Hi

I have some strange problems with my electrics. I bought the car second hand from a main dealer about 4 months ago. I noticed lots of packs of bulbs in the storage space and thought nothing of it, not sure if it's related.... Read more

207s can suffer with poor earth cables, that could be blowing the bulbs.

If the previous owner wasn't a regular on the Pug forums he probably wouldn't know this and would just be throwing new bulbs at the problem.

Looking at 2 Golf 2012 s with a 1.6 TDi diesel engines approx 70,000 miles on clock. Priced around £6,500.

Leaving aside petrol v diesel is there anything to be wary of with these cars. Any advice welcome. Read more

Worth buttons and HGF aside they’re pretty reliable if a bit dated. Actually quite lively to drive though. I’d snap it up if it’s cheap enough. Keep it nice and it’ll only go up in value or at least be depreciation free.

I have a question regarding No Claims Discount. My frustration comes from the way different insurance companies record/report NCD, and how to report it to a new company when you purchase insurance.

I've been driving 20+ years and have never had an at-fault claim (other than a cracked windscreen), always had NCD protection since I was old enough to be offered it.... Read more

So if you have 9 years NCB, and you have a letter from 5 years ago saying you had 9 years of NCB, is that proof of 14 years NCB?

Noticed one of the CV gaiters is chucking a bit of grease around, and the other likely isn't far behind. I'll patch it meantime, but I should have time for a longer term repair during the winter vacation.

I've only ever fitted the split CV replacement gaiters in the past, and they lasted as long as the cars did, but in the UK inspection regime my bangers tended not to last very long.... Read more

I came across an internyet forum recommendation to install split-boots on top of, and without removing, the originals.

I don't think I'd thought of that, and certainly have never done it, but it has a certain belt-and-braces appeal IF the originals are only just starting to fail (so the grease isn't contaminated) and IF there wont be chafe between the two boots leading to premature failure.....

Ok, long story short, Ive bought a 2015, 1.6 Seat Leon, Not an FR, but has the FR seats etc...
Later found out the car was a total write off by insurance in the summer of 2017.
seller uses fake name etc.. so Ive done the rounds and there absolutely nothing I can do.

SO.....

If anyone can help with these problems, I would be very appreciative.

Sat nav, sim missing. Im told by a local Seat dealer they have to install that and put a code in to enable it.
Is this true, I cant just buy one from ebay??

Carpet is damp, and a little mouldy behind drivers seat. There was rattling under the carpet, and Ive ended up puling out over 30 metal cannisters of nitrous oxide, still some rattling about, so as well as there being a bit of a gap already, Ive had to cut it open to pull some out.
What is the best underlay to get for insulation, and which is the best carpet to get. Websites that sell them dont give very good info, and dont respond to emails

Possibly insulation problems causing damp? what should I look for??
There is whistling sound on the passenger front door after 50mph, like the window insulation has a gap.

Heating works better on the passenger side than the driver side. on full heat it is only slightly warm, with a little cold coming through, whereas on the left it feels how it should, fully hot.

Click on the clutch, ive noticed occasionally there is a clicking sound on the clutch when you start the car. goes when you press the clutch a few times. Not done it for a week or so but Im guessing it will at some point

Banging/knocking coming from left wheel on hard right, so when turning on hard right, ie coming out of drive there is a knocking sound/feel from the left front wheel

Engine is overly loud, from the back right it sounds. so drivers side at the back, especially when going around 60/70

Lack of power, there seems to be almost no acceleration after 50.
At 70 Id say acceleration is almost non exsistent.

Windscreen washer not working. Im hoping that is an easy fix.
Well hope it all is obviously.

Front bumper, one of the corners is coming out slightly, as if something it connects to has snapped, any easy fixes i.e. cable tie from the inside? Look like to get to that part you need to go under the wheel arch??

Please explain anything I need to do, in a non car techy way. I dont know hardly anything about cars, and never fixed anything, but anything I can do myself I will. Simply cant afford to pay someone to do everything at the moment.

Thanks in advance for any help Read more

Presumably you bought it without an MOT? What category write off is it, if you bought it really cheap you may have funds to repair the basics. You seem to have put together a fairly comprehensive list of the faults so why did you buy it?

I had two new front tyres on my 08 Volvo V70 and the tracking done on 21st/ /12 /18. I later back checked and found I had two front tyres and tracking done 19/ 02 /18 with 15k or so done with a lot of motorway miles included. Granted tracking is a lottery with all the pot holes but am I justified in having a moan about 15k in ten or so months? Young guy told me 15k is about what to expect 'but these new ones should last 25K' Read more

I take the traffic calming cushions as they were intended, at 20mph

Some cannot take them at 20mph and it depends on the angle of the cushions so between the two its never certain unless you know them what speed you can go over them...

Just wanted to share a link to this guy on youtube who is restoring an old Lotus Esprit S2. He has videos for other vehicles restorations also but it was the Esprit that initially landed me on his page.

This is not just the usual run of the mill youtube fare, but a series of highly professional, visually stunning videos providing a detailed, step by step explanation of the guys restoration approach and experiences featuring extensive use of close up, stop/go time elapse photography sequences....
