I got an invitation to a Jaguar driving event to introduce the E-Pace - before I'd ordered the Audi, but I thought it would be fun to go along anyway, as it was not far from home, at Thruxton.
It was a very well-organised event, which included a road drive, a track session and a 'dynamic' session involving parking, skidpan and slalom testing. So plenty of opportubity to get to know the E-Pace.... Read more
What would've been very useful is for the list above to contain details about petrol-engined cars of similar performance to compare them (I'm coming at this as an woner of a petrol-engined car), to keep it fair.
It would also be useful for the information to include the levels of all pollutants, especially the regulated ones, including CO2, perhaps (as far as possible) with a rating (weighed) for each so that the worst polluting for health and the environment were given higher precedence. Read more
It has been my supsicion for some time that if you take into account the pollution etc involved in maufacturing (and scrapping) a car (or central heating boiler etc), the "annualised whole life" pollution is such that it is environmentally irresponsible to scrap a "polluting car" part way through its life.
Anyone know any references taht would confirm (or debunk) what is a "suspicion"?
Well what a surprise! EU tests that 'allow' workarounds to rules or vague ones so that, in my opinion, certain manufacturers can sell so-called new-fangled designed cars that are essentially cheap knock-offs of other makes who actually did some R&D, or present warmed over older designs as the latest thing when they aren't. Suprising to see the MG 6 on the list. The petrol engines in these is a further development of the Rover K series, which is now nearing 30 years old. Just goes to show how superior European cars really are.

If you get yourself a thermostat housing gasket first, you could remove the thermostat and replace the housing then take off the hose and put a garden hose into the housing and reverse flush the system after disconnecting the bottom hose first. I would expect to see what looks like sand flowing out. nearly forgot leave the heater turned on. good luck

I can remember having trouble with these before, but not as bad as this. Maybe I'm getting more kack-handed (as well as more bad-tempered) in my declining years.... Read more
It has been rather cold of late. This makes plastic and rubber booth hard and brittle. Gentle heating with a hair drier might help (don't use a paint stripper gun!). Although a paint stripper would certainly have an effect although perhaps not the desired one!
good luck
Hi all,
My beloved Citroen C15 Champ Diesel van (2002 model) began losing water a year ago, but the radiator had an obvious leak. I used K-Seal, which seemed to correct the issue for a while, then the water disappeared again. I bought a new rad, but didn't get around to fitting it before the very cold weather last week.... It's most likely the head gasket, as these things fail for a past time. I'm not sure the gas test will pick up a diesel leak - doesn't it look for CO? If there are bubbles in tank, then I can't see it's anything but the HG. Try this... take the cap off in the morning after the engine has run the night before - is there still pressure there?. Now refit the cap and run the engine for 30s - 1min; shut down and check again. Pressure? Either = yes = HG failed. It's not too hard a job on a non turbo XUD; you will need to get the head skimmed though, and if it's been overheated there's a good chance the head will be scrap.
I have been thiking about changing my bulbs (headlamp / indicator / reversing) on my Golf to brighter lights.
I had though about LED's but note that they appear not to be road legal.... Read more
The worse problem with LED's is people who stick them in number plate lamps, they often show lots of white light to the rear and due to directional brightness are utterly useless for the job in hand.
Apart from that they look wrong, invariably car LED's are in the higher colour band, so a stark white bordering on the blue range...oh and whats with blue sidelight bulbs, is that some layby cruising code or what?...and they look how can i put it 'chavvy' on a car that should have low colour range white lights in line with its year....
I’m looking into getting an Octy 1.4 SEL (or maybe an SE with options), and have prices from some dealers via the online car broker places. I’m looking at 17-18K with PCP (which I’d only be using to get the initial 3K discount, I’m hoping to settle it early on). Or £500 less for the 3.5K trade-in (I think my car qualifies, it was registered right at the end of 09, though I’m not sure it’s a Eu4 or Eu5. It’s worth ~£1000 as a trade-in according to HJ’s valuation, so probably not the best way to go).... Read more
Thanks Skidpan, I've done that too - I was waiting until I had a testdrive before getting into too much with the dealer that carfile have passed me to (I've told them that) - so I'll do it next week once I've crunched the numbers. My old car could be worth 1-2K, but I'd have to get the engine sorted (or priced up) before I sold it on.

Thank you Avant. Had a great time. Really enjoyed rural Portugal. There are a couple of places we intent to rerutn to next year, only for a bit longer next time.
My XC60 has seperate heater/ac controls mounted on the central housing. I can see your point regarding the touch screen. As anyone with an i pad can testify you have to be very dextrous not to engage sites or features you don't want. I can imagine this is difficult whilst driving. Have a look at the Skoda offerings. Iam told the Kodiaq and it's little sister are very good....
