If your serial number starts with a V then see www.ukbookshelf.co.uk/fordv. A non urgent request cost £7.95.

I have used this service myself so I know it works. They have contacts in Ford....

My grand c-max 1.6 ecoboost recently started making noise when coming off the throttle, it sounds like the turbo but not a straight hiss, more a burbling woosh for a second which changes frequency as it dies down, it sounds like the turbo spooling down. It happens between every gear change. It's quite loud and audible in the cabin under normal driving (modest acceleration to 2.5k revs and change gear)

my local Ford garage says it's normal but it clearly isn't and it only started recently. I've owned the car from new, 22k miles and I'm a month away from end of 3 year warranty. The service guy said he spoke to Ford and they said they are not concerned that the noise indicates a problem - I bet they arent! I suspect I'm being fobbed off becuase they can't figure it out without going down expensive roads and hope I'll go away and come back when the problem worsens and I'm out of warranty. The garage I'm dealing with is very, very small, I wonder if they have seen many of these engines as they are not common.... Read more

Could some kind soul please explain to me the advantages (if any) of low profile tyres and how they differ in performance, durability, safety etc from 'conventional' rubber.

I ask because a neighbour has recently acquired a fairly venerable BMW 5 Series and it looks as though he is driving on the rims of his wheels. Read more

Good heavens - no wonder whoever it was had a short list of potential new cars due to trying to avoid tyre pressure monitoring.

I think all new cars from last month have TPMS as standard (not ABS-based flat tyre warning) ...

Can anyone tell me why it is currently fashionable for about 30% of all cars to drive at night in perfect visibility with front fog lights blazing? Does it make the car go faster? Is it suggestive of a more agressive profile? Personally I am sick of it - especially when, like tonight, the idiot follows so closely that the fog lights disappear from the rear view mirror. I believe it is illegal - why don't the police do their duty and nick the lot? Read more

It certainly ought to say: "If it's night-time, don't you dare!"

Dont discount the Octavia 4x4 or Scout. Although getting a bit expensive now.

I am getting a mechanical chattering noise on idling that rises and falls, only audible from inside the cab. Slight throttle opening gets rid of this, tried the heater fan but no difference. Seems to come from behind the glovebox area. Read more

Hi

Tappets on these engines are adjustable, will stop the noise or signifcantly reduce it....

Good afternoon, I have a 2009 1.8tdci Ford Focus which has just done 61k (out of warranty by 123 miles incidentally).

The car has started loosing power when putting your foot down. Normal driving is not really noticeable, but if you are pulling off fast such as on a mway slip road, the car judders. This appears to be around the 2500-3000 rpm range. This evening, I attempted an overtake in the fast lane, I was overtaking a van doing 60 in the middle lane, my car immediately started juddering like mad and lost some power. As soon as I released the accelerator and re-pressed, it continued like normal and built up enough speed to overtake.

I have been in-touch with the Ford dealer I purchased the car from as I suspected it would be a turbo related issue, but they are suggesting it is the fuel filter at a cost of £135.00 to change.

I am not able to undertake this work myself and I am keen to establish if my problems would suggest the filter is the cause.
Also, forgot to say, I have had no warning lights on the dash ever.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Read more

Their diagnosis is most likely to be correct, especially with no warning lights on the dash.
