My BMW Turbo has failed after 4 years and 61000 miles despite being serviced by BMW from new. The repair will be circa £1800 BMW have offered £1000 for good will leaving me with the remaining £800 to pay. I think they should offer more. Am I being unreasonable? Read more

Have a look on ebay for a turbo, new/recon ones are much cheaper and secondhand ones cheaper still. When you have your new one change the oil at twice the recommended interval and you likely won't have any more problems.

From new. Wipers leaving a 50mm wide double stripe of uncleaned glass in way of joints in blade holders except in full wet conditions. Wipers changed twice by supplier to no avail.

As a last resort, one piece holders from a Civic & a Jazz(?) were fitted & work well but not 100%.... Read more

What with all the foul weather this winter, floods etc I'm wondering if a 2wd suv with a decent ground clearance or wading depth is going to be more useful and cheaper to own than a 4wd that is good on the week or three (down south) of snow and ice. Having recently returned from a New Years break near Looe in Cornwall I spent a fair amount of time turning round in my Mondeo estate and avoiding flooded roads that I could have comfortably driven through in a taller SUV with decent ground clearance. I suppose the next couple of months will help me decide. Read more

Stick to the mondeo.

I dont put my 4x4 through deep water its not worth it, you might get a little more ground clearance but not much more, in fact the extra ground clearance is more usefull in snow.

Hi all, As the title suggests I'm seeking some advice...

I split up with my ex husband and moved out in July.

Anyway, dropped our daughters to him on 20/12 and he gave me about a months' worth of post.

One letter looked official, and was a court letter saying I'd been convicted of failing to notify the driver of a vehicle.

Apparently my ex got caught speeding earlier in the year, but I've missed a court appearance for failing to notify them of the who was driving. Even though his car has nothing to do with me, I wasn't insured on it and it is registered to him. He went to court on 19/11 and was given 3pts and a fine as he admitted it. It was outside his work 30 miles away and they had a photo of a man driving!

Apparently they still prosecuted me in my absence on 04/12 (as my ex hadn't told me anything about it) and gave me 6pts and a £400 fine.

Because of a problem with DVLA last year, I retook my test after driving for 16 years as they lost my details!? I had to have licence quickly as I work for the NHS, so I retook my test rather than fight them. So anyway because I got 6 points (in apparently my first 2 years of driving) they have revoked my licence and I can't drive.

Been trying to sort it for weeks - everyone agrees (including police and courts) agree something went wrong but I have to go to court to explain and get it back. I've had the court's legal team looking into it now and they have admitted there are extenuating circumstances, although they won't advise what these are!

The latest advice the courts have is to send in a letter outlining above and they will give me a new court date as if it was my first appearance.

I've been distraught over this, am struggling to get to and from work and having to leave my children alone for half an hour mornings and afternoons because of bus times. My Xmas was ruined as I couldn't visit family as planned. I can't get legal aid as it's a motoring offence and I'm at my wit's end!!

Any advice!? xxx Read more

I am still at a loss as to how they have dragged you into S172 (name and shame). The obligation initially is on the REG KEEPER of which you state you are not but HE is. Are you sure you are not joint? If this was the case then they have authority to do so.

OR as previously stated hubby has done a dirty and given information about you. eg Initial form to him reply " Dont know who was driver may have been wife" which opens up second leg of request. This later retracted and he has admitted being driver hence fine for speeding. In the meantine they have served request on you which was not actioned.Offence....

Can anyone explain why the impact of tyre choice can have such diverse impacts on fuel economy?

I have attempted to extract two tables from the KIA published data for the RIO - summarised below - they appear to show that KIA is 'admitting to' a fuel economy penalty going from standard 185/65 R15 tyres to a lower profile and wider 195/55 R16 tyre for three of the four engine choices but that unexpectedly on the 1.4 CRDI Manual ISG, going from the 195/55 R16 tyre on the Grade 2 Rio to a 205/45 R17 tyre on the Grade 3 RIO actually improves fuel economy? ... Probably find those 45 aspect tyres are running about 8psi higher pressures than the 55's.

You'll need that fuel saving to pay for the fillings that shake loose as you negotiate Britains third world cart tracks on 45's....

Been driving a mini dumper for the past couple of days. I've heard of dumbing down but this is crazy - it has ONE pedal. Forward and reverse selected on an stalk just like the indicators.

Getting used to it but trying to edge up close to a steep bank to dump materials was scary...I hate automatics at the best of times but without even a brake pedal to stomp on as a last resort, was something else entirely!... Read more

Probably due to the hydrostatic drive?
It's more like a boat than a car.
Has no gearbox or clutch, just engine driven hydraulic fluid pump and a hydrostatic drive on the axle or each wheel.

I'm having trouble with keeping up with changes to length of warranties.
