I've been idly taking notice of which cars last the pace, anything before 05 in good condition is of interest. There seem to be plenty of Volvos but I am pleasantly surprised by the number of Peugeot and Renaults running around. VWs are plentiful too. Read more
I am unconvinced electric cars are the way forward - even with Govt. and Green Lobby support, ceetainly not after the Diesel Drama when we were all encouraged to go Diesel - for me an electric car is the equivallent of the old - fashioned " Milk Float " - great for short distances and local shopping/ school run etc...forget Motorway driving .....imagine being in the depth of winter in a motorway queue with maximum in-car heating and crawling along in ice and snow with your electric car limited to 130 miles of power - no thankyou.....electric cars ....not for me...as a second car...perhaps...

Spot on. While lithium may be much superior to previous battery technologies (and is doing wonders for Bolivia's economy), we desperately need a new storage technology, and not only for cars. We need to be able to store electricity the way we store petrol and water, so that we can save what is generated by wind and solar power, rather than using them for satisfying instant demand. We also need better solar cells - the Sun puts out enough energy every few seconds to power the entire planet for a century, and we need to be able to get and store more of it.
In short, we need a whole new energy infrastructure, and while a march of a thousand miles may indeed begin with the first step, for the planet's sake, we need to start jogging. Imagine what could be accomplished if we'd stop thinking of ingenious new ways of destroying each other and put the R&D effort into energy generation infrastructure.

Hope you can help, I need to know where to report someone who I believe is acting fraudulently in their car buying/selling.
Basically I sold my car to a guy 3 days ago, at first he pretended the car was for himself but it was obvious he was a kerb-side trader. He came equipped with a laptop & dealer-level diagnostic software, asking all kinds of HIGHLY technical questions about the car, most of which I had no idea what they even were.... Read more
KJP123 you couldn't be more wrong. I have NO problem with the deal done money-wise.
My only concern was that at the time, it appeared this guy was either trying to con me regarding the supposedly clocked car, or was trying to sell it on now knowing that it was clocked. Also my concern was him selling on an un-fixed car knowing it had issues,...

Bought my wife (now ex but we still get along) a brand new Seat Ibiza 1.4 TOCA in December ‘13. (63 plate) for £9,300. Not a pre reg, she is first owner. Always been dealer serviced and with their fixed price policy very reasonable. (More on that later).
Just been offered £4,775 through WBAC and after looking on Auto trader many are retraining for £6k+.
The car has been faultless baring a sticking handbrake which I believe is a polo/Ibiza issue.
Just over £900 a year depreciation is pretty good in my eyes.
However Service, Cambelt and two new tyres means the Ibiza will be around for a bit yet.
Took to my local indie (around £700 for all this).
Dealer servicing is a joke. It may be cheap but I think they spend more time cleaning and hoovering it than anything else.
My indie said the rear brakes unlikely to have been looked at since new, they were virtually seized.

Worked alongside a freelancer, who parked his camper van in the staff car park and lived in it for six months.

Morning Mark,
Previous road test videos from you have included way too many silly and childishly embarrassing innuendos, but this car is of interest to me, so I decided to grit my teeth and watch...pleasantly surprised and not by just the car. You managed to resist the temptation to indulge yourself and have therefore made a very watchable piece.
May this long continue.

@mmmmmm's comment above: How incredibly patronising
You know how sometimes you notice a car and you just think 'that looks nice, I could fancy that'? Not talking about supercars here, just something that catches your eye.
This evening, after days of valiantly battling man-flu, I went to my local supermarket for essential supplies. When I went back to my car I noticed nearby a dark grey 04 Jag x type 2.0d. I think it was an SE. I watched as it started up and pulled away. 'That looks nice' I thought appreciatively as it joined the traffic queue, quietly distinctive. I guess that it had done quite a bit lower mileage than mine (182k) and had had a more sheltered life. It seemed to have fewer 'dings'. It appeared to be an older person driving.... Read more
