Well, like everyone on here, I am sufferring with the high cost of motoring, and cannot escape from it, yes, use the car as little as possible, but our esteemed transport minister says that motorists have to reduce the deficit! talk about the goose and golden egg. I do not fill up as often so estimate a 25% reduction in fuel duties for HMG, Stopped buying anything absolutely non essential o the high street, will not nuy a new car, doubt if i will even buy a "newish" car.

If "They" keep on hammering all of us so much and we all stp spending, look at the shop closures on the high street. One national chain of car dealers has closed sites in cardiff, another in sheffield, I know and accept that we have to pay taxes, and cannot get out of it unless we earm lots and lots and have "trusts" like some of our politicians, but surely this will soon reach critical mass and the only way to cut costs will be to savagely cut more from the budget and repeat the vicious downward spiral ! I don't need convincing - I even like the bread; the cheese I love. The climate (if you're away from the Channel), the scenery, the lifestyle.

(Whispers) I even like the French.

I posted ages back about a silly friend of mine who owns the new shape Corsa. It's an '08 1.3 CDTi. 75000 miles now. At the time she'd done 60,000 and it hadn't even seen an oil change - she just "gave it a drink whenever the red light came on"

Hi,

I bought a used ford focus 4 days ago. Its a 2005 1.6 (115) titanium model, 76K miles. I got it for what seemed to be a good price 3K as it only has 2 months MOT and needed a few jobs doing.

I took it to my local trusted garage to get the rear wheel bearings replaced, had two new tyres and the tracking done and also had work done on the rear brake calipers as they were rattling and making lots of noise. All was well at this point and I had covered about 100 miles with no problems.

My father thought it would be a good idea to get it serviced at a ford garage and get a stamp in the book in case I wanted to sell it in a year. Ford did a full 75K service, changed the brake fluid, air con gas, spark plugs etc.

Later that day my engine warning light came on, this happened after driving in terrible flooded conditions (loads of water on the roads, splashing up on the car, people in land rovers doing stupid speeds splashing up more water on my car). I presumed maybe some water had got somewhere and tripped a sensor, there was and is no noise or anything to indicate a problem with the engine. I took it to the local garage and he checked it over and said he couldnt see anything wrong, he connected the error reader and said it was showing no error so he reset it and said drive it to see if it comes back on. I took it on a short drive and the light didn't reappear to it looked like it had been fixed.

I then look the car on another drive and about 60 miles later the light reappeared. I was looking for advice to see if anyone had any ideas as to what this could be? Could it be ford have put some crap spark plugs in? Could the water have caused it? Is this a common issue with this car and the previous owner was covering this up? Any ideas on how to fix it, I don't really want to go back to ford ever as they charge way more than my local garage.

Many thanks! Read more

A Passat CC will be fine.

It's a nice wide car with a big roof. What more do you need?

Recently my Audi struggles to restart if I stall it. I have to turn it over for about 4 seconds and press the accelerator down to get it to just about splutter into life which I never had to do before. It can also have the same symptoms if I stop it to nip into a shop for a couple of minutes then try to start it. Also a few times when i start it first thing before my journey it turns over more times than normal before starting and splutters a bit as it fires. It drives fine and doesnt seem to be displaying any other problems.

I have had a mechanic do a code read but doesn't pick anything up so im stuck on what it could be. the car has had recent spark plugs & MAF sensor and was fine until now so shouldnt be these parts failing already.......I guess!... Read more

Yeah it was only a cheap part if I remember from GMF. Not an Audi genuine part. Would have thought it would last longer than it has if it is this part. The thing is, as I am getting no codes come up it will be trial and error if I find the problem as could be a number of things and as money is tight I dont want to spend a fortune replacing parts it "might be". I have seen the temp sensors cheap on ebay so may get one and risk it as it wont cost the earth.

Well, TeeCee, your three paragraphs verify what I've always thought--- It takes very commited computer knowledge to work Microsoft Windows and IE. At my age, I use Ubuntu Linux and Firefox. It works, it's easy and it's free!

What's that all about.

I'm not a snob, it just isn't aesthetically pleasing, and I doubt the concept works technically or engineering.... wise.... Read more

Tyre width is also directly proportional to noise levels. The thinner the quieter. Thin is best in mud, snow and ice too.

Today I received a letter from LV which said they had incorrectly charged me a £10 admin fee at renewal. They apologised and enclosed a cheque for £15 compensation. I had not noticed the error so full marks to LV in this case.
