Is there a free website where I can find out the cost of my car when it was brand new? Read more
With a Kia Seed it's just 5%. Just like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Thats because very few people who actually test drove a petrol Ceed of the vintage you were looking at actually bought one. The engine might have had quite a few BHP but there was very little torque which was at highish revs. On the Top gear test track it seemed to go well enough, on the road in the real world it was even slower and less gutsy that a Mazdo 3 with the 2 litre 122 PS petrol.... Petrol 7 seaters less than 5 years old sell very fast indeed.
Dealers can get full retail price for them, no haggling.
Vauxhall Zafira tourer 1 year ago could be had 12 months old on a 16 plate in the 1.4 petrol or 1.8 petrol for £10999 from most vendors or £10499 if you shopped around.
Now you would struggle to get one today at 1 year old (17 plate) for under £12k
Is that £1k increase down to a reduction in supply, general inflation or increased demand for petrol engines?
Hello.
So i was stopped by the police tonight for speeding, doing 45-50mph in a 30. I was totally honest with them and i did say i was going too fast. They took my details (name, address, registration) asked the usual questions like where i was going and if i had been drinking. They then warned me to watch my speed and to be careful then sent me on my way. Just looking for a little bit of advice as they didn't give me a verbal nip. Should i expect a nip in the post or have i just got off with a warning. Read more

You passed the attitude test as posted above....
Today I looked at the above 3 cars, setting out to never buy another diesel, I found that in some cases, there is still a huge amount of diesel stock either on way from factory or in forecourts, and far less choice if you don't want diesel, slowing demand and plenty of supply means there are deals to be done on those diesels. The Ateca i test drove in 190bhp 2.0 DSG form was really very good. Is buying a 2018 model diesel such a bad thing? Will it be an unsellable anchor in a few years time, are they now clean as we are lead to believe? What's the view.
Hello and thank you all, good points from each of you
Some further thoughts.
Probably change the car in 3 years or so.
Found (at Ford wrt to the Cougar) that when I specced up what I was wanting and they look at new ones already built and coming in (i.e. fairly short lead times), there was only one petrrol but a lot of choice in diesel. Seat (wrt to the Ateca) had more petrols around,
But those who know me know I tend to buy top flight with loads of extras and tend to buy used (less than 1 year old), meaning you get all the toys and creature comforts for about the price of a basic one (new). and you don't suffer the depreciation.
Following that thought for the moment, I could get a fully loaded Ateca 2.0 TDI DSG with all the trimmings (4000 miles on it) for about the same price as a brand new 1st reg to me 1.4 Tsi mid range petrol (manual)

Hello, following the ice and snow on these days the washer seems not to work; whenever I activate the washer, there is no usual noise coming from the pump to indicate that the pump is pushing water into the tubes: in case the motor is broken is there any tutorial on how to replace it? Is it something you can do it by yourself?
thanks for your time... Read more
As above to access pump. Then maybe you can de ice pump and tank with hot water or a hair dryer?

A friend of mine lives in the country.
You can give as many old tyres as you like to the local farmer for free! He uses them to keep the tarpaulins down which cover his winter store of animal feed....

I knew someone who had an early 90s Merc 10 years ago and it ended up failing its MOT because the front wheel assembly was about to go through the bodywork due to corrosion.
Afternoon,
Wounded if you can help. My brother loaded me his Ford Focus St 2008, which has an RS conversion; whilst my discovery is current is off the road, anyway I digress...
Been using his car for a number of weeks However, as we all know the weather hasnt been great and yesterday on my 9 mile journey to the office I was presented with an high temperature warning light. In fairness the warning came within the first 5 miles.
Upon getting to the office i discovered the coolant tank was empty. Thus, filled it and later in the day completed the return jouney. This time however the warning was presented with 1 mile. Completed the journey home and again no collant. Discovered the coolant extended tank was leaking and now replaced this.
Unfortunately, I turned the engine on and guess what within 5 minutes of non driving the high temperature returned. Observation showed the coolant was bubbling and whilst the coolant was just above min at the start it was way over max within minutes (clearly due to pressure); naturally the fans on the engine radiator were on.
Now my issue is I’m at home can’t really take it anywhere and have no breakdown cover. Ford when speaking to them advised of the replacement extended tank but as it stands not sure; they want to pick the car up and effective strip elements of the car... sounding very expensive investigation work.
So has anyone experienced anything similar, can offer thoughts, etc...
Thank you in advance. Read more
I think the answer would be the same whatever the vehicle. The expansion tank or the connections to it have failed because of excessive pressure and pretty much the only source of this would be a blown head gasket between a water way passing through to the head and one of the cylinders. Might not be too bad if you can do it yourself but there is always the worry that the head was or now is warped especially in view of the overheating, plus main bearings and end shells will not have enjoyed the experience. I think it may be time to say goodbye to it.

I use GM every week and have done since June 2017 - used four branches so far.
Never had an issue with them, although do see many many bad reviews of them.

I was just doing some sums to see what sort of discount one could expect from buying a car at auction.
I bought my car in 2006 when it was 3 and a bit years old (ex Motability car) and paid about 41.15% of the new price according to the link above including the buyers fee, of course the new price could vary depending on the dealer who originally sold it....
