I went to a large DIY store this morning to price up some supplies. didn't buy anything... went back in the afternoon to buy some bits, having been elsewhere for other shopping.
Stayed about 15 minutes the first time, and about the same the second time about 4 hours later.... Read more
Took our Accord for a service today at our nearest(French) Honda dealer and got issued an old 1.4 Jazz as a courtesy car (I really wanted a Civic Type R but they aren't that stupid!)
2005 registered ( you get the french V5 with the car as it's the law over here).... Read more
As a newly started trainee salesman back in the 1996 I was amazed by how good some of the old cheapo trade ins were, particularly the old Colts we frequently took in with big mileages which we tended to use as customer loan cars. I’d been used to my parents buying new cars (mostly Volvo’s and Saab’s) that rarely reached 20,000 miles before being part exchanged. It was this experience that put me into bangernomics and a long line of cheap old motors that cost me buttons and provided reliable service.
The pre-heat warning light is on all the time, it has happened before but it did eventually go off.The car maintenance is up to date, Next service due in July. How often do the glow plugs have to be replaced? Also with the light staying on, would this change the engine behaviour? It does sound slightly noisier.
Many thanks in advance. Read more
You will need to get the diagnostics checked. It could be a glow plug fault or something else. There is no exact life span for glow plugs .Get them changed when they fail. There are 4 on this engine.
A combination of irritation of the constant putting down of the honda jazz in particular, not to mention any car with a CVT transmission byt yourself prompted me to make a short video clip to both defend the jazz's honour and prove myself to be speaking the truth (as you clearly don't believe what i say it can do) and uploaded it to YouTube. Unfortunately you will have to time it yourself, but the results are clear enough and speak for themselves. The clip shows the speedometer whilst i accelerate, first from 30-70mph, and then from 50-70mph. I used the timer on my own smartphone just now while watching the clip, and actually made them as being slightly quicker than i originally recorded at about 9.5 seconds 30-70mph and 5.5 50-70mph.
I hope you enjoy it and look forward to your comments.... Read more
I thought the oil usage of earlier TSI engines was resolved when they introduced a mixture of indirect and direct injection?
I had a 2009 Audi A5 with the 2.0TSI for just over 2 years (from used- purchased at two years old) and by the end of my time with it, it drank 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles, which was getting quite pricy! It had done 44k miles when I sold it. I didn't fancy carrying on with that level of oil consumption and it put me off the TSI engines to be honest, which is a shame, because it was a nice thing to drive and considering its power output, and being a Quattro, always gave 35mpg.
I've been loaned the above for the day and for a 15 year old car it's a good advert. All works except an auto adjusting mirror, it was never a car you'd have bought for performance but it makes progress reasonably, the driving position is high which i like. No rust anywhere and it must have had loads of different drivers, the interior is not worn and it shows that you can get an older car which will give good service with little depreciation too. As with all cameras what happens when it rains? You cannot place it in the windscreen wiped areas as this obstructs the view.

My cold start stays on too long in cold weather. I have no problem in starting the car, but even when the temp gauge is moving up smartly and to the centre, it seems the car is on a fast idle at 1000 rpm at idle, off cold start its at circa 800rpm. Even the stop-start refuses to disengage the cold start, yet when I manually with key turn off and on it cuts out the cold start.
This I observed when it is around 3c or lower. otherwise, car runs fine, 55mpg on a run, no misfires or hesitations of any sort. Does the cold start activate the DPF?... Read more
Today, it was 10c in temp, though due to direct sunlight it was at first reading 14c. I started the car and almost no cold start raised rpm was evident.

Hello everybody,
My above vehicle is due for its first service, has done around 12,000 miles. Is it possible that I have a noisy faulty rear (I think) wheel bearing. I seem to hear the familiar whirring sound on a wet and very smooth road surface. Could it just be the type of tyres on the 18"wheels? ... Read more
Feel the outer edge of your tyres, if there is a bit of a sawtooth feel between tread blocks that can produce a wheel bearing sort of a noise...
i am getting no power at fuel delivery pump in tank is there an inertia switch fitted and location please Read more

The no return rule is intended to deal with egregious freeloaders moving cars around. I suspect that if you can show you were legitimately in the store on both ocasions you'll have no problem.
