He said avoid the petrol because they were trouble, I'd not realised it was the BMW unit.
Think you will find that BMW used the Peugeot 1600 petrol in the Mini and the 116/316. BMW now use their own 3 cylinder petrol in these.... Read more
Good afternoon. I've just spent an hour on the bus reading Sarah Ed's post and your helpful replies regarding her budget of 1.5k for a car. I'd really appreciate any help, as 2 hours a day I'm trawling through tonnes of cars ending up none the wiser. My mums gifted me some money to purchase a car, I've been looking at mazda, fiesta, focus (and others I’ve deleted since reading) - oh and diesel which I think after reading the thread is a no no although not sure why, but I appreciate your advice.
Whilst I can go up to 4k I don't earn a good wage and I'm worried if something goes wrong the credit card will need to come out - I'm sure I'm still paying for repair work on a corsa from 3 years back! I did get a focus cat d for 12 months off ebay 2 yrs ago for £400 and had it for a year and only cost me £10 for a puncture repair but couldn't afford the new mot. However, it was a good drive I’d still have another – I could actually get my mountain bike in the boot! I'd like low tax, and good mpg. I travel 20 miles return trip to work (10 mw) and the odd trip Leeds, Liverpool etc and I love mw driving. I can patiently wait although the peasant wagon is not good for my back and I need to bring my son home from Leeds uni in 4 months; and although I do work in a doctors I think it’s a tad unethical to go through the deaths/strokes/MIs in the hope there’s a newish car going cheap!... That Civic looks good. Thanks for the update. I get low 40's out of my 2012 Civic 1.8 easily.
Took my Duster in to National Windscreens earlier this week for a tiny w/screen chip to be sorted. At one side of the garage was a 2013 Ford Mondeo, with every window stoved in bar one, which was the backmost small passenger one. It turns out to be a taxi drivers motor & his main bread & butter jobs were the school runs. So the lowlife in the area has taken away his livelyhood for at least 8 weeks or so. The fitter said it had been stood there for 10 days drying out.

There were items which looked like charging points labelled 'Tesla' under polythene covers at Fleet service station today, sign of the times? How long will it take to charge the average electric car and how will battery performance drop off as time goes by? Read more
Question is if we stop refining oil for diesel and petrol will we stop producing other chemicals for many other things including plastics
recyclable or otherwise as no one has mentioned that, only how much electric is used in refining oil ?
I had my car serviced at a Vauxhall main dealer recently and feel a bit cheated.
The car was serviced correctly, on time and to the correct quoted amount (including a 25% discount for owners of older cars). Not only that they fixed a minor fault without charge and washed it for me. I was also given lifts to and from my workplace whilst this was done. The staff were helpful and friendly as well.... Read on a different forum of a user taking their 2 day old 18 plate Vauxhall Crossland back to the Vauxhall dealer for a warranty claim (damaged steering rod, likely done in transit/on transporter), and told to take it to a Citroen dealer who can get the part much faster and who will cover it under warranty as it’s effectively a re-bagged Citroen/Peugeot
Worth adding others on the forum have questioned this and said their Citroen dealer has said this is not at all possible.
Either way, I think it’s a good thing, if it’s more convenient to the customer it should be permitted.
I know of people with Seat cars who use the local Skoda dealer for servicing as they have a far better reputation, VAG have no problem with it in terms of the warranty.
I have one of these here in the Philippines. Cost equivalent of £8.00 and works fine. Had it nearly two years and on 720p resolution the capture is very good on a 23inch monitor. I use a class 10 16GB card which cost £5.00
night time performance is adequate, rather than good, but still enough to read number plates etc, especially in the well lit cities.
They are still on sale here under various names and the average price seems to be £10/12 Read more
How is an AVI file not a normal video format? Windows 10 can play them by default and something like VLC player can play them if you don't want to use what Windows 10 uses.
Ref the question ' Pressing matter'.
The comment about left foot braking on automatics.
Will the automonus city braking prevent a runaway incident where the accelerator is pressed instead of the brake?
I have a Kia Niro with this automonous braking feature, and because the parking/emergency brake is foot operated I do not consider left foot braking an option.

Left foot braking, how do you apply a foot operated parking brake if you stop on a hill and have to do a hill start if you left foot brake. Serious queston as i rented an automatic car recently and it rolled back slightly on a hill when i went from foot brake to parking brake despite it being in drive ?

We bought a 09 mini Cooper s in 2015 and looked after it well, yesterday the engine was leaking out oil and there' a hole..spoke to mechanic who has said we need a new engine, cost in excess of 2k! My question is, we're over half way through our hp agreement which means we can hand the car back, how does it work with them charging us? Will we just need to pay for the repair? Its 9 years old and would have been paid of next September, I'm going to struggle to pay for the repair so feel I haven't got many options? Many thanks in advance Read more
Get it fixed, run it for a year or two, then buy something else more reliable.
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. My car was involved in a crash on eve of 14th feb. My car is a total loss other parties fault but went through my own insurance as I didn’t want to be conned. Anyway they first kept me in the dark that I was entitled to a replacement vehicle it was GAP insurance who told me. Now I was asked to contact ford which I did but I contacted my dealer who said they don’t make ford b max in automatic anymore.
Told insurance when they should’ve been contacted ford finance which I confirmed with ford finance.they are going down the total loss route regardless and not offering me a replacement car claiming it’s hit the 12 month mark anyway but I would say at the time of accident it wasn’t?
What are my rights? I have paid 2000 deposit and won’t get that back neither the one year instalments. I suppose cars lose value anyway. What would you do in this situation complain or start looking for a new car?
Thanks for reading

If you took out GAP insurance then I'm not really sure what you are complaining about. The gap insurance will pay out the difference between what your insurer pays out (the current value), and the price paid for the car. So you won't be losing out at all.
