Hi guys,

I'm at a miss as to what is causing the coolant to boil in my Fiestas Coolant expansion tank. The level is at the appropriate level - and there appears to be no loss of coolant. After engine shutoff, I can hear "hissing", the sound of pressure escaping from the Expansion tank cap?... Read more

I wondered this as there was never any coolant loss... The gurgling / heat of the expansion tank just didn't seem right to me...

Hello there,

I plan to buy a car in the next few months but would have to pay in installments as I can't afford the car up front. My budget is approximately £8-9K and would want to pay over approximately 3-4 years. Buying a car worth £8K over time actually involves you paying about £11K in total - I want to avoid this.... The fallacy here is believing throwing every spare pound you do - and do not have - at an £8k car will get you something much better than you can buy for £5-6k. Everybody falls into the trap of believing they have to max out their entire budget or they'll end up with a lemon when in reality you can get surprisingly good cars on the cheap these days.

I agree with Avant by the way, economists are brilliant at telling you why something happened but are pretty useless at telling you what will happen.

i cleaned the ERG valve as after reading threads on here, it was really full, it ran fine for two days then it had no power at all, as the only thing i had b*****ed about with was the EGR i replaced it and it's run great up till now, i might try putting the old one back in and try it, i have it booked in for a diagnostic on fri so hopefully the fault can be found, Thanks and will let you know the outcome

I'm posting on behalf of a friend. They got stopped by the police who then seized their car because they were stupidly driving without insurance. He got a fixed penalty notice of 6 points and a £200 fine. Now comes the difficult bit - trying to get the car back. He can't afford to take out a policy now to get the car back, he'd need a deposit of £400 plus the money to pay the fine and the recovery fee. Yesterday his parents took out insurance on the car and tried to pick the car up but the police wouldn't let them as they weren't the registered keeper of the car. Now, they phoned this morning to see whether they could go again with their son so that the owner and driver would be there but they're saying that they refuse to release the car without a valid insurance certificate with the OWNER on it, not just the nominated driver. Now, if the person could get insurance themselves, why would they need a nominated driver and so why would they have that option in place? I'm pretty sure that they should give the car back and was told that by someone else within the police force. Any help?

Found this in the policy seized unisured cars for Kent Police but can't find any policy for Greater Manchester Poice who are holding the car...... Read more

If your son cannot afford to Insure the car (Not forgetting he has to declare the no insurance convistion now). Why don't you transfer the ownership to you which will satisfy the police.

I suspect this is going to be a head off fix and not economicaly worth while. Would really apprechiate some advice...

Ha ha! Yes Doc. I assumed the leak was near the back box, but if it was at the front, it would play havoc with the lambda readings. Hopefully simples indeed!

Trying to sort a problem with my Ford Focus TDCi 1.8 2006: the engine occassionally has what I can only describe as a 'hickup' at about 1500 RPM - feels slightly like a misfire on the injectors, but as it only happens at those revs, could the fault be with the pump, rather than injectors?

The other running issue is that the power from very low rev up to 1500 RPM is low... when I asked my Ford garage, they reckon that although the injectors can wear, and may need reconditioning, the pump will either work & pressure correctly, or fail - which sounds odd, as surely all mechanical components will wear! Read more

Peter.N.

They don't have an injection pump just a high pressure one which doesn't usually give much trouble, they usually either work or dont. If its similar to the PSA Hdi engine the pump has a pressure regulator which can cause all sorts of faults.

A first easy step would be to tune into a BBC station and see if the clock automatically updates from the time signal.
