June 2008
Hi.
My 2.0 zetec mondeo died as I was driving it into drive and when I checked it out it seems there is no spark. I have replaced the coil pack but to no availe. I am now looking for a wiring schematic of the ecu to trace any faults in the wiring loom of ecu.
Has anybody had this problem before.
Thanks

Haven't seen anybody else post this: From 1 July 2008 it will also be obligatory to carry in all vehicles a warning triangle and reflective jacket for use in case of a breakdown. Anyone found to not be complying with this requirement could be subject to a fine of 90 euros.

Reported in local papers in Spain that it's likely the spare bulbs requirement is going to be dropped - because modern cars make it too difficult for owners to change the bulbs. Also the requirement to carry proof of payment for insurance will be dropped as police now have ready access to insurers' database (although a lot of Lloyds underwriters used by expats are not included).
Front passenger electric window is not working. The window opened but did not close. The drivers side electric window works okay as do the other electrics. My understanding is that a single fuze controls both windows so it isn't that.
I was hoping to take a look myself, but for starters I don't know how to get the door panel off. There are three screws on the outside edge of the door that I can see and three more around the lock. I would be grateful if anyone could help-
1) How can I get the door panel off
2) My suspicion is that the electric window motor is burnt out - how likely is that
3) Is this a common fault with the C-Max?
Any help much appreciated. Read more
Thanks
I'll try that tomorrow.
Hi
I've just had my battery disconnected for 30 mins whilst I cleaned some contacts under the seat for the air-bag system but when I re-connected it I now have a very strange fault (air bag light fault cured). When I turn the key on, the speedometer and rev counter dials rortate clockwise to maximum (with the engine off)
I just tried driving the car to see if that would reset things but noticed that the trip meter was advancing at a very high rate and, after about 2 miles noticed that about 25000 miles has been added to my odometer reading.
I'm suspected that the ECU has ""glitched", so disconneted the power again for abouit a minute and re-connected. The problem remained
Can anyone advise on this fault and also advise if, assuming the ECU is faulty, will the odometer reading as of earlier today on be stored somewhere so it can be reset to the corect value when this problem is cured, or am I now stuck with a very high (false) ododmeter reading) (which will kepp increasing a high rate until the problme is cured.
Any help appreciated - MOT due in about a month !!!! Read more
This was one of the (many) faults I had on my old company owned 406 HDi. The needles would "flicker" between zero and maximum (or any point in between) when stationary, and miles would be wound on to the odometer. I did OK on fuel expenses for a while out of it though ;-)
It was fixed by replacing the instrument cluster (Pug dealer). Mileage was the same on the new cluster as the old one, so there is a way of doing it. I wouldn't claim to know how though.

I have recentlybought a second hand scenic with the 2.0 petrol engine. In between obtaining a Haynes manual and recieving the registration document the cambelt did something bad!I had not long contacted the Renault dealerships to find that the belt was last changed at 89,000,and that it would not need a further change until it reached 161,000.But alas although I was going to change it earlier,it was too late.On investigation, after removing the cambelt covers I found a small piece of the auxiliary belt (which had shredded its outer edge) inside. This led to the crankshaft sprocket slipping somehow 120 deg.I was amazed to find the sprocket does not have a woodruff key inserted, which on all the previous cars I've owned seem to have.Apparently, according to the garage that will be carrying out the repair its becoming more the norm to not fit keys in the keyways.I'm worried it could happen again some time.Is there anyone out there who would suggest fitting a keyway.......
Incidentally, how the piece of auxiliary belt got in goodness knows. All the covers were in place, and no holes.

Yes expensive but 110% sound.
Referring to taper fit hubs, sprockets etc some cars used to (and other applications in industry) had taper shaft to hub and woodruff key as well. I had one on a half shaft on a 1950's car, needed about 20 tons on a press and heat to shift it. Went with a bang like a six pound field gun and it was not rusty either....
Hi all!
Any of you outhere tow with a Mazda5 ts2? If so would lik to hear your comments/experiences with towing caravans and what weights you tow with the mazda.

Hi all! many thanks for your input, much appreciated!Since I last posted,I have taken delivery of the mazda 5 ts2 2.0lt petrol 146bhp 08 facelift model and completed the 600 miles "running in" they recommend if you plan on towing.I have been assured by the dealer that the tyre probs experienced on previous models was due to tracking probs which have now been rectified on the facelift model. There is something else I would like to ask though....I do alot of vanning without EHU and carry a generator along with all the other ususal stuff in the boot when I tow the van.I have been advised that I might need spring assisters as the suspension can be a little soft and prone to wallowing. Is this the case and if so,what size would I need?I know I would have to measure the "gap" when the car is raised but as I am disabled this is impossible for me to do.

Squares of thick coarse brown paper inside packaging for metal parts, tools, brake shoes etc.... I think these were the predecessor of silica gel sachets.
Also, some things used to be completely wrapped in a waxy brown paper which had a distinctive waxy smell.
My offside rear door does not unlock when the central locking is operated. Other doors ,bootlock and fuel filler cover locks all work fine. I can hear the electric lock operate on the rear door when the central locking key is pressed. Unfortunately the childproof tab was in operation when this fault started , so the door is immovable. I can probably take off the trim from within the car, so can the childproof feature be cancelled from within the door? At least, I could then open the door from within the car.,

Many thanks, eleckie for your reply. I'm on holiday in France ,close to Toulouse so I'm short on tools.I may have to leave things as they are until I get back home, but you've given me fresh heart! I'll let you know with another post how things have gone when I get back next month. Thanks
I went over a nasty pot hole on Sunday, and there are two 'dents' in the wheel rim, where the rim has been folder back. Each is about 3" long. Does anyone know if
a) There is any safety issue.
b) Any MOT implications?
c) How to claim for repairs from the council, and if it can be done at the next service for convenience? I guess I need to report the pot hole, which is huge, and in a country road.
Thanks. Read more
Actually L'escargot, that's quite a common practice. Friend of mine works for the highways dept of the local council and when a report comes in of a pot hole on a major road they go out and do just that as it saves having to close at least one lane the road to make the repair.
Hi team,
Had a bit of a scare this weekend when the red warning light over the temperature gauge and the 'STOP' signal on the dashboard started flashing at me. The thermometer shows nothing out of the ordinary - 90 degrees or so - but I've topped up the oil and the coolant (ie water). It seemed to help for a while but then the same thing started happening again, but intermittently. Turning on the ventilators seems to help (bizarrely) and I wonder if it's a short circuit somewhere in the engine management system?
One other thing - the seatbelt sign is constantly on. Not a big problem but a bit irritating.
Any clues? The car's driving fine other than those things.
Cheers,
Josh

Could that mean the airbags might not work?
Correct. Usual problem with this and other French cars is the electrical connector underneath the seats for the seat belt pre-tensioners. See the latter part of the following thread for more info.

ok thanks for all your help. Am not sure wheather to repair car or scrap it now as I will need to replace coil pack and ecu and then have it recoded. The sparky said that the car would run for around 2 seconds with a replacement ecu until it was correctly coded. I don't know if it is possible to get the ecu, key, ignition barrel and transponder out of the same vehicle which would save me having to get everything recoded.
The sparky also said it had to be the exact family tree as well and the one on my car is "OUCH"
OUCH being the correct word
Thankyou all for your kind help
