About 8 months ago, someone bumped into the rear of my car whilst parked in a car park, hardly any noticible damage, in fact didnt notice for two days, however the bumper is ever so slightly pushed forward on the drivers side. Last night driving home I noticed what can be described as a 'metalic clatter' or like two metal plates being slapped together, or the sound a loose manhole cover makes when you drive over them, when I go over rough ground or speed bumps. Got the car booked in for Thursday, but wondering if anyone could shed any light on the problem. Not had any issues before, but was wondering if the bump has had anything to do with it or just a coincedence?

I thought that, but tried to shake the exhaust and all looks fine? The clatter does sound like it could be a loose brake caliper, but I drove over a bump and applied the brakes at the same time and the clatter still happend?

Hi I am looking for an MPV at the moment my choices are Nissan Almera Tino Petrol and Diesel and Vauxhall Zafira . Can anyone please give me an opinion on all three cars to get . I have a big family and do loads of travelling . Obviously think that the Tino Diesel would be more economical than the Tino 1.8 , am I right ?? I travel around 80miles a week , not motorway though although will be doing a few motorway trips over the summer . My budget is less than £2000, I know its low but thats all we can afford and we definitely need 5 seats or more . Read more

I have been told that there may be two different types of rear wheel bearing for my car. Is this the case? Do I need to buy the brake disk as well or just the bearing, and does it come with the hub or just bearing that has to be pressed into the hub?

Since you referred to discs in your opening post you'll find that you can't renew just the bearings. You need a complete hub with new bearing. It's only drum brakes where you can knock out the bearing and refit a new one.

Just want to share. I unfortunately filed up my Polo with unleaded fuel instead of diesel!

Luckily I've noticed it before starting up and after towing etc. got it drained and they reasured me there will be no damage. Let's hope! Back at the filling station the manager showed me a New 'Dieselsmartcap' that are on the market. It replaces my current Diesel cap. Its orange and purple in colour and some sort of gimic prevents me from opening it by hand. The only way to open this cap is to take the DIESEL nozzle, put it into the cap and release it with a turn of your wrist. The diesel nozzle is already in your hand and you can just go ahead and fill up.... Read more

This story has a happy ending. I asked the garage if they would mind re-testing the emissions on a hot engine, and they agreed straight away. They gave me an appointment and I took the car to them. I asked for ten minutes to drive it around and get the exhaust hot; they agreed to this, and tested the car immediately on my return. This time the numbers were...

Hi

I have a Ford Focus 1.6 2001 which has been causing me many problems recently. Just a bit of background to start - the car overheated and cut out a few times, was pressure tested and we discovered the head gasket needed replacing. This work was carried out approx 1 month ago, the garage also replaced the temp sensor and thermostat at the same time. Since then the temperature gauge has been going into the red whenever the car is under any strain, even the slightest incline and it shoots up, and only by taking my foot off the pedal and slowing right down brings it back down again. ... The radiator is the most likely cause, get it checked, if it’s ok then it sounds to me as though one of the hoses is perished which would again account for the problems you are having. If the radiator is ok ask the garage to check and /or replace the top and bottom hoses from the radiator. Did you have the head bolts re-torqued after 1,000 miles? They should have told you this, get it checked. As a last resort try getting the gauge tested, it’s unusual, but it can go wrong. I doubt the thermostat is faulty; it would overheat all the time if this was so.
