I am going to sell my 1998 Mitsubishi Galant. It has been a faithful servant for 4 years and has never let me down. It's Now done 135,000 miles and has 11 months mot. There are other positives but I'm not tnying to sell it you dear reader! My question is - is complete honesty the best policy? Aside from the warm feeling I will have of knowing I have not misled a fellow human, will being honest (warts and all) actually help me sell the car? The bad bits are that the front suspension has a nasty creak to it. The creak was there when the car was MOTd and did not cause it to fail. Last week the top mounts were replaced but creak is still there. In addition, the clutch can sometimes (for at least 2 years on and off) make a bit of noise when changing down gear. It is not in any way slipping though. Also air con has packed up. Will being honest help me sell it, or will it scare people off? I am sure that the other 14 year old cars for sale will have their own niggles, but I don't see anyone on autotrader owning up to them! Thoughts?! Read more

And would I have any come back with the police
This was not my mistake and I have put it right as soon as I have seen something wrong

Hi,
Due to medical reasons we need to get shot of my Mum's manual Ford Ka and look for an automatic in a similar size. It will mainly be used for short journeys with a couple of motorway trips now and again.
Budget of around £3-4k so looking for something around 6 or 7 years old that will be solid, reliable and cheap to run/maintain.
I know nothing about buying autos (that often get less favourable reviews than their manual equivalent) so any advice on what models to look out for, and also what to check when testing would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Chris Read more
Absolutely avoid a Toyota MMT auto. As others have said, a nasty example of the automated manual.
They are properly horrible. Nasty in use and their programming goes out all too often, which just makes them worse. Toyota should be ashamed of themselves of that 'box. Its cost them customers, and deservedly so....
I bought a second hand minibus less than 48 hours ago. Queried sluggishness and black smoke coming from the exhause, with the buyer on the drive home (over the phone), he said if it was something like the turbo the warranty would cover it. Put the minibus in the garage this morning for a once over and faults have shown up, inlet manifold split, abs sensor wires have been tempory fixed (the abs light was on during test drive so I asked for it to be sorted).
The warrenty says it will not cover any faults found within 48 hours of buying the vehicle. Cant get the dealer on the phone but Ive left a message. The are 2 hours away from me so cant just pop round!
Help...where do I stand please. Read more
You have legal rights having bought it from a dealer. Unfortunately, you have to give him the opportunity to put it it right. This is irrespective of any warranty you may have been offered. We obviously don't know what your personal circumstances are and whether you can avoid drivin the vehicle, but if you don't hear from him, your first step is to put the problems in writing (send him a recorded delivery letter), and ask that he put the vehicle right or refund your money. If you still don't hear from him, send him another letter advising him that you will be taking him to the small claims court to recover the cost of the repairs.

I'm looking at getting a 2006 grande punto 1.9 multijet, any opinions? anything I should look for apart from the obvious used car stuff? Read more
I'm surprised that a car like the Focus would have belts too short for a child seat - maybe your seat is an unusual model?
You'd be surprised. Our car seat is a Silver Cross Ventura group 0+, there's loads of them out there, and it's actually a smaller one! We also tried a Maxi Cosi in the focus, same problem, and the maxi cosi is the most popular car seat....
Hope someone can help. I have been having problems with my battery which is about eight months old. Car constantly has trouble starting although I have had battery and alternator checked and all seem ok. I have been told that I do not use car enough and due to size the battery does not have time to recharge. This morning the key fob would not work to open doors electronically, after starting with jump leads, the head lights came on when I turned the engine on and would not go off and the indicators don't work. Is this likely to be a fuse or do you think they are all connected?
Cheers

Might well be the case you don't use it enough, what sort of usage routine are we talking about.
Hi
Hope you can help, its a strange question around car alarm on above car!
I am planning to leave my car at home or at airport car park (TBC) for a few weeks when I go on holiday.
I am really worried about my car and security around it, but main concern is the alarm and will explain why!
If I set the alarm and double lock (keyless entry so press twice) if the alarm was to go off:
1) How many times will it keep going off until car is unlocked or alarm turned off
2) Does it just stop at some point and if so what happens to car, does it stay locked, immobilsied etc?
The reason I ask, is I had a VW Passat before and this happened, the alarm went off 3 times and when I got home I couldnt start the car as the engine had immboilised, I had to get garage to fix. I was told it was due to the alarm going off and it not being stopped.
I think its a great safety idea but my worry is if my alarm is nudged and goes off what could happen to my car when I get home so I dont have any surpise. I appreciate alarm is working to deter thiefs and it could get worse as in return to no car, but it cost me a lot of money to get it fixed last time and just want to understand how it works on the focus and the best method.
I would think it would keep car locked and engine should turn again when get in car with key?
Thanks

HOW CAN I STOP THE ELECTRIC WINDOWS CLOSING AFTER LOCKING THE CAR AS I HAVE DOGS IN THE CAR WHEN PARKED, MANY THANKS Read more
I live in Australia and have a Skoda Yeti. The car is always parked in the open as I have no garage. In the very hot sunny summer weather, I like to keep the windows down and the car locked (so engine imobiliser is working). In the last few days I have noticed that when I check the car (after sundown) the windows are up again - like magic. I wonder if this is a security thing that Skodas do using the auto headlight sensor. Anyone have any thoughts?

Suspension noise is possibly a seizing bottom ball joint, but as BT says a good spraying with oily stuff (i use waxoyl for such things cos it doesn't affect rubber) usually shuts things up, if it doesn't then possible a seized swivel.
I imagine anyone wanting to buy the car will expect a few faults anyway, don't claim immaculate or mint or such meaningless sales patter....
