and setting up ?
Two examples of companies providing such products are included below. Comments about their products and similar products would be most welcome.

My tornado red 99 model Passat estate seems to be developing patches where the lacquer coat is peeling off lin small random patches leaving the paint underneath exposed. Does anyone know what causes this, how I can stop it happening and is it easy to spray new lacquer coat over the damaged patches or is there some special preparation/repair needed? Read more
I know it's a while since you posted on this thread but I have the same problem with lacquer peeling and wondered if you had manage to repair it without having to respray the full panel?
Any help or advice would be appreciated....
I am considering buying the following 1999 T Reg MERCEDES-BENZ CLK 320 Sport 2dr Auto 97,000 miles and would appreciate any advice. Is it too old, likely to be worn out, ready for the scrap heap? The price appears fair compared to Autotrader Valuations and I am keen to have something a little less boxy now that the family can be carted from Scouts to Football in the MPV. Any pointers gratefully received, may save me making yet another bad purchase. Read more
Wise descision Noddy, the gearbox oil and filetr changes are vital on MB's.
Well done for finding that problem on the test drive, if you hadn't had it ticking over doing your inspection it may not have got warm enough to show up a problem.
Could be a couple of thousand's worth of repairs there, wonder if the services over the last 4 years actually included checking levels, let alone changing oils.
If they change the gearbox oil, it may still be ok for the time being.
So i'd expect a pestering from that salesman in due course.
Some MB models had a valeo radiator problem where the coolant would end up in the gearbox, totally wrecking it, you would be well advised to check with a good MB indy as to which models to look out for.
Please Help! - I've just changed my diesel engine for another second hand unit and I can't get it to start.
the car does not have a "chipped" key (not had one since i've owned it). Does it still need matching ti the ECU and if so how.

All UK Fords since about 1995 have had the PATS immobiliser system (chip key). If you have the key with the lock/unlock buttons, you can't see the chip (it's inside). The other keys have a blue or red square in the end where the keyring loop is. The TDDi uses an electronically controlled injection pump which I believe requires coding to the car (or vice versa). I seem to recall reading this in the Haynes manual for the Fiesta mkIV which also used this engine. As Screwloose asked, it's important to know if you swapped the injection pump and other ancillaries over from the old engine. Cheers DP
DP you sound like the person I need to speak to.
I bought a 2000 focus tddi cl in november 2010 and has lots of starting problems with it. As the weather was very cold and we'd been told that glow plugs needed changing we had no reason to think it was more than that as it runs so well but after changing glow plugs we still have an intermittent starting-from-warm problem. It's starts perfectly from cold but every now and again (less since we changed the battery) it turns over for about 30 - 40 seconds before it fires up and then we get a big cloud of white smoke which stinks of diesel. I had thought maybe it was an immobiliser issue but without the owner's handbook I wasn't sure what was what. Now I have a handbook I'm thinking maybe not and then I read your message about the injection pump, and I know that this motor had a new injection pump not long before we bought it. The guy we bought it off said he had a mechanic friend who got one cheap and fitted it for him. So maybe we have this coding isssue? Do you know if this could cause an intermittent problem and can it be sorted out easily?...

My cheap £99 B&S powered 'Sovereign' mower (made by Husqvarna according to the plate underneath it) will start first pull every time. Sometimes it runs for a second and stops, in which case, another push of the primer and one more pull gets it going again. Has never needed more than two pulls. My neighbour has an all singing, all dancing £400 job and he seems to spend more time fettling and tinkering to get it going than I spend mowing the entire lawn. Smug satisfaction. :-)
