Vivaro Van 2005 - 78000 miles.

Van has no power below approx. 2400 revs in any gear.

Is a real struggle to get it going from cold. Things improve slightly when it warms up.

As soon as it gets to 2400 revs it goes like a rocket.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

TIA

Just want to thank Jon Terry for this..
My symptoms were...
1. Occasionally on the motorway the glow plug light would come on and I would lose power. I could clear the light by sticking my clutch in, letting the Revs drop to idle then the light would clear, put my foot down and carry on. No engine management light would remain on and there were no fault codes stored.
2. Also occasionally if I was stationary and put my foot down the van rev but hesitate between 2/3000 rpm.
3. Finally something more significant happened. I went to take the van out one morning and there was a distinct lack of power and the van wouldn’t rev more than 2000. Effectively in a limp home mode. However, under no load, ie sat in neutral the van would eventually rev past 2000 and on through the rev range.

Solution...

Tried unplugging the MAF and the van under no load revved much like point two detailed above. Took it out for a spin and it drove sort of normal. This was much better than point three so went and got a new MAF. To hopefully improve on the situation. Basically, the new MAF transformed the van! Ran like a dream and finally with ALL the power back! The MAF must have been failing over time as I can’t remeber the van with this much power!

Again, thanks Jon! £58 instead of throwing good money after bad and my vans sorted!

Hi,

I recently had my 120d M Sport serviced by a non-BMW dealer but they were not able to reset the OBC to alter the service indicator. I have since spoken to BMW about this an they have told me I need to make a booking and take it in so they can update it- at a cost of course! Just wondering if anyone knows how to change the settings and can offer advice so I can change the service indicator myself in hope that it will fall in line with my recent service and log book?

Many thanks for any help offered:)

I run a BMW and my son has two nothing complex about them no diffrent to any other modern diesel or petrol.Go onto the BMW forums and you will soon pick up all the shortcuts and how to bits you will also learn to stay away from BMW main agents they are as about as good as Fiat used to be there are plenty of good specialist garages about.

I've had my first diesel for four months (Lexus IS 220d) . I see a lot of guys use diesel fuel additives, at the car first service I asked the service manager about using one, and he advised against it.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Maxy

I've had the Lexus for 4 months and so far I'm still looking forward to driving it, I got the SE model with has the leather heated seats which are very good. The gear box takes some geting use to (to big step between 2 and 3 see HJ review) but other than that I'm very taken with it.
I also got the multimedia option (£2700) but really very good, all the toys (satnav ac dvd/cd bluetooth) are controled from a 7in screen by touch.

Yes, I do warfarin too - and alcohol plays havoc with it as can the other thigns like greens. I'd sooner go without the drink and be safe (or safer) from a blinking stroke, that's for sure.

I've been checking out the DVLA site on medical forms, and they are stringent. It looks like all one can do is tell 'em the truth and hope they say it's ok to drive. If they say it isn't, then maybe that's a good thing too....

Hello All.
I was the proud owner of a Mazda6 TS2 until Monday Afternoon. 03 Plate 5Speed Diesel. 55k miles.

The oil warning light cam on less than a mile from home.
I stopped and checked the oil level (after waiting the precribed 5 minutes in the manual)
Oil was fine. restarted engine and got within 100 feet of home when dash lit up like a christmas tree and the engine cut out.

I got the RAC to take it to local Mazda who have just reported:
Engine siezed, oil pump problem £6000 please.

Is this related in anyway to this thread and do I have any amunition to get this fixed by Mazda (preferably for nothing!)

Many thanks

David Hill.

You may have to take a chance on the turbo - good luck!

Loss-of power isn't the typical symptom of suction valves; that idle issues. However....

We ('er indoors and I) are motoring to Cornwall on Saturday from Esher, Surrey to St Ives via Lostwithiel.

Assuming we use M3, A30 and A303, where would be a good spot to stop for breakfast after about 3 hours driving? Little chef would do at a pinch and I don't mind a clean and tidy transport caff.

Any suggestions please? Read more

>>Solstice Park, opened not long ago, just to the East of Stonehenge IIRC, which has a Harvester, Pizza Hut and KFC<<

Doesn't that sound just the most depressing place imaginable in a setting that should, more than most places in Britain, be inspiring the imagination? And to call it Solstice Park is an affront.

At the age of nearly 51 I'm giving up doctoring on health grounds, taking a medical retirement and then will look for a low stress job.
I actually enjoy driving and even in a city environment I still find it relaxing, so this is the area I will be looking for work.
Employers ask for a "clean driving licence". Does this mean no prosecutions showing from any point in time or just no current prosecutions? I ask because I still have my old pink licence and I have speeding prosecutions from 1991 and May 2003. I don't know whether it would be worth getting a new photocard licence after May this year or if I should just stick to the old pink licence.
There's no rush as I don't need work just now but will in the near future to stop me going bonkers from boredom. Read more

I'm surprised that insurers are even allowed to ask about convictions up to 5 years
old though - given that the Rehabilitation of Offenders act means that the 5 year
period could include 'spent' convictions (including my old DD conviction).

The Rehab of Offenders Act gives the offender the right not to mention a spent conviction, it doesn't stop anyone asking a question.

Have you any convictions? No, you reply, knowing fine well that daft shoplifting offence you did as a kid during the lunch break at school is long since spent.

However, the question: Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence, spent or not? is a bit harder to answer.

I've seen it used on forms for so-called sensitive posts such as a prison visitor.

Reading this thread gives me vertigo. Just last week helped daughter buy 54 plate, 98000 mile Vivaro. Is it possible to filter out all the bad posts and just keep the good ones before I show her how clever I am or should I just hide the laptop.Cheers Colin S

I beg to differ my 02 plate has the eac fail come up after it's been raining and stationary but only comes up when I press the brake peddle and not the throttle.when I switch the engine off it won't start again but after 5-8 hours later when it's dry it's starts and goes fine,do you know the cause of this fault and will the engine ever cut out on me say for instance I'm stuck in traffic etc as I use my car for work in the evening and traffic is bad
