Trying to sort a problem with my Ford Focus TDCi 1.8 2006: the engine occassionally has what I can only describe as a 'hickup' at about 1500 RPM - feels slightly like a misfire on the injectors, but as it only happens at those revs, could the fault be with the pump, rather than injectors?

The other running issue is that the power from very low rev up to 1500 RPM is low... when I asked my Ford garage, they reckon that although the injectors can wear, and may need reconditioning, the pump will either work & pressure correctly, or fail - which sounds odd, as surely all mechanical components will wear! They don't have an injection pump just a high pressure one which doesn't usually give much trouble, they usually either work or dont. If its similar to the PSA Hdi engine the pump has a pressure regulator which can cause all sorts of faults.

Do I get my garage to replace the timing belt on my XF on its 75,000 service now rather than wait till I reach 105,000 miles? I maintain a full Jaguar warranty to 100,000 miles. The car has had a lot of cold starts in the first two years. Read more

Better safe than sorry. Get it done! And speaking as an ex jaguar parts manager, make sure it is done by someone competent. Depending on where you are , there are some good jaguar independants around, but if you are maintaining the jaguar warranty take it to your dealer and negotiate.

Headers in the states are the exhaust manifold.

Just because it passed an MOT a week ago does not mean the cat or O2 sensor can fail a week later....

I recently had my Ford Focus written off in the floods up here in the North East (the air intake is at the bottom of the engine and the car drowned in a 7in puddle).

I've been looking around and have seen a P12 Primera with the dreaded QG18DE engine. The car is cheap, despite being one of the very late ones from 2006, so would be an OK runabout for a year or so until I have enough cash to buy something nice.... Read more

Hi. I have a Peugeot 307cc and have a problem with the computerised fault indicator saying fault with air bag/seat belt pretensioner when diagnostics show no fault. The sign flashes and beeps irritatingly all the time and the dealership garage are stumped and have not come up with a solution to make it stop. It drives me mad so I wondered if anyone had a similar problem and any ideas of what I can do to stop it!! Car registerd in 2006 with low milage. Hopefully waiting for any feedback. Annie Read more

I swa a Focus that he ad been in an airbag inflating crash and the recovery team said it would be a write of as it would need a new interior @ £6000. Something to do with contaminations of the seat and headlining? Any air bag light, meaningless or not is an MOT fail in any event

Would appreciate any info with this problem, changed the wife's front pads a couple of months back they were well down but the brake pad sensor was not damaged in any way, changed the pads and three weeks later the light on the dash comes on!!! do a search on google info states if you leave the ignition on for approx 30secs the light will go out, it did but came back on two days later, must be the sensor fit a new non gen item same thing but took three days before it was back on.
It has since had a full service at our local garage, informed they have reset it lasted three weeks and came back on, was back in yesterday and they fitted a Bosch sensor next day light back on, can anyone give me a clue as it has got me beat now, thanks Read more

Update for anyone with the same issue, either by coincidence or just good luck, as stated above the problem was started after FRONT pads were changed, just could not sort it even the garage tried three times and failed, so as a last ditch effort I tried the spare front sensor on the REAR left the orig in place just pluged the new one in and tie wrapped it up out of the way, that was 7/8 weeks back and the light is still off.

Elder daughter is on her fourth 1.3 Yaris which is coming up to 3 years old and the end of the PCP. She's a freelance nanny and earnings are low enough to need a reduction in her monthly outgoings.

Why not keep this Yaris (it's been totally reliable like the other three, but has done 52,000 miles)? Because she hasn't got £3,500 for the balloon payment - nor have I without running up a debt myself - and I'd prefer not to have her make repayments coupled with the possiblity of replacements and repairs as the mileage mounts.... Hi,

I've just sold my car through BCA's Sure Sell service. The car was collected by a 3rd party. Before it was picked up I asked BCA whether I needed to fill in any part of the V5 before handing it over - i was told no (I presume because the car may not have sold and been returned to me).... Read more

driving on motorway for 2hrs approx 70 to 80mph in 5th gear, just keeping up with traffic, suddenly lost speed, car decelerated as though no petrol feed. floored accerlerator pedal, engine suddenly kicked in and speed picked up. fault recurred over next 2 hours but dissapeared after 20 min delay thru road incident. tried to reproduce fault conditions but without success. problem was there whether driving up hill, downhill or on the flat. only change to car was half tank petrol filled up with BP ultimate instead of bog standard tesco Preium for return journey. no alarms indicated and wierdest thing was rev meter stayed constant even as acceleration fell?

fault returned proper, very lumpy driving. garage changed oxygen sensor before cat, and also plugs. the ecm warning then came on permenantly. garage decided better if nissan looked at it as sensors were £150 each, they charged me for parts only. nissan had a go, changed oxygen sensor after cat. and problem solved (nissan cost of £300). car seems to be running ok now, not as sprightly as before but could be my imagination or a subtle change in the air/fuel mix. thats it folks. thanks for help.
