My Nissan Almera has started to make a noise and I have been told by a local mechanic that the chain is loose. He has said that it could cost £400-£500 to replace but that an oil and filter change might help. The noise is intermitant and only when the car is cold, there are no warning lights coming on on the dash. Is it safe to continue drivining as it is and cold the oil and filter change help.
I have only had the car since January 2014 and it has only done 60,000 miles. Read more
It's a common problem on that engine, usually blamed on a poor service routine and the sump capacity (2.7L).
The first sign's usually poor starting and running along with the EML. Changing the chain's not a small job....

I recently got my beloved VW Mk3 Golf MOT'd, I was considering scrapping it and buying something else but we've got a lot of history togetherso wanted to keep her going.
Before The MOT I got 2 new tyres, tracking sorted and a whole new exhaust system because the Cat had gone (except manifold) fitted at Wilko Direct. (The cost of the down pipe and cat was only £100 including fitting, I've been told this is very cheap for a CAT, even for a non type approved one and may be the problem?)... Read more
I think you may mean CO (carbon monoxide) rather than CO2 (carbon dioxide). I sympathise with your situation, and I think you're going to have to carry out some fuel trim and O2 sensor checks to enable you to accurately diagnose your problem. You will need someone with VCDS or other suitable scantool for this purpose, as well as someone who knows what he's doing. Cheap catalysts are often poor quality, but first you must be certain that the engine is running well with no vacuum leaks, loss of fuel pressure and good compression. I appreciate that this may not be easy and you've already done everything that you can do.
I am generally very pleased with my Octavia which I bought in June, 2013, and agree with the comments in your report. However, I was surprised and disappointed when the turbo failed at just over 10000 miles last May and it took 25 days to find a replacement turbo and get my car back from the dealership. When things go wrong, replacement parts supply, in my experience, leaves much to be desired. Read more

I was told yesterday by my insurance company that I need to report to them and premium will be charged as it is a modification to standard specification. I argued that fitting winter tyres makes car safer to drive in winter but they said it is not important. I understand it is all about profit for them but I found this from Asocciation of British Insurers:

Manchester Metrolink is excellent (although occasionally expensive during rush hour).
From my office in Bury, I can travel return to the city centre for £4.30. It take less time to get there than by car and I have no parking problems or charges. For a meeting during the day outside peak periods it is a far more efficient way for me to go and far cheaper as well.
It is difficult to read the offers as the authors on the right immediately super imposes on the saving figures. Why send the authors etc on the side why not at the bottom so that we can read both the subjects? Read more

Sorry, nobody on this forum can do a "V" code for free.
Ford Main Dealer or there are people on Ebay who claim they can do them.
