Hi all, new to this forum and VW ownership. I'm looking for some recommendations for a trustworthy garage to get my cambelt changed in the Solihull / Hall Green / Olton area, preferably an Independent specialist in VW / VAG cars as I've been ripped off previously when I owned my Audi A3 by a local garage to me who claimed they were specialists (i won't name and shame them) They probably though that being a woman I wouldn't question anything, typical !!
I was recommended by a friend that had previously used them a place up in Hollywood, Birmingham called Wizardworks working next to a company called Volkswizard or something like that, that did servicing and repairs on all VW Group cars, after googling the name there seems to be nothing called this anymore apart from a few broken links that don't work, does anybody know if Iain the Mechanic from there is working somewhere else now or set up on his own, any help would be much appreciated or failing that some other recommendations of other local garages, many thanks all Read more
Quite often the main agents are comparable with price of anybody else.
Not In Birmingham for some reason
Brother got his done at a local independant (not a VW specialist, but well versed with them) - they did it for half the price of the cheapest main dealer quote
Got a problem with the intermittent function on the front wipers. Every other function on the wiper stalk works apart from the intermittent wiper function. Garage have suggested it must be the motor, cost to supply & fit £350.00.
Has anyone else has a similar problem or suggestion Read more
Does the self park work OK? If so, then I'd look at the module that supplies the pulse to start the intermittent wipe.
My x type jag wont restart after its been running for 5 mins onwards. It takes at least 5 or 6 attempts before it kicks in. Also the water in the system has run out completely over the last few weeks on a couple of occasions with no apparent leaks anywhere. Im wondering if maybe the cylinder head gasket has gone ? Any feedback would be very grateful. I am about to put the car into an independent jag dealer in the next day or so to hopefully solve the problem. By the way the car drives well otherwise. Read more
Thanx for the info.

Regardless of what you end up buying get a good breakdown policy. You may need it with an older car.
Got a new noise coming from my car as of today. At around 20 it sounds like someone blowing air down a cardboard tube. As I accelerate it gets louder, around 40+ it sounds like an old prop driven airplane.
As best I can tell it's coming from the front, perhaps slightly to the left.... Read more
Check if you have a cover underneath the engine bay, it might not be secured properly & catching the wind & flapping up/down causing a vibration.
My Haynes manual does not show the wiring for two fans, radiator and condenser. Each fan has three wires red, black and brown connected to the fan via a cylindrical device maybe a thermostat.
I would be grateful for any help. barty 616. Read more

Right.... I bought this as a runaround for the wife a while ago, thinking I'd got a good deal. It had a (genuine) 40,000 mile engine, no service history but the previous owner was a policeman (now retired) and I was told it had been serviced at Her Majesty's expense. I think that's probably true.
Almost immediately however, it started to lose coolant and overheat - especially on the steering column housing, where it was red-hot. Took it to a garage, who told me that the water housing was broken, plus it needed at least part of a new exhaust, probably new timing belt... the list went on. I began to wish I hadn't bothered with the damn thing and left it off-road for a few weeks while I decided exactly what to do about it.... Read more
I would suspect that this overheating you are referring to is due to the fact thay no air is blowing through the heater matrix so the heat is by convection rising to the underside of the dashboard, in which case it cannot rise above the temperature of the water which is about 90C so not likely to set fire to anything.
The pipe running water to my rear washer has split (apparently it's quite common on these cars). The split itself is within the rubber running from the car to the tailgate.

Yeah, you're right - a simple inline valve bridge the gap and did the trick!
Hi,
I have a vauxhall astra 1997 diesel. It won't turn over. It doesn't seem it is even drawing power when trying to start. It started fine and it was running fine. It will bump start fine and run. Last night it wouldn't start and then this morning it started 3 times fine but now won't even turn over again. The battery doesn't seem to be a problem at all. I'm thinking possible ignition switch problem.... Read more
