I recently had a water pump and thermostat housing failure on my 2006 1.25 Fiesta Style.... Read more
hi
i have had a few problems with my car. had to have the timing chain changed 12 months ago. cost £450.
two months ago started making a loud ticking noise again. before i had a chance to take it into the garage something happened and the engine broke. snapped one of the pistons.
took it back to the garage who said i needed a new engine fitted. they sourced a second hand one. duly got that fitted. another £700.
now my question is the ticking noise has come back. is there a minimum life for chains and should i need a new one allready?
thanks for any help you can give

Yes, but the new chain you had was on your old engine? The replacement engine may well have its original chain and that could be on the way out. You don't say how many miles the secondhand engine already had on it.
Sounds like either you were unlucky with the replacement chain on your original engine and got a duff one, or there was some other problem at the root of the failure. Definately should last significantly longer than a year.

Some time ago, I braked for a light as it went red. I heard the sound of the vehicle behind me locking up on the wet road and backed off the brakes. I shot the lights by about 2/3 of the car's length (plenty of space to do so and no threat whatsoever to anything else) and he stopped behind me, just shy of my rear bumper, looking slightly sheepish.
The alternative would have been a rear-end smash....
The Fiat has been suffering from loss of heat (yes I know it's *supposed* to be summer but the mornings are cold!) There is a little warm air when I first start up then as the engine warms up the heater gets cold. And then I don't get any more warm air till I'm on the motorway going pretty fast. Back on the A-roads the heat subsides again. The garage I use is usually good and they have replaced the thermostat twice but now the problem has occured again. Any ideas? Read more
To update this for the archives, I can report that I decided to replace the head gasket. That cost me £800 which was cheaper than any kind of new car. This was done in autumn 2012 and the car then gave trouble free motoring until yesterday- when the head gasket blew *properly* - spectacular amounts of steam coming out of the exhaust. But I have learned my lesson and I'm on the lookout for a new car now
Well done to the fair fuel prices people for helping to stop the 3p a litre increase in August. It will hopefully help to keep the price of everything that comes by road down. Read more
Does Collos have nothing better to do but sit there and patronise everybody else? The ironic thing is he's usually wrong as well so he just looks like a horribly depressed moron.
Hansard is not a bible and there's no need for anybody to table anything now because he's already postponed it. Maybe Collos should actually have to live in the UK before he's entitled to an opinion on anything in it.
Hi I have a Sanef Tag for use on the peage roads in France. The instructions say to place on the mottled area behind the review mirror otherwise the metalic coating on a heat reflectant windscreen means it will not work. However this area is taken up by the plastic housing of the City Safe sensor, so no mottled area. Another problem is I have an electrically heated windscreen again with metalic elements.
So where can i place the sensor? Read more

There's a very specific procedure about supplying a 3 bar pressure the the inlet cam variable valve timing gubbins and using a locking pin. Did you follow this procedure?
I am being charged with failing to provide information relating to driver identity (section 172 road traffic act). I returned the NIP although it was a month late due to illness identifying the driver (someone who was working for me), he is denying being the driver so I was contacted again by the camera office and I have since had several telephone conversations with them as well as providing further written confirmation of the driver's identity. I believe I have met my obligations providing the driver's identity and now I'm being charged with failing to provide information! Advice please? Read more
> but it is the price we pay for ultimate justice
No it isn't, it's the price we pay for laziness and revenue-raising. Had the offender been pulled and served by actual plod on the scene, his identity would have been ascertained then (or an arrest made if not)....
I have just bought a car, which I had test driven twice and noticed no problems. But when I collected it today, whilst idling in traffic in drive, on the flat, I pressd down on the accelerator to start going again and it started reversing! The first seems really sluggish full stop, the dealer said it sounds like a faulty switch pack and will replace it on saturday. I'm praying this is the problem? The only way I could stop it reversing, was to switch off the car and restart, thank god I didn't have an accident :( Read more
It's a pity that Citroen persist with the EGS (Exceptionally Grotty System) in the C4 and Picasso, as my impression is that they have made more progress with quality and reliability than Renault, perhaps even than sister company Peugeot.
This gearbox is jerky and unreliable (correct me someone if I'm wrong but I don't think it's dual-clutch like the VW Group's DSG), and I can't see what advantage it's supposed to have over a manual or an automatic - unless I suppose if you love changing gear and don't have the use of your left foot. ...
Following the failure of the steering motor in my Nissan Micra (55 plate), I've replaced with a second hand steering motor and ecu.
I've no problem staring the car, but 5 minutes into every journey, the red NATS light comes on. It does not affect (yet) my ability to continue driving.... Read more
