Just getting annoying now as I am in a communal car park and cars are close due to stupid narrow parking spaces. Leaning over at and angle is a struggle at times to get the door open. It's ok if you are next to the car and square on with plenty of space. I don't really want to start taking the door cards off, but I have been advised against blasting WD40 everywhere from the outside as it may take off the grease from the mechanism which is probably what may need re-greasing. I have taken door cards off before and they have never gone back on properly for me, so don't really want to do this! Any good advice appreciated. Read more
My four year, 3 month old Golf estate has just needed a complete EGR system replacement, ie cooler, valve pipes and gaskets. The system had becone completely clogged. Parts alone were over £700 and the labour £650. The car has 46.5k miles on the clock and has been regularly serviced at a main dealer. In August 2012 there was a fault with the DPF regeneration, which was fixed under warranty. Otherwise, nothing else to report. The car is regularly used on motorway/main road runs and infrequently for short, or traffic snarled hops. I have been in discussion with VW Cutomer Care, who admit that this fault usually occurs at mileages around the 100k mark, so my car is unusual. They have agreed to pay for the parts as a goodwill gesture, but will not contribute to the labour costs. I feel that this fault should not have occurred on a car of this 'vintage' and am considering taking things further to recover more of the cost. I dont consider this to be reasonable wear and tear. A five year old car develops a mechanical fault its hardly news or unusual, its all part of having an economical low soot engine.

Hi and I would appreciate your advice! I am looking at buying a V70, probably one of the last of the Mark 1s, 1999 or 2000. This would be a budget taxi for the growing brood, but I still enjoy driving and have a special love of Volvos, having lived in Sweden. My thoughts are to look for:
Classic 2.4 petrol, 170bhp, automatic, maybe with the 7 seat option, with as much fsh and as low mileage as I can find, then to keep it going ... forever!
Some questions which you may be able to help me with please:
1. When was the Classic available?
2. In which colours?
3. Is there a real difference between the 140 and 170bhp, in performance and maintenance?
4. I have a loathing of Dual Mass Flywheels, assume this is limited to the diesel and manual models?
5. What should I be very careful about? I appreciate that these cars are now 15 years old, but I have seen some with close to 300k miles and afte all they are Swedish! :-)
6. Is there another Mark 1 edition I should look at?
7. Should I forget this and go for an early Mark 2? :-(
If so, which one?
Many thanks and keep up the good work. Read more
I had a W210 E class 320cdi, and the body rust was simply terrible, was a silver finish and these seem to be the worst affected. Apart from this was the most comfortable estate car I have come across and did 40mpg
Brother in law has just offered me an unsold car in the middle east, yes, its a Chinese Mgzt 183bhp manual. (the very old starlet is getting very tired and i am quite daft enough to go for it to use when there!
makes me feel all nostalgic. Read more
are you shiping it back to the UK>?
No, It is for use there, but price is attractive, about£12k and it would be used by family and for us for when we are there, as car hire is expensive and the quality is poor. The starlet is getting very long in the tooth and struggles if 4 or 5 of us in it....
Hi,
I've got my beast back after a front end prang and the external temperature sensor is flashing OE, obviously the S button just resets the compass. Any idea what this means and can I reset it or go back to the garage and get them to sort.... Read more
The external temperature sensor is usually located away from the engine bay to avoid heat pick-up. Either behind the front bumper or in the external mirror casing. If either of these have been replaced due to the accident, I would suspect the sensor hasn't been replaced or left disconnected.
Hello guys. I'm not entirely sure this is the right place to ask but it's what I came across in a short notice, so I'll just go ahead.
It's been quite some time now and I am still unable to convince myself in a trustworthy moving company that also supports storage. Yes, I've made the effort of consulting with as many people as i could. They gave me reccomendations such as getting an ordinary Man and Van assistance(not entirely sure it was called that way, because it's supposed to be 1 man, which ends up cheap.... Read more
Thanks. I'll check those guys out. Also, I've been reccomended with Bestmove since I'm not going anywhere else but London. See, the problem is, as always, I want to be swift with it. As you say, it won't happen anywhere near cheap. Going for self insurance just isn't what I had in mind. I'm still at it, still looking. Not so much as rushing or chasing a deadline, more like making sure, once I start, to get it doe safely with optional time compression. Anyways, I'll check those two you have proposed to be. Tell me if the one I pointed out above is any good or not, would appreciate not having controvercy in opinions flying around my head.

The old faithful s-reg Mondeo petrol estate is still running like a swiss watch, but the rust and tyre situation probably means that funds to nurse it through the Mot would be better spent elsewhere.
we are usually short runs (10 miles return) with occasional big trips, but like the comfort of a car Mondeo/Vectra sized - hatchback slightly preferable for the supermarket car park. :-) . Never owned a diesel before because they were always much pricier to buy. BUT....... Read more

If a car is listed at VAT qualifying, does it mean the listed price is +20%. I've looked into what it means and how it works in terms of dealers VAT obligations in buying/selling/exporting, but when buying as a private owner who is not interested in any of this, is the price listed with or without VAT?

Thanks for the calrification

Are you sure there is nothing on the site to say it lubricates. It says it penetrates which WD40 is designed to do and helps if something is frozen.
