I have been trying to figure out this problem from long time but haven't been able to

We presume in this doom scenario that it's now beyond our wit to actually make products which our own people will want to buy, i don't think it is.

In the case of cars there are excellent factories turning out well made cars in this country, the designs may not be to everyone's tatse, but that isn't the fault of the people in the factories actually producing the things, a Burnaston built Toyota i would suggest can stand alongside any Japanese produced Toyota in terms of build quality...and both will be streets ahead of German products in reliability and durability....

I have been having a discussion over the last few week with regards Green Mould in your interior http://www.valetingcars.co.uk/mould-removal/

Over the last few weeks i have completed a couple of vehicles with very heavy mould spores where both vehicles have been stood for over 12 months..... Read more

Its not so much the mould on the seats & seat belts, its the dashboard i was concerned about.

By all accounts the dashboard now need re-colouring to put it back into a reasonable condition....

I went to look at a second hand Mercedes last year. The 'leather' on the driver's seat was in a dreadful state. The only advantage I can think of for having leather seats in a luxury car is that they should be more resistant to wear.

Peugeot 5008 1.6 HDi.

Filled it up with diesel - drove for about 1 mile then the car seemed to go into some sort of limp mode as I drove up a little hill. No warning lights.

Pulled over on the level. Turned ignition off and on - and everything then seemed OK.

Plugged in a basic OBD2 scanner a short while later and couldn't find any stored or pending codes.

Any ideas?

Bad diesel? Or could it be that overfilling the tank + going up a hill messed up the EVAP system? Does a diesel like this even have an EVAP system to mess up? Read more

It's been main dealer serviced to schedule.

It definitely had a new fuel filter about 17,000 miles ago during 2016 service - schedule says 1.6 HDi only needs a diesel fuel filter every 25,000 miles....

It does sound like clutch/flywheel/thrust bearing problem.

The only other issue could be, and this is almost impossibly unlikely so don't get worried, is worn thrust washers on the engine main bearings, i've actually seen them so worn that when the clutch was pressed you could see the crank pulley move forward slightly at the other end of the engine...but as i said the chances of this are minute....

Diagbox is the best tool for the job, its all about how you use it. Get the paramters read on every part of the ECU.

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of buying my first car and am pretty anxious about getting sold something crap. I have found a VW Polo 1.4 TDI 70 PS Match PD from 2009 (45,000 miles) for £4,500, which I feel is a correct price. The MOT history seems ok, but the road tax has expired since January this year (two months ago). Does it mean the car has been on sale since that time and that I should avoid it, or does it not necessarily mean there is something wrong with it?... Read more

Condition matters more than make and model, but if I were you I'd be looking at the Toyota Yaris (the 1.3 is a lot livelier than the 1.0). As advised above, Japanese or Korean and petrol-powered is the way to go, but nothing soldiers on quite as well as an old Toyota. A Corolla or Auris will be fine too, if that's not too big a car for you.

Avoid any semi-automatic transission on these and stick to the manual.

I need to replace the thermostat on my 1995 1L Nissian Micra. I haven't replaced a thermostat for a few years and was wondering what type of replacment gasket is generally used these days? Euro Car Parts, tell me the thermostat isn't supplied with a new gasket and they are unable to supply a seperate gasket. Is some sort of "instant gasket" widely used now ( I have no experiance of using it) or can somebody suggest where I could obtain a replacement gasket?

Thank you for any useful help and advise. Read more

Having been informed by someone on the foram on "MSC" about "nissan4u.com", I have found this: If the information on "nissan4u.com" is to be be believed, looking at the diagram of the thermostat for my 1995 1L (link below), it would seem the thermostat was fitted using "Gasket-liquid" from new and it had a Gates thermostat (part no: 2120099B03) with an opening temperature of 82'. I haven't found an hour to pull the thermostat out and replace it, but this information may prove useful.

Looking to change SWMBO's LR Evoque which has has just passed it's 5th birthday. She loves the car, but new petrol versions are north of £40K, (looking to get out of diesel due to both recent developments and change in use which has resulted in much lower annual mileage).

The 1.4 petrol Q3 looks to fit the bill and is in the right price bracket (~£30K). I'm asking for feedback on any actual owners on here please (or other suggestions), we will be buying new.... Read more

I don't get it either Avant.

The way cars are built today it really can't take much effort to change the spec. to allow an entry level petrol. No doubt someone will have a "clever" algorithm which says they have a lot more diesels to shift before such a time arrives? But even then with all the JIT manufacturing you wouldn't think this would matter?
