Can anyone help me? I part exchanged a car with outstanding finance on it, but the part-ex offer more than covered the outstanding finance. My finance company sent a copy of the settlement details to the dealer the deal was they pay the finance off. No probs with the new car or new finance but the dealer hasn't settled the outstanding finance on my old car. If it's not settled in the next few days all the settlement details will change. I (stupidly) cancelled the direct debit as the dealer told me it would only take five days to settle everything. It's now over three weeks they keep fobbing me off. They told me they sent a cheque six days ago but it got returned. They've now told me they've sent another yesterday recorded but won't give me the details and when I argue with them they hang up on me. I don't know where to turn. I feel like they've stolen my car. If the finance is not settled and further payments are not made the loan company will want their money from someone. Since the OP's name is on the agreement it is they the Balifs will come after.

Depending on the type of loan they may even go after the new owner of the car since they still have a financial interest in it....

Are there ay issues with a 3 series (petrol) from 2006/2007? I have 6k to spend on an estate and can either go 2010 Mazda, Ford, Toyota or 2007 BMW.

Is there any benefit to BMW? I know a lot of people have them and in searches tere seems to be a lot with high mialage which suggests they last... Read more

“The 6-cylinder petrols are hardly a paragon of reliability. Vanos seals go (expensive), cam sensors, oil leaks, failed cooling system and blown headgaskets not uncommon on them at all.” Agree totally, BMW’s are far from the most robust vehicles on the road. I wouldn’t buy one with my own cash unless it’s an old (preferably pre vanos 6cyl) E36,E34 or E39.

Older son has a 2003 E46 318i.

Apart form 1 coil pack and rebuild of entire braking system it has been OK, Only 90k miles now tho and little used.

Hi All

I'm having some problems with my car and would be really grateful for any input. Hopefully someone might have experienced the same thing, have ideas of what it might be or know a cheaper way to go about fixing it.... Read more

Do both sides of the car - viewed from the front appear level?

A broken FRONT coil spring could lead to one side being slightly lower and driveshaft or suspension fouling in reverse....

My MK7 Fiesta 1.25 is fitted with 195/50 R15 tyres (by Ford). The factory fitted spare wheel is 175/65 R14. The spare wheel isn't a space saver.

However as the spare wheel isn't the same as the other wheels it's subject to a 50mph speed restriction when fitted. There is yellow sticker on the wheel to indicate this speed restriction.

Hi,

I have a DS DS5 (not branded as Citroen) powered by a 2.0 BlueHDi 180 diesel with a 6 speed auto. It's a 65 plate with 17k on the clock. I got it three months ago and have put 3k on it. It does regular short journeys and as such doesn't get up to temperature. However it often gets good long runs at speed, the last being 500 miles over Christmas up to Aberdeen and back. I've always filled it up with Shell V-Power Diesel.... Read more

The ECU probably forced a regen procedure. My two Volve V60s used to do this sometimes: they would initiate a regeneration after driving just two miles or so in urban traffic, when the coolant temp was still low. This would only happen after a couple of weeks of short run of less than 5 miles.

I know the usual advice is that 'active' regenerations only occur when the engine is up to temp, at certain speed / load conditions etc, but in my experience the car's ECU seems to decide when it needs to do a regen, and will do so even if the ideal conditions are not met.

Hi - looking at a Mazda 6 after a reccomendation from someone on honest john (family of 4 need something bigger and was advised against SUV's).

I like the Look of the Mazda 6 and happy with what I can get for my budget - around 5-6k.

There is one I have seen - 2011, £5k, 85,000 miles, only 1 former keeper.

However the MOT history looks a little odd..the first MOT in 2014 was clocked at 72k; thereafter it's only done 3k every year....... Read more

“MX5s have come - rotted - and gone. I hope it lasts as long as my 1980 TR7 has - never mothballed, 'restored' or 'off the road' in its life.“

Yours is in a minority of survivors though John. TR7’s were never particularly well made

Yes they were - when they brought the production line down to Canley. Unfortunately owing to the strength of the pound they were then costing as much as a Porsche 924 in the USA.

I’ve only had the privilege of driving a TR7 once which was a 1977 coupe V8 conversion ....... weak synchromesh on almost every gear.

The early Speke built 'coupes' were indeed dreadful cars - I hope that conversion included the LT77 gear box - the original 4 speed Morris Marina box wouldn't have lasted long! I agree - they should have used the Dolly Sprint head - I had one back in the 70s - great car....

I would not suggest anyone use Admiral car insurance unless you want to get ripped off!

I was a loyal customer for many years but treated disgracefully.

Ignore my review at your peril. Read more

Recently moved to Direct Line for my own car, very nice to deal with on the phone and easy to understand, good value.
Haven't a clue what they would be like in the event of a claim.

Wifey with Saga for several years now, the premium raises each year, but a quick perusal on the comparison site for a decent alternative quote (certainly not the bottom 3 companies, to offer one of their quotes for matching would be an insult), and they always play ball.
Very helpful when we were changing cars over a few years ago.
Again not a clue what they would be like in the event of a claim.

NFU were by far the best insurer i have dealt with over my driving life, sadly they just charge too much or we would have every insurance with them, claim handled very well indeed.

Wouldn't touch Norwich Union, whatever they might call themselves now, was poorly nay nastily treated by them many years ago, LV couldn't even manage to take the premium payment so didn't want to find out what they would be like in the event of a claim.

My local shell is charging 129p per litre, it must rank as one of the most expensive in south west London, is this a record. The Asda 5 miles away is 120p and Tesco is 121p and the averge of Shell and BP's accross south west London around 125p..

Presumably frnachise operators are free to do as they please.... Read more

There seem to some big variations at the moment, even ignoring motorwasy and stations on busy routes such as the A1, A303 (which I happen to have travelled this morning) etc.

I have just paid 133.9 for V-Power diesel at Shell Cressex in High Wycombe. Ordinary diesel was 123.9, petrol 121.9....
