The New Scientist reports that a Chinese university is working on replacing carbon black in tyres with silica. The new composition enhances the static electricity generated by the tyres in motion and can be collected and used to charge the battery. I think it will be more useful in electric cars. Read more

I have a T registration Toyota Corolla. 1.6 automatic and after taking my car to a body shop to remove all dents, scratches etc and a respray, I was left with my rather battered hub caps, which had to go. I recently bought some 14 inch Aygo hub caps from a Toyota dealer, who were confident they would fit and said they were the only 14 inch ones the had and thy looked good. They did not fit because of the inside of my wheels. I chose these as they look far better than the original old hub caps. Are there 14 inch Toyota hub caps that would fit my wheels. My local garage did say that the inside of modern Toyota's may have changed. Or do you think I'll be stuck with something from eBay with no Toyota centre caps. ?
Thank's for any assistance.... Read more
I've always thrown those things away.

Hi I have a Vauxhall Corsa that was running very badly I have changed the fuel filter. It was very very dirty a lot of black gunk came out. It it now running better at high speed but when I stop at a junction it will not rev again and dies. It restarts very easily and as long as I am reving it it's fine but it will the same at low speed or idling. Also if I start it it fine but if I leave it without reving for a about a minute it will not rev and stops. Any help would be most appreciated cheers. Read more
